Thermal imaging warrants?
Hi all I was thinking about growing a plant or 2 indoors sometimes soon, maybe building an enclosed box or something for it, but I read an article that sort of has me worried recently.
http://www.newsobserver.com/news/wak...-8892387c.html
WTF is this Thermal Imaging?? They did it because the power company noticed a huge spike in the electricity usage. Would grow lights for 1 or 2 plants cause that much of a spike in my light bill?

The article said the home was consuming 4,558 kilowatt hours per month. That's a HUGE amount of energy for a residence. For just a few plants you won't need anything larger than, say, 1000 watts of HPS lighting, and that works out to a mere 360 kWh per month extra on 12/12. No one's going to notice that. A large window air conditioner uses roughly the same amount under normal conditions.

360 a month would be a pretty big spike considering my current usage. I live in an apartment so my bill is pretty low. Last month was one of the hottest in 10 years and I only used 900kwh. Average is about 600.
Then again I suppose it would still be enough to keep me under the radar. It sucks about those guys being busted. I'm pretty sure some of the guys I get from went to those guys considering the current dry spell for good bud in town right now.

Man shit like this needs to be moved to the Paranoia Forum.
Talk about a buzz kill...
Now my buzz mind you is too strong to go away so now I am a paranoid fuck.
I am OUTTA HERE :)
HAPPY SLEEPING AND WAKING :)

If you only want to grow a couple plants, you can get away with as little as 400 watts, which would be only 144 kWh per month on 12/12. You may have less yield and/or a longer grow before you can harvest, but it's doable.

what about those eco-friendly lights that give out double the energy than the actual bulb, would they be more ideal for growin the plants with as i'm guessing it will use less electric?

There's no such thing - energy in cannot be greater than energy out. What you mean are the sort of bulbs that emit more light per unit of electrical energy consumed. Fluorescent bulbs, for instance, are about 3 times more efficient at producing light than incandescent lamps. HPS lights are already pretty efficient, as are all HID lamps. None of this changes the total power draw as listed on the bulb, though, and that's the figure you are concerned with here. If you are using, say 100 watts of incandescent lights and you switch to 100 watts of fluorescent lighting, you'll STILL be consuming 100 watts of power, even though you will be creating more light.

i got a 1000 watt blub and 4 babies growing can that be detcted i live in my own house in the country....

............
If you added a computer it would burn as much elec. as your light..so who knows if you added a computer or not.

i ,mean i got 11 and a 1000 watta bulb can they detct that

Actually I think you got that backwards.
No energy can produce more energy than the level started with.
Energy Produced cannot be in greater volume than the energy required to create it.
In other words, if we could create this syndrome, a car would be able to start itself and then produce more energy than it consumed and thus we would never have to fill the tank again :)
Wht is the name of this law of physics? I believe it was Einstein that described this as the theory of relativity.
Now there is scant speculation that Nicoli Tesla broke thru this law of physics with the Tesla Coil that resulted in the russian explosion that wiped out 10,000,000 trees Siberia in an instant....
But the governements wont admit to it.
Please correct me if I am wrong...
but I'm not :D

I have 4 Tesla Coil cfl's. They put out 10 googal lumens with no heat.

The Law of Conservation of Energy - nothing to do with Einstein, it was known since the 19th century, well before Relativity, which was published in 1915. And yes, you're correct; I had it reversed "in" and "out" in my post above.

Oh and the Tunguska blast of 1908, which you refer to above was proven sometime in the late '80s or early '90s to have been the result of a small asteroid or large meteorite which detonated some 1000 feet above the ground in a sparsely populated region of Siberia. The resultant blast flattened the trees within a 13 mile radius from the center of the blast, and was heard thousands of miles away.

hello there,
hey listen what to do in order to feel safer using when using your grow lights.....
a:replace all household bulbs with economy ones.....there are many models and types and prices....they cost more than normal 100watt incadescent bulbs but they produce the same amount of light using only 20-27watts.....
b:use your computer less hours a day and try to use it's power saving features when you're not in front of it.....switch off monitors as well when you're not in front of it....
c:make a list with ALL electrical appliances in your house and try to identify and know clearly their wattage
d: in example.....if i had a microwave i would use less, if i had a toaster i would stop buttering my bread toasted in the morning, i would rather eat breakfast with UN-toasted bread....
e:last but nevertheless of great importance is to try to find out what is the maximum power your can draw from the power lines.....from what i have realised from my personal experience i have come to this rather interesting finding....my residence can draw up to 3,3KW'h....that translates into 3300 watt every second, every day....in other words i can use many different electrical appliances at the same time totaling to 3300 watts of power...what's your contract say about that?
Take care man, if i were you i would do all the above and still would use 2-3 400 watt HPS lights to keep the bills short....if you live in the US though were electricity comes cheap, then i don't think you need to worry about it man.....you will have to face other parameters of growing and maybe potential threats.....the electric bill is simply not a problem.....
anyways i have talked too long again, i hope i did not bore you or something......hehehehe
NGOS:)

Proven?
How?
Still no meteoric fragments have been found....
At least from what i have seen....
Yes I have heard that theory...but I didn;t know of it being proven to be of cosmic origin.
I still prefer the conspiracy theory of Westinghouse dicking over Tesla way back when and the blast was a Tesla Coil strike that....well you know how it goes....
Fun shit to talk about when stoned man...I luv it bettlejuice. Luv it.
Ooooooh and I got just a so so very special samplet just for you :) :) :)

1 400wattMh, 1 400wattHPS, four site aeroponic (nicely spaced), 3" net pots, double layered SCROG... inside a mirror walled box (6x6x8) AMAZING results if done correctly... and of course live your life as power efficiant as possible... but i ALWAYS thermally protect my gro spaces, and the exiting air...
also i am saving for a 3k watt solar power system :D
