We apologize for the downtime.
Ron
well you should be sorry
jk its ok
I must have missed it. Thanks for running the site though.
At least the database seems to be intact. When I saw the error message, I was afraid the worst had happened.
Hey at least it's back..I missed it though lol, I had to get news from other sites. This is usually my one stop site it has everything, but it's back now so I'm here again.
i swear it was only down for like an hour or so, damn time goes fast
DB is fine - and is backed up in various ways ... so at worst, only a part of day or so of data would likely ever be lost - and that's assuming a really bad crash, etc were to occur.
In this instance, the server never crashed, but rather ran out of memory (a problem we've been aware of for awhile; we've been restarting some processes daily manually - lately that step was skipped and thus what happened today; fixed now with a cron entry) and was unable to serve more requests; VB is setup to ignore requests about a certain load level to reduce the chance of DB corruption during server problems.
Ron
lol i missed it to i was at the movies seeing the dukes of hazard great movie!
You say it was a great movie - did you watch many of the TV episodes? There seem to be so many differences ... or did that not matter / make the movie better...
Ron
man ive seen a couple of the tv shows but its been a while it brought back som memories from when i was like 10 and watched it yea it was kinda like the show
some of the actors in the old show have told diehard fans to boycott this movie, b/c it is not tru to the original at all.
<<<pfewww>>> for a minute there i was about to have a cow!!!! that's ok...it was time for my toke anyhoo.
still luv ya'll ron and beeb. :D
i thought it was my computer. i was bout to get mad and smash it with a baseball bat. thank god it finally loaded or might be picking up computer pieces off the floor right now.
Thanks for gettin it up again for us.
I wa s ready to toss IE and get firefox cause I thought the prob was on my end.
firefox is better anyway
The server is going to be upgraded to 4 GIGs RAM in the very near future - that should greatly reduce problems and memory swapping - the board will be noticeably more responsive / faster once the upgrade is complete.
With that said, folks who haven't yet upgrade to cafe member status, please consider doing so - it's basically a donation of sorts that will help cover our operating costs that are rapidly increasing; VBulletin (the message board software) and related software (MySQL) uses a lot of computer resources requiring more hardware, software, and maintenance to keep it all working.
Another way folks can help is to let folks know about cannabis.com, including perspective advertisers; ads can be annoying, but they greatly help cover costs. Anyways, enough rambling on - thank you everyone who visits cann.com regularly :)
Ron
Ron as soon as I get back to work count on my upgrade, til then I can just be thankfull for this great site!!!
Thanks Ron
No, thank you. I truly appreciate all the hard work you put into keeping up this wonderful site. I will smoke this bowl as a toast to you and the rest of the crew running this place. The Internet just wouldn't be the same without it.Quote:

I can tell. The boards are smokin' fast, now!
Well, that was probably the weirdest coincidence I have ever personally experienced. Heh.
Not just that. Look at the post times. Right down to the minute. :D
Its ok i forgive you
The server was swapping memory before - even using a little swap will cause noticeable slowness, and if swap usage is high, that will often cause the available memory to spiral down to zero leading to an out of memory condition.
The banner ads on the boards are inserted via a script called over port 80 (web) - a quick hack that was easy to setup originally when performance didn't matter much, but now with higher loads it's causing noticeable latency - once the banner call part is changed, the boards will be even faster.

On an aside for the techies, VB has various obscure bugs and quirks related to using server-side-includes - PHP virtual doesn't behave the way one would expect in VB and thus PHP exec must be used instead; the original path should be restored following the exec even when using a full path to call it.
Ron
wow i ahve no idea wat any of that means but i hope you gettin all workin again! ;)
well that's pretty fuckin funny...i was wonderin the other day though...Quote:
