Killing Dogs, news to me (not graphic, sort of)
I didn't know people in the USA kill their own dogs when they get too ill to carry on, didn't think it would be legal, and i thought everybody had them put down at the vets, here you go, check this out. It was news to me that people actually do this...

Oh, i'm not on about the article at the top, as i couldn't be bothered to read it, but the replies from everyone else on the page :)
(ps, i'm not saying just Americans do it, but they are mainly from the US on the site, and not many people have real guns, with enough power to kill animals here (UK for those who don't know :))

I`ve put my pets down. I never had a problem doing it. It may sound cruel to some but I would rather do it than have a strager do it for money. Think about it. If you take it to a vet, your just paying them to kill your pet. I`ll probally get flamed for this but, what the hell. It won`t be the first time or the last I`m sure.

screw that, you have a different way of doing things,so what?
being a HUGE animal lover i could never relieve their suffering myself, but i have had one of my dogs put down and i was beside myself with grief.she had been in so much pain for so long.when they put her down they gave her a pain killer and she was like a puppy for 15 minutes before they put her to sleep.i have never cried so hard in my life, but we had a good game together and she passed with quietly in my arms in no pain after a good play.i miss her still.

YOU'VE KILLED YOUR OWN ANIMALS INSTEAD OF PAYING SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT FOR YOU?!?!?! YOU'RE FUCKING SICK! SICK-O!
Kidding. I agree with you 100%, though I'm a panzy and would be incapable of doing it without like having a lethal injection on hand. Shooting them would be too messy, and that seems like the only other painless option. Though I have a friend in the country who has shot his animals to end their suffering after they've gotten attacked by coyotes or trampled by livestock. (once for each)

I've just never heard of people putting their own pets down, just found it strange that people bust a cap in their dog to kill it, i thought lethal injection at the vets was what EVERYBODY did when their animal was ill as fuck...
But at least i'm a little bit wiser now ;)

thanx for bringing back fucked up memorys for all us former and current dog owners dude...putting down a beloved family member sucks ..there is no way around it IT SUCKS ..but sometimes its got to be done ...it dosnt matter how you do it as long as its quick and painless to the animal ..its always painful to the person who is stuck with this chore .i know when my times up i would rather be surounded by people who i love and to be some place familur preferably out doors ..i would never want my or my pets spirit left in some cold and lonely clinic

No problem amsterdam. I have never felt greif when putting any of my pets down. I feel they are better off than suffering. I`m just a country boy with country ways. We have (at least my kin folks have), done this for as long as we have had pets. Be it a dog, cat, horse, mule, cow or ect. Hell, my uncle will trim your cat if you ask him nicely. Just roll em up in a blanket where he won`t scratch you and hold on to his back legs and trim away. You know they trim hogs, horses, cows or whatever down on the farm. peace man.

Never done it, but i dont think theres anything wrong with it. The only way i could do it would be the lethal injection way, i could never shoot my dog. Ive never really had a dog i cared about soo much tho. Like the dog that just passed away a few months ago i had since i was like 3(lived with my grandma the whole time tho) but it was my dog, and when he got old(he was like 12-13?) and he couldnt even walk so my grandma took him to the vet and he died the first night he went there. My grandma cried and cried. But i was just unaffected. See its not just animals tho....like when my great grandma died. My grandma cried and cried(it was her mom) and i was just unaffected. I feel like when anyone or anything in my life dies, its just unaffecting. Like when anyone in my family dies i probably wont be that affected. When i was about 9 i remeber my grandpa died. I can remeber going back into the room(cuz he died at home cuz all he wanted was to be home when he died, so he had like a hospital room in his normal room) and he was just motionless. I didnt cry or anything. I didnt cry at the funeral. I would sometimes cry myself to sleep tho because of it. But that was more when i was like 9-10. I dont know, just doesnt seem to affect me....hmm

what vet
the one in the city that charges you hundreds of dollars.??
if u live on a pension you cant afford a vet,
everyone dont have the means to do that,
i dont,my cat was lucky i had the $20 to get him fixed,
i wouldnt shoot him,for anything
but,ive shot animals and 'put them down for their own good"
mostly mangy strays mean ass ,possible rabid ones too
west virginia even has wild dogs,
but ive had to end a few dogs life after being in accidents, and suffering
and one was so old he was in pian just laying there, moaning,
yes i shot him to end his pain ,he was my pal and it was not easy to do
id rather shoot you than him.,,,,,,,,,,,,
cruelty to animals in my view can get me to be mean to you
especially when some asshole doing it for SADISTIC THRILLS
but at times things look cruel but aint, they are just nessecary
peace

i kinda agree and kinda dont....i dont know which would be more painfull lethal injection or being shot? but given the choice i would prefere to put it down myself....either way im never going to have the choice...but i figuire you have the responsibility to end endless pain...lol i dont think that made sense but...yeh animals are cool
did you guys read this....its quite sad....makes me not want a dog

I wasn't saying it's wrong NowhereMan i just mean i didn't know it was done, also i didn't get te part in your post where you said you'd rather shoot me than him, sorry, just didn't get it lol, but yeah, i understand where you're coming from, as lethal injection is a slow death, whereas a bullet to the brain is instant, and you can be there when it happens, rather than watching your best friend slowly shut down and slip away.

i'm the way penguin, but it's more because they're going into the great mystery of afterlife, maybe they've got it better, maybe they've got it worse, either way passing on is a natural part of life,if we all say marijuana should be leagalized be cause it is a free growing natural plant why should we be scared of something as natural as death?it's going to happen wether i'm 20 or 159 but to be honest,i'd rather it happen at 159 ;) why go into the unknown while your still exploreing the unknowns of life

People used to put down their own pets a lot; not so much any more. The vets make it east, maybe too easy. I always think of the movie Old Yeller.
Once a girlfriend asked me to shoot her cat. I felt she was just trying to save the odd $40.00, and examined the cat myself and determined it didn't deserve being shot. Paid half the vet's bill (to have the cat tended to, not put down), and re-evaluated the relationship with the girl. I figured, if she'd have me shoot the cat just because she wasn't willing to care for it, what if I got a cold or something?

couple bags of smack and a clean point will put any small critter down fast and painless..not as messy either but if you are out side the city in an area that you can still discharge a firearm with out the gestapo swooping down on your house then a bullet is just as good

I have mixed feelings abou this, being a major animal lover & pet-parent. Suppose some people cannot afford to pay the vet to put the animal to sleep, & it seems more humane than the animal suffer. I had a friend who was a vet intern & saw people who were so afraid to let the animals go that they had them kept alive (barely) by artificial means... that to me is much worse.
As for my animals, they all get very anxious & scared when it's vet time, so I'd prefer they just passed all comfy at home. My vet intern friend told me that when the time came, she'd come over with the necessary things (not a gun, but the injection or whatnot) & help me out. She's married & moved away now though, so she doesn't keep in touch. But ideally, that's the sort of thing I would want for my babies when they are too old & sick to enjoy their happy lives.
Ugh, this has made me sad. :(

One of my cats is sitting on my lap reading this, well she's looking at the screen... I can't imagine either of my cats, or either of my sister's rabbits dying, it will suck
I had a rabbit and guinea pig before my cats and new rabbits, and when the rabbit died i was sad, but it was a long time ago so i don't know how i felt exactly. I wasn't really attatched to the guinea pig (he was called sweep, and the rabbit was called sooty as he was all white, apart from a black nose, and like sooty and sweep the tv programme lol, oh back to sweep) and when he died i said to my mum "you bought food for him yesterday, what a waste of money." I felt so bad afterwards for saying that lol

Me and others in my family found a family of ducks and 6 ducklings wandering around our road.. so we took them to the woods where they must have come from (about 1.5 miles away, so a fucking long way for newborn ducklings to walk, slowly) and all of them swan onto the pond and to the other side, leaving one behind which wouldn't/couldn't swim. I felt bad for it as it's mother didn't even look back at it, and just swam off, so we took it home, and it stayed in a cardboard box, with soft bedding for it (open top box as it couldn't get out) and it was dead by morning, so we buried it next to our rabbit and guinea pig (sooty and sweep)
The rabbits we have now are called Scampy (boy) and Daisy (girl) and our cats are called Monty (Montgomery, like Mr. Burns and he's a boy) and Tilly (Matilda, girl who's on my lap now) they are all so cool:)
