Camping trip ... + mushrooms?

Camping trip....

Ok, I'm planing a solo camping trip for 5 days in the catskills. Its kind of a soul searching/relaxing/blazing deal and I really want to make the most out of it. As is I'm planning on buying an ounce of weed, and probobly a new bong, as well as having my bowl, LOTS of rolling papers, and some blunts. I am just going to play it by ear as to when/how much to smoke while there, but I want to be prepared for the worst (or best) hence the ounce.

... This all got me thinking though, maybe I should give shrooms a shot on the trip. I've never shroomed and lack any tripping experience, although before the trip I plan on smoking salvia. I've yet to shroom primarily because of lack of enviroment. Parents ruin the time while I'm at home, and many friends at school have said school is a bad place to trip. Nature seems like an ideal setting, and with little responsibility (only responsibility is my own basic needs... food clothing shelter) this seemed like it might be a great time/place to shroom.

However I have some concerns...

1. I am alone, if the trip goes bad its just me working through it...
2. I am alone, for 5 days, if I decide to shroom, I may be entering the trip with possible issue of a pretty intense feeling of isolation which could be exaggerated by shrooming alone...
3. I have two campgrounds in mind they are about 8 miles apart. I obviously don't want to drive while tripping, and for convenience/food/etc I want to shroom at the camp ground I am staying at. The two camps are vastly different, one is really roughing it, without shower facilities, only 8 camp sites, a small lake and trails for "experienced hikers only." The other is a rather hoginized campground with lots of facilities boat rentals, 300+ campsites, easy hiking trails etc. I would much rather stay at the "roughing it" site, but it seems so much safer tripping in the homoginized area, especially for the hiking.

Anyways... those are my main concerns. Even if I decide to bring them... if I'm not feeling mentally sound when the time arises, I won't take them, and I think I have a pretty good handle on my mental health (well maybe good barometer, I can't always fix my problems but I know when they are there.) Also, I'm a bit of a loner anyways... so I'm not sure the isolation thing will neccessarily be a problem, just a possible concern. Also I was planning on doing them during the day, so the night time dangers are reduced.

Also, one possible train of though was to get an 1/8 and eat 1 gram the first full day. That way to have hopefully a mild trip, and figure out my tolerance to the active agents. Then if my mild trip was indeed mild, and positive, eat the rest a few days later, if the mild trip was not mild, then I've figured out my tolerance, and hopefully it went well, if not, at least I didn't eat the whole 1/8.

So I guess I'm asking, what is a good starting dosage. I assumed around a gram would be good based on erowid, but wanted to ask people with experience.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on journaling the whole camping trip, so if I do indeed shroom and am coherent enough, I will journal it.

i never minded trippin alone and being in the woods i am much more at home and at ease than in the city but if you are a person who derives security from being around others and close to civalization than maybe try and find some others in camp to dose with there should be plaenty of others on the woods hikin and campin this time of year some people just feel safer around others when dosing so if thats the case then im sure you'll have no prob finding a young lady to dose with while hking enjoy the trip dude and let us all know it went when ya'll get back btw 1-1 1/2 grams should be ok to start

Thanks jim, I never considered finding people up there to shroom with. I'm not a very trusting person, so I'm not sure if that would be any better being that its a relative stranger, but I'll keep that in mind. Also, the nature of the journey is to search as inwards as possible. Only hear my own voice for 5 days. Meeting up with someone would be having outside influences. I'm not self obsessed and love to listen to people, but this trip is about a journey within myself.

Also, like I said, I'm a bit of a loner anyways, and I imagine myself having a better trip if I can be alone, I'm just a little concerned about my physical safety (ie doing stupid shit like climbing difficult terrain, driving etc) while tripping, and the not remembering that I'm tripping (although from what I've read this doesn't seem very common while using shrooms). To me nature is very safe, people aren't. I'd much rather run into a bear in the wild than get a speeding ticket, thats just the way my mind works, so nature is definately the right setting for me.

Tripping alone is only a problem if you have a problem with it, you'll probably be just fine

Well I guess that about settles it. Any tips on downing these guys? I can't stand food mushrooms, I can only imagine how awful these are gonna taste. I was thinking about grinding them up and just putting it in a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich.

Yeah that would probably be best. All my life I didn't like regular edible mushrooms either, until after one shroom trip (which I took alone by the way) that was totally ecstatic. Then for breakfast the next morning I had leftover spaghetti with mushroom sauce, and the shrooms were delicious. Now I eat pizza with mushrooms on it too.

Have fun man.. and be high and trip and all that good shit.

Just did some quick math. The trip itself is going to cost me around $75 bucks with a drug tab of over $200. :D

Again thanks for the help, I'll be sure to post my experience afterwords. The trips isn't for another couple weeks, but I figured I should start thinking about securing some shrooms now if I wanted them for the trip.

I don't think camping/hiking alone is very safe. What if you trip and fall and end up hurting yourself? You should always have someone with you when you decide to go hiking/camping for a prolonged time.

HAHA, I'm worried about my saftey while shrooming this guy is worried about my well being in the wild. I'll be fine with the outdoors, I've done that routine before. I've been going on hikes alone in the wilderness alone ever since grade school. I just haven't done a 5 day solo camp yet. Going with someone else would defeat the purpose. Also, I'm going to a camp site, not a random location, even if I were in trouble people/help won't be far away.

Of coarse my next adventure will be out in the wilderness on a backpacking expedition probobly thorough the upstate New York, with NO connections to the outside world (aka campsite).

All things considered this is still a pretty down to earth trip, nothing to get bent out of shape over.

hey if your coming to upstate new york come to my place in buffalo. i would love to go on a camping trip, im going on one myself with 3 of my friends to a beach near dunkirk its desserted at night. im gonna camp there on friday the 29th. hit me back if you want to line something up.

I wouldn't be too worried about doing something really stupid on shrooms. Personally I don't think I could handle what your planning especially not once it got dark, but it sounds like a good thing to do with a small group of friends.

I think natural settings are ideal for using mushrooms, especially if you're alone or with only one or two close friends. I don't think I'd really recommend it if you've never tripped before, though, since you don't know for sure how well you'll respond to the dissociated counsciousness induced by hallucinogens. I'd say get some experience somewhere where you can easily access the comforts you're used to before tripping alone in the wilderness.

Well, I've still got a about a week or two before I go, haven't made reservations yet (if they will even be neccessary). As it turns out I should have alot of left over salvia as well, so depending on how that goes (sometime this week I should smoke it) I may smoke more during my camping. I'm trying to secure a digital camera for the trip so I can share with all the online folk, but I may just have to use regular old 35 mm.

My best shroom trips have all been outside in nature. My all time best shroom trip was when me and a friend split a 1/4 for breakfast after spending the night on top of a 10,000' peak near Lake Tahoe. I was a bit aprehensive since we still had to get down off the mountain but it turned out fine. We didn't do any stupid shit because we were shrooming and everything just seemed to come naturally. We were both very experienced rock climbers/mountainers, however, so it wasn't like we were doing anything that we hadn't done many times in the past. Just this time on shrooms.

My recomendation would be to try to find somewhere with good views and not a lot of other people. Also, do them early in the day instead of night so you can enjoy the scenery and if you do happen to wonder off and get lost you'll have plenty of daylight to find your way back after you've stopped shroomin. If it starts to get weird just tell yourself everything will be cool in a while-it always will be. Most of all, have fun man, I wish I was doing it.

have a spitual journy, do the shooms in the wood it'll be wicked i can tell u that now. sure u might have a bad trip in parts but i wont al be bet most of it will be nice. youv got a wicked oppertunity to have a good trip
