When im smoking my pipe i never really know when all the bud has burnt and im worried that i might be wasting a bit of it. Are there any ways to tell that its all gone because i sometimes find that there is a tiny bit of green inside a chard bud at the bottom of the bowl when i empty it out. Also, should i occasionally poke the bud with a stick after a couple of tokes to make sure that the bud at the bottom of the bowl is also getting lit?

It's out when all you taste is the gas from the lighter. Or when you put your finger on the stuff in the bowl, and it flattens easily under your finger.
i just declare the bowl dead when it starts tasting like shit...
Just posted this in another thread, but blow across the top, it will knock out the the ash on top. You are done when the bowl is empty, or when you are sick of smoking. If it is really bad tasting though, I would probobly dump the bowl. No sense smoking a bowl if you can't enjoy it.
i agree completely. I always ash the top of mine. Also have a ash tray for half smoked bowls. Cuz sometimes i get real sticky wet shit. I will smoke the whole bowl only to flip it over and still find another half burnt chard bowl. Put it into the ash tray, and ta-da something for when you got no bud :D.Quote:

wow u guys are great im sittin high here reading and just wanted to say that ive just went throught the same shit not jknowing if thw bowl is cashed or not.
i blow across the top of the bowl and it knocks the loose and useless (burnt) out.
When my nice green bud is reduced to grey shit that doesnt burn then and only then is the bowl truely done.
If you heat it for long and dont' get to chong the bud is all gone.

i've always used a poker to stir my bowls so i've never had the problem,but i lost my favorite poker i've had since i started smokeing so i haven't been able to stir them lately,i'll make a new poker eventualy,but that one was so perfectly shaped and contured i miss it :(
I use a paperclip for a poker. If you've got mad poking skillz and you don't see green and the bowl is tasting like shit, it's officially dead.
pust down on it when it looks like ash if black is under it hit it
when i can't see any smoke building up in the chamber it's done.
when you hold the lighter there for the entire toke and you still get no smoke
I always just usually dump the bowl in an ashtray when i think i'm done, and if there's still some green when i dump it I usually say somthing like, "Thought you could hide from me did ya?"
Then I put the green back in and one-hit that shit.
