What are the pros/cons to using a bubbler system compared to other systems?
I'm using a drip system and it rocks. the roots hang down in the water like a bubbler. I think I'll get some air stones to help out. Have not tried just a bubbler yet. If you do I saw some say go for the glass air stone things you can clean them out, stone I don't think you can. Do a search and read that's what i did. You can make them real cheap. Lights are what cost !
pros/self contained unit, properly maintained can produce high yields,
cons/must change out nutes every 7-10 days...if you have a few, this can be labor intensive...drains and filler tubes could be fabricated...problems can arise really fast
I use these and haven't had any big problems, but I have followed very closely the ph, the ppm, the color of the roots, and the water level, also the plants will tell you right away...when I first started and would add a new batch of nutes, if the ph was off the plants would twist around just like all the pictures,then settle after awhile...IMHO

A common problem with DWC is root rot because of high water temps. Rez temps should be between 19 and 23 degrees celcius, and also ambient temps and rez temps shouldnt exceed more than a ten degree difference, strange things will happen.
Although I always suffered root rot with DWC, even in winter, I still yield out ok.
I think DWC is suited to colder climates or you will be buying air con units and water chillers just to maintain temps.
I now have a drip system which can handle higher temps no probs. DWC just isnt good for my area.
root rot and High temps are not the fault of DWC it is the growers fault, and if you use plenty of airstones and something like sensizyme, hydroguard or any of the other products out there for "a happy res" you won't get root rot...if you get root rot in the winter when you are not battling high temps then "You" are doing something wrong,..sorry, peaceQuote:

Sorry mate, but even with the additives you still get root rot in higher temps. As I mentuioned I still yield out quite a bit, but root rot is the most common thing associated with DWC and is why people seek different methods later on.
I tried DWC for its low cost. I wont say ease, coz no Hydro is "easy" (easy to me is not carrying a bucket of water) Hey It works fine for people in colder climates, and even where I am, but I just dont like root rot and my recirculating system is still the best way to go where I live.
I have only doen DWC for a short time, I had to add "additives", In 20 years of growing Ive never had to add anything apart from Nutrients.

Australian Sativa grown in DWC with root rot at the end of flowering.
