So, I bought a pack of 5 metal screens for $1. I sometimes get pissed when bud flies down into the water, and it's a bitch to clean that bowl every five minutes. I noticed first that the bowl is getting really quite resinous, and i'm not smoking as large a bowl.
1.) Will these screen fuck up my lungs w/ fumes?
2.) What's the best way to get screen stuffed into a bowl?

... Your using a screen with a bong?!?!?! I suppose if you really wanted to you could, but you see all that water... that works as a big wet screen. Don't have to worry about the fumes they are safe... I don't use screens, don't like the taste, so I can't help you with the technique part.
Yeah, no point for that screen. Use them on a pipe that likes to shit in your mouth all the time.

screens are just a defense used (usually) for protecting your throat from hot ash flyin in that STINGS!!! i only use screens on metal pipes, never used one on a bong or bubbler though =\ fumes arnt a worry they are designed to be heated intensly and usually brass or steel, dont use aluminum or tin...that shit can give you brain tumors and all sorts of shit =X best way to eliminate that taste is to find a screen that some old buddy used for awhile, burn the resin off and use that, all the taste is usually burnt out after a dozen or so bowls :)
It's not a problem if you put big chunks of weed in your pipe.
it can be =\ even fatty nugs will crumble to fine ash if your using a torch lighter or just taking good old fashion gigantic hits and burnin the fuck out of it, i seen nugs burst into dust and fly down ppls throats - that my friends, is true entertainment :D i havnt used metal pipes with any regularity for awhile, i have my little chamber piece for takin on trips as a cheap pipe i can chuck if i need to but if i have my choice its glass :D always...and forever glass :D theres no reason to use a screen on glass (most especially a bong) piece if its even decent the hole in the bowl wont be all that big
My pipes stem divides in to two in the middle and then comes back together and it does a pretty efficient job of catching that fucking ash.
I was doing it so that good weed doesn't get sucked down the stem and into the water, as has happened on several occasions. Y'know, i'll be hitting it and it just slides through. The screen acts as a protective device. Makes sense to me, at least.
well just learn to pack ya bong like a pro :D the way the bowl is packed has a big effect on the way it smokes, if the hole is big and your afraid of pieces slipping through just make sure you put a real solid nug in the bottom and press it down firmly, then put the looser stuff on top and viola :D
Just shape them around an object like a fat pen or whatever is the width of your bowl, then just drop it in. I would suggest heating them vigourously for a min or so just to get rid of the worst of the taste.
OMG dude one of my retarded friends dumps the ash out and out goes the screen and he loses it. So we look for a good 30 min with our cell phones (it was pitch black out) but couldnt find it so im like fuck it. So the same friends packs a bowl and takes a hit and huge chunks of bud literaly on fire go into the pipe and into his mouth it was the funniest thing ever!Quote:

no it will not harm you, they are usually made out of brass (gold color) mesh type shit...and best way is just the obvious, set it ontop and push it down with your finger. the downfall, towards the end of the bowl you tend to taste the metal quite a bit and it adds to the already bad taste of charcoal tasting shit (i'm wasteful so i usually dump it at this point)
I never seem to be able to taste the screens.
Always use them for pipes.
I cracked the bowl of my pipe when I was stoned as fuck, so I gotta use a metal screen untill I buy a new piece. I don't even notice the screen (such as taste ect).
well i can't taste them..until it actually starts getting down to the screen...
oh yea..this is with old screens new ones i never taste...but old ones seem to accumulate bad taste very well.

Those little fuckers just wind up all over the place. I swear, i'll buy a pack of 'em, then, not two or three days later - while i'm still using the first one - I can't find my screens. I usually don't give a fuck, because they cost 20 cents, but it pisses me off nonetheless!!!
I epoxied a sink screen to my bowl. Epoxy doesn't let off dangerous chemicals when heated, so it's best to use it.
You can smoke with a screen if you want to.
While back I used screens a lot because the herb was ground so finely and it was kind of necessary. Haven't really thought about it since getting a vaporizer and learning to hand-roll joints. I guess you get accustomed to remembering the screen is in the ashed bowl and not just dumping everything out wildly on the ground in the dark. I usually smoke inside with bongs so toothpicks and screens are handy.
stop smoking dirt weed out of metal pipes, start smoking quality dank out of quality glass and avoid metal screens all together, a glass screen is good if you are losing large amounts of nugget in the water.
