Warning Young People the Army is out to get you

you need to know that the Army is busily exploiting a provision in the No Child Left Behind law that allows recruiters to go into public schools receiving federal funding, gain access to students' personal data and cultivate potential recruits with a virtually unfettered hand. According to an Army manual, savvy recruiters should eat in the school cafeteria, befriend administrators, bring coffee and donuts for teachers and buddy up to team captains and student body presidents to win the hearts and minds of other students.

In Colorado, a high school student, David McSwane, who wanted to see "how far the Army would go during a war to get one more soldier," told recruiters that he didn't finish high school and that he had a drug problem. "No problem," the recruiters responded

In Ohio, two recruiters signed up a 21-one-year-old man with bipolar disorder who had just been released from a psychiatric ward.

In Houston, one recruiter warned a potential recruit that if he backed out of a meeting, "we'll have a warrant" for the potential recruit's arrest.

The Army is also accepting into its ranks a greater number of high school dropouts and lower-scoring applicants as well.

Then there's NASCAR. Our US military is spending millions of dollars a year recruiting young men at NASCAR races.

OK, but it still is a volunteer army. They don't have to sign the paper if they don't want to.

Anyone who is released from a mental institution is supposedly cured enough to be in society, so they are fair game for recruitment in my opinion.

Recruit people at NASCAR races? Why not! Its a place where a recruiter might expect to find some willing patriotic young men! Bad taste in entertainment, maybe, but still patriotic!

As for the guy with a record, well he would not be in that predicament if he had not commited a crime. Its better to be offered that choice, than to just go straight to jail like you normally would.

Is it that bad that low scoring high school droputs are recruited? They have nowhere else to go, let them actually do something with thier life instead of becoming the trash in the ghettos and trailer parks.

Thats the problem with you liberals, you don't want a draft, yet you also don't want anyone to be recruited into the military. I'm sure if y'all had your way, we would have an incredibly weak ass military and like 70% taxes on the rich, and a free ride to any scumbag who doesn't feel like actually working to get ahead in life.

Yea, .. I see the recruiters all the time. Im actually going to Join the Army after my last year of high school. But Im NOT doing it for the president, nor am I going to kill any women or children. Im doing it for myself, because I want to have some financial stability. I mean I can go in for 3 years, and come out with 45,000 to start payments on a house, buy a car, (start my dream grow operation, lol). I hate having to go into a job where i am targeting the "enemy" to do this but i dont think theres any other way i can bank money like that.

Yeah, they do pay you pretty good, since you have a free ride for the whole time you are there, no need for a car, any bills, anything. Also, there are plenty of non-combat roles to fill, its not like its mandatory to be a foot soldier.

But, adicts77, you should consider the air force, they not only pay more, but they give you better skills and training, and also have the best (air conditioned) accomodations. Definately the cushiest branch from what I hear.

Everytime a Recuiter calls me, I always say, Sorry I am furthering my studies at college also, I'm a liberal. They pretty much just hang up after that.

One thing to say that always works is "sorry, I have 2 felonies on my record". thats a big no-no for the army.

yea, I was thinking on air force but I mean if you go to the website right on the first page it says its overcrowded. Dont know if theyd still be recruiting.

The air force doesnt need peopel as bad, but if you sign up, you can get on the waiting list. I actually went and got on it, but ended up backing out after a month. IT would have been a little over a year. If you just tell them you'll do anything, i'm sure they would get you in quick, but i would not reccomend that.

much as I don't like war, we have none on our home turf because of our standing army. Some people live better when they have someone hanging over them telling them exactly what to do when and how...those folks have a place to go. And god bless them, it is a job I could not do.

I think the draft is a comin and I have a horrible feeling that it will be any gender goes at that point. If that is the case I hate to say it but I would leave this country. I could fight for a war I believe in , but definitely not this war where I was lied to and where we destroyed so many innocent men, women and children for the mere sake of oil and a grudge. Iran is next on the platter for ol bush and you better believe if we are 40 percent under out quote for the month of recruitment now that the draft will definitely be reinstated and we can all kiss our sorry asses goodbye. But godbless the men and women doing what I never could. The saddest thing is whether or not these people really know what their president has done to them they are still fighting over there for US and that president. Thats some sort of hero right there.

oh and the other thing is ( i was listening to this on airamerica the other day) people who are signing on to go in the army,navy etc are being told that at max their stay in iraq will on be 18 months but what they are not told is that once you are in there is a stop going on that prohibits any soldiers from being honorably discharged unless wounded or sadly, killed. They are hurting for people so badly as well that recruiters are getting high school graduates into their offices and then LYING for them, etc, telling them that they can get them a diploma from another county so that they can fill their quote for said county and then also telling them how to pass drug tests etc....our government is so shady sometimes it is unbelievable. I cannot believe this president has not been impeached yet. I mean hell clinton was almost impeached for lying about a blow job and this man lied to us and sent us to WAR and killed our sons and daughters. and whats even worse is a week before 9/11 was given an urgent memo regarding the threat on us soil from al queda and richard clark even requested an urgent meeting w/ him to discuss this and he did NOTHING. He is partly responsible I say for the thousands of men and women killed that day and for the countless others that have died going to war for him.

I was thinking about joining the army reserve 4 years ago.I lived right near the barracks when i was in Melbourne and wanted to do a worthwile job to help our country and help indigenous Australians.I went two two interviews and went to alot of seminars there to see the details i was interested.They wanted to train a medic and send them to a country town and study two nights a week and work weekends in remote rural areas and overseas to places like timor back then to look after the locals and help with there needs.I did not do it as my sons father didnt want me to he was very upset about the whole thing he didnt feel the same way as me.Anyways i wish so much that i did not listen to and i wish i did join back then.

My dad was a recruiter and he told me they have to let gay people join the army.....they however are not allowed to ask the person if they are...the no ask no tell policy.

I would also like to add,that many join,because they are actually grateful for the many blessings that they enjoy and cherish,and want to give back to their country.

Freedom is never given freely,except from the hands of the liberators of the oppressed..but it's a dear price,that must always be paid in blood..because some Humans will always seek to oppress others,in their quest for power and wealth. The highest form of citizenry,according to the Founding Fathers,is that of the citizen/soldier.

I like the Israeli and Swiss models for service to one's country,the Israeli's have mandatory military service and civil defense participation,the Swiss have mandatory civil defense/militia duty.

Blue Cat is represenative of those who expect Freedom to be handed to her on a silver platter,it must be very confusing to her son,who does realize that Freedom ain't free..and has chosen to serve his country.

I usually tell them I'm a practicing buddhist and pacifist, and that to kill another is for me to die. Typically, they don't have the energy to argue all that.

My problem is not with the recruiting, but the method of doing so. Don't accost people in a 7-11 parking lot and ask them if they've ever considered a career in the military. Clearly and plainly advertise the benefits of a military career without verbal or physical badgering and abuse, and you're likely to get all the recruits you need.

The fact is that our "volunteer army" is gradually becoming a "last chance" army. I'm sure there's plenty of intelligent, sound-minded individuals who would fight for the "good cause", they're just pushed away by the negative connotations "recruiters" bring.

Bluecat, the military is nothing you should hide from. Like Hydrizzle said, you still need to sign those papers before they have you. It really bothers me when i read posts like this. Use your head when dealing with recruiters dont be a douchebag and think they will give you the job you want...recruiters are always trying to recruit for MOS's that the army is short on and they will try to persuade you towards those careers. Know what you want to do and make them give you the job you want. Do research into the field you want, know what GT score that job requires etc. Just use your head.

First I spent 4 years in the Army, I spent just under a year in Iraq and just got out in early 2004.

First, I spent time in several mental hospitals as a teenager, "parents". I joined the Army later in my life and it is a JOKE! Does anyone want to know what the US Army is really like?
