SHIT! I don't know but can I get a cookie anyways for being awesome?
will you quit krazie? lol Quit stalking me
that wound probably depend on the size of your grow room
My room would not be a deciding factor on how hot the "bulb" gets but how hot the room gets. I'm trying to find out how hot a 400watt HPS bulb gets not the room it's in. Sorry for any confusion.
too fuckin hot?, 8x3x1= 24 cubic feet ,24cfm fan will remove all the air in your room in a min thus cfm (cubic feet per minute)i think thats right lol.
but i would look at some air cooled hoods if it was me,thats not alota room for a 400w
just do some tests before any plants are in there,high/low thermometers record your high temp for the day till you reset them.thier nice to have.
test before you fry , cuz i learnt the hard way:| good luck
Argggh -- you're making me think. It hurts, it hurts. You cruel bastard ...
A 100cfm fan will vent up to a 10'x10' room. So I gree with SyKo's numbers. Bulb temp, test with your tongue ... if it sticks, it's over 100 degrees.
Better to go a few CFM over than be under. Keep your ballast outside the grow area. I think I double up on the CFM to make sure it stays cool. You can use a regular bathroom fan which you can pick up for less than $15.00, along with some flex tube
ROFLMAO
Looked it up on the internet ...
(bulb watts / 4) x (ASVLS* - Lamp Clearance inches) = bulb temp at tip
*ASVLS = air speed velocity of laden swallow. Unfortunately there is a "y" factor in that we do not know for sure if we are timing an african or european swallow -- so results may vary some from reality and depending on headwinds
No, really, keep your lamp about a foot off the plants and keep the CFM's moving. I like to use a fan too. I like the leaves moving constantly as it prevents some burning that may occur from hot spots and such, and it strengthens the stalks to carry the heavy load
I say the bulb temp is about at least 600f at the very center or hotter. and on the second question the order should be length, width, hieght but you also didnt state wether it is in feet or meters or miles :-). if its feet then I would figure out how to grow your plants sideways because 1 foot isnt much. and if you use one of those fans that they use to create fake wind in movies I guarantee it will remove the heat.
ok wheres my cookie?
This is getting good......lol
To be more specific.....
8 Feet Length
3 Feet Wide
1.5 Feet Deep
Using 400watt HPS with remote ballast
How many CFM's to matain a temp of 70F to 80F?
Think...Think...Think!!! LOL
Did I mention it was a hash cookie?
1.5 feet hieght doesnt give much room for plants. are you using that for clones? ya figure you hps will take up about 8 inches of that hieght and then the pots you are planting in will take more so by the time you get any plants in there they will be burnt by the light. also you will need fresh air in for the fan to be effective at all. I would probably go for flourescent lighting to save space and produce less heat and the a pc fan would do for fresh air. if you were to put your fan on a thermostatic outlet then it will controll your temps just fine with a little fan and I cant tell you the cfm. besides in that small of a space you really dont need to worry about cfm I wouldnt think.
AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! !!
8 Feet TALL as in UP!!!
3 Feet Wide as in my ASS!!!
1.5 Feet Deep As in where my pecker attaches to my body to the point where it ends!!!
LMAO
8 Feet Length
3 Feet Wide
1.5 Feet Deep
thats what you put
to me length is different than hieght but depth is the same almost.
hieght explains how far up something goes and depth is how far down
damn dude sounds like youll just barely fit in there with a 3 foot ass and a 1.5 foot dick
hehe :-)
no but really just get fresh air in and stale air out
it doesnt need to be that powerfull in that small of a space
Man, I was just going to say he could always grow them sideways -- but I guess we've clarified that small point.
Thats some crazy shit. You must have a big pecker. Put a fan in the room which help.
You cannot and will not be able to answer this question without taking into consideration of a factor you have not revealed....Quote:

The temp of the air circulating is dependent upon the temp of the fresh air intake.
REGARDLESS OF THE SIZE OF THE GROW SPACE.
But, I did like that "stick your tongue on it...if it sticks it too hot....ROFLMAO :)
HAPPY TONGUE TASTING YOUR HPS TEMPERATURE !!!!:)
Now you guys all lost me....?
What was the question again?
roflmfao this is a fucking joke..... so did your tounge stick to the bulb?
man just hook the shit up then warry about lowering the temp if need be
check out this shit why would one even bother growing this for a few months lmao that will be a harvest of 1 gram
i found it somewhere in this site shocking grow on the year roflmfao
I'd smoke it:)Quote:

hehehe....
yep.
we are ALL stoned, arent we? :D
mount an extraction fan above your light, in the top directly behind light. turn your light on hold your hand under it. the distance it stops burning is the distance to keep it off the plants. get a big fucking fan it cant hurt. watch for noise if it has to be stealthy.
as far as exact temp. of the light take its temp. many of the sites you get if you google extraction fans will give you a formula or calculator to figure out the size of the fan you need for your size of room.
Actually the plasma arc inside the HPS can burn as hot as 2000 degrees F, the vessel the arc is in is made of polycrystalline alumina, or single crystal alumina aka sapphire, the arc tube is essentially buffered by the vacuum and bulb, keeping it from melting(made from vitreous glass in most cases) thats why they are so damned expensive.
As far as your space goes, get a bathroom exhaust fan ($20-30 bones); that will be enough, just make sure you have a way for air to get in too.
And yes I too am :stoned:
Hey, I have a bigger op than that now. I used a 300 cfm inline fan on my air cooled hood. This vents my room and also cools my bulb so I can get it as close as I can. You should always have a regular fan blowing right underneath the glass of your reflector. BTW, i grew my avatar (the pic beside my name) in this setup. I kept my bulb about 6 inches from the top of the canopy (eight with my 600w). As long as u can manage the temps get the light close! BTW, i got a really good deal on my inline fan at hvacquick.com. I did have to attach the power cord, but that's only 3 wires. Fantech FG-6 (unpainted) was 150 after shipping costs.
