Dear God my brother is dumb sometimes...

Well my brother is only a year younger than me, but very different. He doesn't do so well in school and he's a big stoner, and he hangs out with a lot of racist idiots that I dislike. But we've been getting along better for about a year now, and tonight we were smoking up together and having a pretty good time. Then he said something which freaked me the fuck out and reminded me just how fucking clueless he can be sometimes. The conversation went like this:

M= My brother S=Stedric

M: "Wanna hear something funny?"
S: "Sure..."
M: "Know who Olan is?"
S: "No...who?"
M: "He's some kid who lives around here, he got expelled from school for selling crystal meth."
S: "I see..."
M: "*laughs* Yeah, I saw him trying to break into our house with a crowbar on Friday."

He then proceeded to laugh about it, but stopped when he realized my face looked something like this " :eek: ". So he saw some speed freak trying to jimmy open our front door, and waits until 2 days later to tell me. To make matters worse, he tells it to me AS A FUCKING JOKE instead of something to be worried about.

Sometimes joking about something is a non-threatening way to divulge some info.
Anyone trying to break into my place would freak me out whether they were a meth head or not. Here, in Hawaii, we have a problem with smokable meth they call ice and it is a really ugly thing to witness.

Careful, they have to actually break in, or be leaving with your property with no reasonable chance of recovery for you to use lethal force (unless of course they pose a threat to your safety, like if he saw you and started running at you w.the crowbar).

It might hold up in court, the odds would be in your favor, but I wouldn't risk picking off a kid from the OUTSIDE, that is just attempting to break in, even in TX. (more research is in order here, because it's an interesting situation. If you enter your home, and someone has already broke in, they are game for sure, but this is a grey area I think).

the peoblem is irresponsible people DO have guns and if they dont they cant get them at any time(i've seen 9 y/o selling crackw/ a handgun on him on cops[the tv show that shows a cop on patrol answering calls for those not in the states)it makes you an irresponsible person by turning your back on the fact that they can and will get their hands on them if they want,its not an insult and im not saying your irresponsible in any other way,just that one.

The problem with it being easy to get guns is a black market thing. High demand plus lots of laws against it = ubiquitous black market, just like the black market for drugs came about.

The only solution is for eveyone to do their best to foster a healthy society, in whch people don't want to use guns or commit crimes. Since we don't have that, I'll be damned if I give up my only effective means of protection from the irresponsible fucked up members of our society. We cannot continue pointing our fingers at guns, or drugs, or foreigners or anything else commonly blamed, our society must grow up and point the finger at ourselves and learn we must change our own minds and hearts instead of trying to legislate our problems away. Since this ain't gonna happen on a large scale any time soon, you can pry my guns from my cold dead hands.

i dont want to take your guns just to keep people from going trigger happy,i'm with stedic i'm for gun control(instead of the american[or any other] government wasteing money fighting the "war on drugs"{wich just means the war on marijuana with a few other things so it LOOKS like we're doing something other than keeping people from smokeing pot}they should concentrate it on destroying the black market for guns and makeing it much harder to obtain them it wont stop the problem but nothing will,it will just control it alot better than letting 10 yearolds get their hands on guns[i'm watching cops right now and they just caught a 10 yo with a loaded .45 and two rocks of crack] )i think if someone who is responceable and just wants protection from some guy robing them should be able to own guns,acctualy there are some countries that only let you own a handgun if you need one(i.e doctor,lawyer,things that a client could come in and shoot you over some fuck up)i think that is how we should handle it,but that is unrealistic,but we could asleast control guns and amunition(makeing bullets much much more expensive[unless you have a permit to own and carry a gun]opr make them completly unavailable to anyone without the said permit.i know it is a inconveniance and i know the respectable person shouldn't have to go though that but sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the better of the world

i dont mean to make this an argument or hijack the thread but it's the most available time to state my beleifs and if you dont want to read it take a second to move your finger over the roller on your mouse or keyboard and skip it...

we should control guns, but making them more expensive and making them harder for legal users to get does not make us safer because people who buy on the black market don't follow those laws. That would only serve to disarm responsible people and allow the criminals to be armed. I agree that we should work to destroy the black market, by I also concede that it won't happen in our society until society matures. A vast majority of the guns used in crimes are black market guns, and most of the gun control laws don't do anything to stop this.

I'm definately willing to make sacrifices for the better of the world, but not ones that aren't going to do any good. I think the sacrifices that need to be made are those that involve a personal effort to uplift members our communities from poverty and ignorance. I wholeheartedly believe that most crime stems from poverty and the dehumanization that comes from being impoverished. I volunteer more hours than I work and spend more money on other people than my own education. I can see attitudes changing from violent to hopeful.

You cannot legislate the problem away with gun laws, you must create change in society, educate and uplift the poor, and work for a societal well being that reduces the need for violence.
