William Sink, his girlfriend Melissa Broughman and her two kids were hungry Thursday night and didn't want to cook.


"We decided to go up to little caesar's and get a pizza," Sink said.


They ordered two pepperoni pizzas and ate almost all of them before they realized... what sink says were some added toppings.


"I noticed it hat green looking flakes on the pepperoni pizza," Sink said. "That just ain't right. When asked why he didn't just assume the flakes were dried herbs, he said. "Well, it had little stems in it and then I smelt it and I knew it wasn't basil or any kind of oregano."


Sink suspected it was marijuana and called Vinton Police. An officer came out, tested the flakes, and sink was right? it was marijuana.


Police recommended the family go to the emergency room... which they did. Tests at Carilion's Community Hospital revealed all four suffered from marijuana poisoning... a medical term that means they were exposed to marijuana and had it in their systems.


Melissa and her oldest daughter say it made them nauseated... even making them throw-up.


"It's strange and it's a shame that you can't somewhere and eat and not know what you're getting," Sink said.


Now to the great mystery... how did the marijuana get on the pizza? Vinton Police want to know the answer and so does the owner of the Vinton's Little Caesar's franchise... who's not so sure it happened at his store.


"We take these complaints very seriously," said Pat Flanigan, who owns 19 area Little Caesar's restaurants around the area.


Flanigan says they get bogus complaints all the time... and he questions a discrepancy between Sink's story... that there was marijuana on the pizza and pizza box... and the police report that says the marijuana was only on the box.


"Probably every one of our stores at least once a week are hit with some sort of scam for free food, refund after they've eaten the pizza," Flanigan said.


Still, Flanigan says as a result of the complaint, he has ordered all employees at the Vinton Little Caesar's to undergo drug testing. Anyone who fails the test or refuses to take it will be terminated.


Meanwhile sink and Melissa say it's no scam... they just want to make sure that others are warned.


"The public needs to know to be careful," Sink said. He also says they will probably contact an attorney.


Police continue to investigate.

If the weed was on the box only,how could the family ingest enough to even show up on a drug test ? Doesn't the cop who wrote the report,realize that it was because the weed was on the pizza,that the family ingested it and it resulted in a positive test ? Or , does the cop believe that the family set aside the pizza,and consumed only the 'green flakes' ?

Also,doesn't it take more than just some 'flakes',to git high to the point of nausea ? I reckon that the mom and daughter,got sick because of their own hysterical reaction to the news that they had been 'poisoned'.

I don't think that anyone started throwing up,until they were told that they may have been 'poisoned' by the weed..it just don't seem like enuff weed to even git a feller high,to me.

That story does not make sense, the cop seems to be retarted they went to hospital and came up positive, but they are saying there was none on pizza, sounds fishy to me, it sounds like a made up story!!! Where did u find this story torog, and u copied and pasted it, i presume, right?? because the reporter or whoever wrote it had spelling errors, there was grammor errors in the story.

Yup,I copied and pasted this story..and I was concerned about the spelling and grammar too..but it seems that proofing a story,is no longer a requirement,before public submission these days..it seems that it has become acceptable.

The feller that wrote this story,is more than likely,a product of liberal Kalifornia public schools,where reading,writing and arithmetic,is not as important,as being politically-correct.

They doctors probobly induced vomiting so they wouldn't get high, but the article or possibly the people involved cleverly "editorialized" things so it made it sound like the weed made them throw up. I can't imagine anyone giving up weed just to play a joke on some unsuspecting family buying a pizza. I would say the chance they were trying to scam the restaraunt is pretty high. It wouldn't be hard to feed the kids weed ealier in the day without them knowing with some weed butter, so they would fail the test then bring some trees to the restaraunt and sprinkle it on the pizza.

who would go though that much trouble for a free pizza though?between feeding it to the kids and smokeing some/eating some for yourself the cost of the weed would be greater than the pizza.drug test have a minimum amount that is tested for,you can smoke a joint before your test and still pass,just not two :)

The author may have been liberal... or maybe he's just some old guy who's not so computer literate. Grammar is not mandatory on the internet, as proven with 1337 5p34k, talking "LyK dIs!", and people just making typos in general.

I guess not, lol. I don't have good grammer, but I am not a writer or journalist or anything, so when i read it, it seemed like a little kid wrote it w/ some of the sentences and grammer. But..... It is a pretty funny story, I can't belive it was on their pizza, but now they are investigating it, saying maybe it was a scam for free food, or they can sue, what does everyone think?? a scam or really happened. there could have been a pizza maker behind there having his kicks to see what happened, lol.

I say the family goes in the the back of the pizza restaurant and finds the guy, Stoner Andy, who spiked the pizza, buy a quarter ounce and go home and then the family can have a really good time together bonding!
