[align=left]New legislation currently making its way through the House of Representatives poses a grave threat. If passed, H.R. 1528 will force Americans to inform on their friends, family members, or neighbors within 24 hours of acquiring any knowledge about their involvement in drug-related activity, including marijuana.[/align]

[align=left]As is often the case with new federal violations of civil liberties, this bill is constructed to appear as though it is designed to protect children from drugs, but its implications are far more sinister:[/align]



[align=left]* Observe one student passing a joint to another, and you could fall under this law. You would be required to report the incident to authorities within 24 hours or risk prosecution and a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison.[/align]



[align=left]* If a neighbor under 21 mentions buying some marijuana for a party, you would be required to report him or her to the government or risk jail time yourself.[/align]



[align=left]* If your brothers or sisters have children and mention to you that they and their spouses sometimes smoke marijuana in their bedroom after their kids are asleep, you would be required to immediately inform on them or face prison time.[/align]



[align=left]You can see what a threatening new environment this proposed legislation would create for everyone. It would erect barriers of paranoia between friends, family members, and neighbors and is rife with potential for police abuse, extortion, and the creation of false informants.[/align]

[align=left]P.S. H.R. 1528 is supposedly designed to protect children â?? but the bill is actually anti-family. It expands mandatory minimum sentencing and increases the ways those minimum sentences could kick in. It's absolutely draconian.[/align]

SEC. 11. LIFE IMPRISONMENT WITHOUT RELEASE FOR DRUG FELONS AND VIOLENT CRIMINALS CONVICTED A THIRD TIME.

Section 401(b) of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 841(b)) is amended--

(1) by striking `or 420';

(2) by inserting `420, 424, 425, or 426' after `419,'; and

(3) by striking `If any person commits a violation of this subparagraph or of section 418, 419, or 420 after two or more prior convictions for a felony drug offense have become final, such person shall be sentenced to a mandatory term of life imprisonment without release and fined in accordance with the preceding sentence.' and inserting `If any person commits a violation of this subparagraph or of section 409, 416, 417, 418, 419, 420, 422, 424, 425, or 426 or a crime of violence after 2 or more prior convictions for a felony drug offense or crime of violence or for any combination thereof have become final, such person shall be sentenced to not less than a mandatory term of life imprisonment without release and fined in accordance with the preceding sentence. For purposes of this subparagraph, the term `crime of violence' means an offense that is a felony punishable by a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years or more and has as an element the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against the person or property of another, or by its nature involves a substantial risk that physical force against the person or property of another may be used in the course of committing the offense.'.

Think about this for a sec pisshead. Sure, it's another law that takes away your freedom but it's just another law that noone will obey.
Chances are anyone in your vicinity when your talking about cannabis will be safe enough to let it go. This doesn't necessarily mean EVERY time someone hears drug talk they will stalk you to your address, write it down and take it to the cops. If anyone cared that much about drugs in society, they'd report you anyway for advocating their use, policy or no policy.

People arn't going to live in fear for the rest of their lives knowing they didn't tell PC Plod about those guys making marijuana jokes on the train :rolleyes: . People will fuck it and acknowledge how dumb it is. What do you say when a cop asks you if you knew about some guys buying drugs?

I sure hope you right button basher, my only fear is the un safe people, there is still a alot of people that dont use drugs and think that your a smack head if you smoke a joint. If they buy the line that they could end up with jail time if the dont grass u up then who knows what would happen. Some people love their government and see doing what they are told as doing the right thing.

I can imagine the brainless flag-wavers in America would feel their doing their fine country a favour by ratting harmless potheads out to the very government that blackmails them to do so.

I guess pisshead's right in the end but I was thinking about this today. This isn't so much tyranny as what society has become. Think about it, it's the governments next action to deal with the drug problem following years of very little being accomplished. The fact is, drugs have no place in a politically correct society so if this is what it takes to get rid of them, it's ultimately appropriate in the eyes of the government.

It's just another sign of the future. As pisshead says, we'll all soon be one big, happy government family. (I think, sorry :p :D ).

i think the big point is that we have people in congress who think, hey...i'll write this piece of legislation that turns america into soviet russia or nazi germany...

we have people in our government who are subverting the constitution actively, and trying to turn america into a dictatorship.

this won't pass. if there's another attack, this will just get tacked onto another patriot act anyway...

they don't have enough enforcers to pull this kind of thing off. we'll win in the end, but we're going to lose our country in the process.

Oh, though now that I clicked on the link, I see it is on a biased website (for better or worse). do you have a credibly news site backing this up? because otherwise the information isn't necessarily valid or trustworthy.

I think it's that they only want you addicted to their drugs. If they can get all the addicts so scared away from harder core drugs they can then get them hooked on Zoloft and other anti deppresants.

Scares, as in put a few junkies in the pokie for life and they will clean up allot of open drug use.

So the ones that are afriad to spend the rest of their lives wil bubba, will then turn to AA, and psycologist that will then prescribe anti deppresants to fight the addiction.

Altho AA you cannot use any drugs what so ever, the chances are that they will go in and out of useing, especiaslly with the use of anti deppressants.

I suggest that we revolt against these fucks, one way or another. Besides, we should already be pissed off at these people for trying to take our rights away. They're probably doing that behind closed doors secretly.

Yea this shit makes me sick as the first time i heard about it.However,i do not think,that if it is passed it will make "narks" out of people who are not normally "narks".What i'm trying to say is if your a fuckin low life snitch your going to be ratting people out regardless off this law.SO if your not a nark,your not going to start becasue of this bullshit law.

Congress is going about this in an intelligent manner (not moral, but intelligent), attempting to spread distrust and emnity among its people. The only way to fight it is to show a greater bond of trust and unity.
