Is this CFL good to start?
hey, the noob is back again. well first of all ive been asking a lot of questions, and recieved replies that truly help. Especially partypokerman... something like that sorrry. But he told me to start vegging, i need like 2 cfls. Well i took his advice and rolled up in home depot and purchased 4 of these cfls. I know their CFL's, but i dont know if their the good CFL's. The cover states:
25w=100w
and then it says:
soft white light
Lumens=1750
watts=25
well i have bought 4 of these and im right now setting it up so 2 of these get on 1 plant. Im only planting 2 plants. is this a suffecient type of bulb?
Is this CFL good to start?
Yes.
For about one week.
After that, what you gonna do?
Need good light to grow good ferns.
Those wont cut it.
Is this CFL good to start?
about if i add one 100 watt CFL?
Is this CFL good to start?
Ok so you add about another few days worth of lighting. Thats about it.
Remember the CFL you buy is almost always rated at the "equivalent watts", not neccessarily the true watt output.
In reality, you can probably grow with your CFL and the added "100 WATT" setup for about 3 weeks.
The CFL's you want are not generally found in a hardware store. You need Full Spectrum Lighting. These lights are not cheap.
Their advantages lie in:
1) Operating costs. The are very low energy users.
2) Low heat output. It may eliminated the need for forced exhausts and will be cooler on the grow box or grow area.
Other than that, thats about all the advantages. To get the right lights, you gotta spend some dough on them.
If you want full, ripe and short bushy mini-trees, you need to be prepared for the grow boom that starts at about week 3.
The cheap CFL's you have just wont be ready for the challenge.
Again you can grow with them, but you wont be doing the plants any favors with them.
Sorry.
Here is a pic of one of mine grown for 31 days under 2 CFL, 6400K. It will be very difficult to grow this with 25W = 100W CFL's..... no matter how many you use.
Is this CFL good to start?
i found some Full Spectrum 6500k cfl's for 10 $ a piece (wallmart i think)whats the diff between 6400k
and 6500k?, and dont say 100 k lol.i got 5 hanging in a 1 1/2 x6x5 closet split in half seems to be enough light for vegging, plants are loving it.mind you im only vegging till about 7 or 8 inches tall. also seen some 2700k 65w =150w for 15 $ ,i think im gonna pick up for some extra flowering light.in veg ive tried the cool white cfl's after someone on here said they had good luck with them. the 2 week old seedlings loved it n seen good growth, but the 7 week old mother hated it n started lookin bad after about 3 days of it hanging above it ,so i went back to Full Spectrum n everything is on the upity up.

Syko...
Surely you are missing something on the box.
FULL SPECTRUM CFL's at 6400K do not cost $10.00 each.
Sorry it aint happnin.
As for the 64K 65K i dont know of a 65K...if i typed it it was a misstype.
But you arent gonna find these kinda bulbs at wallyworld...much less 10.00 each...
I will stop and wally world next time and see what you are talking about....
something is amiss in your purchase....
i will check it out.
HAPPY GROWING :)
Is this CFL good to start?
they were $7.99 actully lol,its a sewing bulb they call it n lights of america makes them
fuck i wish i had a camara,says on the bulb 2425N 120V/60HZ/25w=100w/380mA(344)
6500K Full Spectrum Self-Ballasted Lamp, they had like 6 of them.i mean it aint much as fall as watts, but 5 of them in my small closet are bright as fuck n it looks like the
right kind of blueish looking light.also i was at home depot n seen a wall fixture light
that came with a 150 watt i think cfl that was 6500k but it didnt say full spectrum ,thats why i was wondering about the 6500K .cuz you would think if the ones i got now are full spectrum at 6500k
then they should be full spectrum also?i dunno ima try these n see what i end up with.peace :D
Is this CFL good to start?
hmm www.lightsofamerica.com dont even have it on thier web site !
Is this CFL good to start?
http://www.lightsofamerica.com/light-color.htm is all the info the site provides.i guess they only use 2700k n 6500k on all their bulbs hmmm.well it says freakin full spectrum on the damn bulb i know that ! lol cuz i havnt smoked my after work bowl yet, anyway tell me what you think, peace
Is this CFL good to start?
OK I checked the site out...
Here is the problem with the lights......
"120V/60HZ/25w=100w/380mA(344)"
These are 25Watt bulbs.
You will need 10 of them to give you a true 250W worth of light.
Also, these are FULL SPECTRUM RENDERING!
Not FULL SPECTRUM!
Big DIFFERNCE.
Thats why they are so cheap.
Next time, spend a few bucks more here and get lights that you dont need 10 of them. Those lights will work, but man you will need a LOT of them.....
http://www.fullspectrumsolutions.com...rescents.shtml
One last thing to remember about your lights you bought...
The number one killer of CFL is heat on the ballast. Improper cooling will cut their life in half.
Also, lights of america is also known as a cheap product company in the retailing sector so dont expect to get true spectrum and dont plant on vegging with them more than once.
They will burn dim rapidly.
But good find. Just get a lot of them and keep the ballast part cool.
Good Luck!

cool thanks for the info, your right n i didnt expect much when i bought them i just seen full spectrum n the cheap price .i am just tryin to go cheap for veg lights, cuz i spent all my cash on flowering lights .and im going 12/12 at 30 days plus im not planning on havin mine as big as yours at 30 days due to the fact im gonna put 1 plant in flowering side every week without running outa room ,so i can (hopfully) harvest one a week.friend of my dads has a set up like that n hooked me up with some good lookin clones with preflowers already on it :D.not sure what strain exactly, its real skunky every one calls it B weed in our area .he's been growin it for 15 years now.all i know is i can only take 2 hits of it before work or ill be fuckin everything up all night.

Hey I saw at Home Depot tonight the 65 CFL I think you saw. $13.00 I think.
But that didnt include the mogul socket they needed. Im sure it the same light too.
The need a ballast....lights didnt look bad actually....but i guess you get what you pay for. WHo knows, might be a good bulb....jsut dont know how long they might last...
Is this CFL good to start?
I bought one of the outside lights from home depot thats a 65w lights of america 6500k light. It has its own reflector and mogul socket. All I had to do was install a power cord. Another thing this bulb puts out like 8000 lumens. it was around $35
I also have a teklight t5 4 bulb unit that puts out 20,000 lumens and seems a hell of a lot brighter. I also bought a couple $12 2 bulb shoplights with the t8 bulbs and I bought a ballst that runs 4 bulbs and took the one ballast out of one light and installed the new one and bammm more light output. So then I took the other ballast and doubled up ballasts on the remaining light. before I overdrove the other light I did a picture comarison of outputs and the overdriven one was better. You can even overdrive the bulbs to 4x.

heres is a pic on the left is a normal t8 fixture and the middle is my teklight t5 and on the right is the 2x overdriven t8 fixture

Is this CFL good to start?
yeah thats the one i seen ,n they got a fixture for it with a reflector like harmon said for 35$,in the outside lights section.id prolly buy it n try it out if the bulb came with it, not sure if it did or not .ill get up there these weekend n check it out.
Is this CFL good to start?
yup it comes with it but all you need is a two conductor power cord for it
Is this CFL good to start?
yeah just went n bought it lol, comes with a 65w=500w 6500k bulb $39 plus tax
its this one here http://www.lightsofamerica.com/floods.htm.u just gotta cover
up the night/day sensor with some black tape.i really dont see how it could = 500W
but thats what they say.plus says on the box its more = to sunlight than a hps,n
i dont see that either.hell it it does the job i say its worth it.if the bulb dont last as long ill just buy a few for 13$ a piece n keep them around.well i gotta go find a spot n dig some holes ,peace
Is this CFL good to start?
You will need at least 3 of those to grow 2 plants with any real density.
Keep it to two plants.
Is this CFL good to start?
yeah they arent quite as bright as it seems they should be. the T8 overdriven seems to put out more light for me and you can just go buy 2 shoplight t8 fixtures for $12 a piece and make them into 1 you can also mix spectrums.
Is this CFL good to start?
naw i couldnt fit 3 in there if i wanted to(less i hung 3 with no fixtures),its only 11/2 wide 3 long n 5 high.got that light and 3 of them 25=100 with reflectors i made.its gonna be fine for what im doing.7 inches tall n they goto flower side n finish their growth, hell im even afriad to collect bat shit from the chimmeny for fear the plant will get to big
flowering side is where i need lots of light.i got 3 three foot tubes 2700k on both sides for side light,100w hps i got off a friend for a joint lol,n 3 65 watt 2700 k cfls i found at this electric store for 20 $ a peice.might add more not sure yet.but yeah im not in this for yield ,im in it for fresh bud every week or 2.if it goes how planned.ive never grown them this small but after seeing a friends set up i had to try it out.he's been doin it for some time now with great succes,.i think he only gets a half oz or so yield, but its every week one is ready to harvest.if i fuck somthin up owell i got 6 growin in 5 gallon buckets up in these trees in the woods
their the ones that are closer to my heart anyway :D
