Which grow method should I use?
I will be growing in a grow tent that is 8' long x 4' wide and 7' tall. There will be two 8 light T5's on the top, all four walls will have 4ft dual light florescent light fixtures on them one low one medium height on the 4 ft walls and the 8 ft walls will have 2 low and 2 medium high. My question for those of you with experience is what dispersal method do I use? SoG? SCRoG? and how many plants can I reasonably fit in there using 5 gal pots?
Which grow method should I use?
each overhead fixture can cover a 3' x 4' area. This will leave room for aisles. In each of these two spots you can place (12) 5 gallon pails, maximum. That's (24) total pails.
SOG would be gone with smaller vessels like one or two gallon brow bags or buckets, lots more plants stuffed into the area. SCROG is a good management system but it does nail the plants in place. I would suggest trying SCROG at a later grow when you have some of the initial FAQs answered.
Which grow method should I use?
Ok so I can place two clusters of 12 plants at each end of the tent under the T5's with an aisle in between them at the center of the tent? Won't the get too crowded for the leaves to get adequate light?

As each grow site that everyone has grows, it is generally up to the farmer to make the decisions regarding crowding as the plants are growing. It is almost impossible for anyone on here to tell you what will be best for your specific grow site because we can't see it and don't know all environmental factors. For instance, if you succesfully fit 24 5-gallon buckets into your grow area, we cannot see your specific ventilation or how close to the edges of the tent your buckets will be. You will have to make the determination on whether or not your space (and wallet) can sustain that many plants in regards to feeding (water/light/nutrients), ventilation (air movement from fans and intake/exhaust of fresh air), and just growth space in general (indicas vs sativas). That's why it's always a good idea to do all this research ahead of time, which it seems you are doing! Think about how frustrating it would be to raise 24 plants for a month or two in vegetative growth, only to realize that they had a massive growth spurt and they're bigger than you thought they would be. You would then have to chop some down, potentially creating suspicious trash, making a dirty mess, and wasting all that valuable time, energy, money, and SPACE in your tent that your other plants could've used for better air flow.
I think you should draw it out on a piece of paper. Plan on each plant taking up another 8-12" of space all the way around each container that you will be finishing in, for leaves when they are growing. Then, you may be able to (more realistically) see what kind of space limitations you are facing and how many plants you can healthily raise.
Remember: I don't think this site is for people to just hop on, learn a quick way of growing half-ass plants, then try to cash in as much as possible. The knowledge that people are passing on to us n00bies should be respected, not abused :rasta:

I agree about the knowledge all knowledge is a gift when shared, I love to teach others and to learn myself. Thanks for explaining it that way, now I know I can map out 5 gal buckets with 8inch buffer zones and see how many I can cram in my tent before they start pressing up against lights or walls. Since I will only being growing Inidicas then I beleive I need to pay more attention to the width of the plant than the height correct? As I understand it Sativas get tall Inidicas get wide. Once I have my max capacity I can further help them grow by playing musical buckets and constantly moving them from the center of the group outwards and outwards in. I can place a fan or two in opposite corners to keep air circulating and of course trim and train the plants as needed. now I need to figure out how much nutes they will go through so I can calculate that cost (is there a formula?) and also buy some smart pots which should allow closer bunching being flexible fabric as opposed to rigid plastic.

Huntsman sez..,.Won't the get too crowded for the leaves to get adequate light?
yes, it it a stupid idea. forget I mentioned it. stupid stupid stupid. I'm fucking tired of you already, Huntsman. goinfukyerself.
Which grow method should I use?
Have to say I would pass on the 5 gallon buckets in a tent.
Which grow method should I use?
yabut he wants huge yield. do you mean go larger? or get huge yield from a small vessel?
Which grow method should I use?
I just think, I get better yields and efficiency with better canopy coverage, really don't get much from those little buds underneath. So I like lots of tops and a short grow time, so I can start the next grow quicker.
But you know am no expert!!

If you would pas on 5 gal buckets or smart pots then what would you use?

I think that I could make a real long post with lots of quotes from above, that would simply be a rehash of the info you have.
Basically comes do to-to each his own, I usually just quote my experience, and try to learn for the others I've met or read about, sounds like doog's huh. And I'm a terrible writer so I try to stay brief.
Some bullet points though:
1. Since your in a friendlier state than I, I realize you may be trying to be legal on your plant numbers, which is problem I wish I had. That being said your 4x8 tent is still pretty small, and like you've said, paid for. So why waste any space? I believe in some buffer zone(spead area), kinda like that description, and usually the plant will double in size, from the end of veg through bloom. I'm in a 5x10, and want to use every square inch of space so I pack it pretty tight, don't figure I need alleys, I can take a couple out to service the back or corners of needed(which rules out the scrog), sounds like your musical buckets. I use my rain barrel, sub pump, garden hose, and wand so I can reach all to water individually pretty easily. I even mount my fans on the top so they take zero space. In an outbuilding (crushed rock floor), so I drain to waste, no water catchers. Have run 5gal buckets, but found them too heavy to move much, so went one gal-one square foot. Bags may be even better.
2. Lights. Love my t-5 4' banks for veging, but go for the big stuff for bloom, like 1000w hps for bloom. See that your already adding lights, so sounds like a good cheap way to start(just dropped close to a grand on new hps systems).
3. Variety. Can't really say till I see the fat lady sing, others here are a lot more adventurous than I.
4. Yields. Have pulled three lbs from my 5x10, know that's not record territory, but it was good!!smoke. A one month veg and two month bloom allows for 3 runs a year, 5 because my tent is just used for bloom, veg else where.
Sorry no silver bullets here, you'll live and learn. This thing took me close to two hours to do, why I stay brief! Sounds like I just repeated a hole lot of stuff others have said.
Tonto asked if your any good with that thing your holding??

his tent is twice that size, bro
Which grow method should I use?
Thought it was 4x8, sorry

Thanks for all the info and patience I really do appreciate it. And yes I have been shooting rifle since I was 18 months old, handguns since I was about 3 and bows since I was about 8 or so just old enough to have the strength to draw. Not saying I'm some super leet ninja sniper but I can hold my own with all of them.

Careful they hate guns and pot together.
