*****NEED ANSWERS ABOUT LED *****
Hey guys I have a couple of questions about LEDS, first of all my current setup is a 100x 3w Panel here is a link
300W Full Spectrum 9BAND LED Grow Light IR VEG Flower Hydroponic Panel Lamp New | eBay
But anyways I want to know is that enough to grow 3 plants from vegetative to flower I want to do a Scrog, but I am willing to add more light if needed like a couple 65 watt CFL or Higher if I can find some at Home Depot or Lowes I have it a Cab thats 48x12x18 and it might be a little bigger thats Just what it looks like I need to Measure it, I have two cpu fans on top that exhaust hot air and one small house fan on the bottom for the intake I have drilled holes so there is plenty of air movement. Also I would like to know what do you think my average yield will be right now have 3 Bagseed seedlings under the LED and one of my biggest problems are finding people that have relative grows to mine I mean I seen those 600 watt leds on youtube and there like a grand but then I see a BluLight 120x3 produce 13 + Ounces On Youtube and that seems unreal to me but apparently Wattage does not matter its Spectrum which is confusing so there you go.

anyone there that think they can Help??

Here's an odd statement, that I have to disagree with.
"Wattage does not matter its Spectrum which is confusing so there you go."
Wattage/efficiency are important for flowering.
Not so much for vegging.
I veg a dozen 'lings under 50 Watts quite well.
Of course, I don't waste watts on inefficient colors.
All my electricity cost goes into the 2 colors that cannabis uses most efficiently.
660nm. red and 460nm. blue
When properly "tuned", the plants look black.
Everything absorbed, very little get reflected.
Been doing this for several years.
Built my own, adjustable arrays and and played with different color mixes in side by side experiments.
Found that chasing the "lost" chord was a waste of time.
Now when I see these ads for 5 bands, 9 bands, IR, UV, etc I have to smile.
The unprincipled, gettin' wealthy off the under-informed.
It's gotten very silly, actually.
Meanwhile, I muddle on with my paltry 2 colors. :D ;

Ok so my questions are still not answered and Im still wondering will anyone ever get a straight answer when it comes to LEDS
-
*****NEED ANSWERS ABOUT LED *****
The CFL's will probably only be needed for side and under lighting if that answers your question. Also we need to know how long you plan on vegging to determine a relative height and space to see if that panel would cover them efficiently. Are you using mylar or what kind of reflective material?

Thought I had answered it and then some.
I'll try again.
First, we have to find, isolate, and understand the question.
Ah, here it is:
"But anyways I want to know is that enough to grow 3 plants from vegetative to flower"
Yes. :D

Im using Flat white paint and I will probably veg them for 3-4weeks then flower how much do you think i could yield with just that panel if you could make an educated guess I know theres a lot of factors but I want to know so I know how much CFLs to add
-
*****NEED ANSWERS ABOUT LED *****
Sorry I meant no disrespect but I have been researching constantly and getting nowhere thank you for replying.
-
*****NEED ANSWERS ABOUT LED *****
I have never used CFL's been LED since day one but I would assume about 1 on each side of the plants would be sufficient. All I can say is every situation and every Light is different catbuds and weezard could probably help you more with that question than me.
-
*****NEED ANSWERS ABOUT LED *****
I understand that situation as well because so many people doubt LEDs even though they work great.
-
*****NEED ANSWERS ABOUT LED *****
Argh!
Tried to say this in a rep. comment because there are no PM's here.
(Not a job for shakey, old, fingers.)
The only way to actually get a straight answer here, is to carefully formulate the question.
If you have an answer in mind, and seek confirmation of your conclusions, the answers that you get will generally not be worthwhile.
If you have researched your ass off, and still have specific questions.
I suggest that you browse for members that are successful in that areas, and give them one, clear, question at a time, in public forum.
If they do not know, you may both learn something new when the "peanut gallery" chimes in. :)
Anyway, that worked well for me.
Got a free education from this board.

I understand well i guess there may be no answer Ill have to wait and see Im just going to add like 3 or 4 65 watt cfls and hope i get over 28 Grams that would be awesome
-
*****NEED ANSWERS ABOUT LED *****
:D Missed it again. :D
(I want some of what you're smoking).
The answer to your question, is YES.
And you do not need the cfls.
How do I know?
Been there, done that.
Actually did a side by side.
Leds/cfl in one, only led in the other.
Not enough difference to justify the added power cost.
Same thing with UV.
Now I just use two colors of leds.
Far red, is a different story.
It can hasten flowering if applied for an hour at lights off.
I'm in no hurry, so I no bother.
Best of luck,
Weeze

sorry to jack the thread a bit, nice to hear from a fellow led fan ,i have 20x3w led's as side lighting in warm and cool light plus 120w overhead iuse the hps to keep the temps up. Germination and seedlings are under 1.8w 6400 bulbs (at one inch) this works well thanks for your time

Weezard,
Thank you for all the tidbits of info you have shared. I have been compiling a list of info. I am still a ways off from starting my first grow and am still undetermined regarding grow room/tent/closet size but I am sure it will be no bigger than 4'x4' at its largest. I am leaning towards a soil grow with LEDs and I would like to purchase ready-made LED grow light(s). I know I still have to do more research on that parameter of the grow. I am also leaning towards a SOG/SCROG grow. I am starting to understand the basics but still have a ton more to learn before I feel adequately prepared. With a SCROG, would I need to put lights beneath the canopy as I thought the inherent aim was to blossom the canopy of green loveliness?
On a side note on your photos that you posted with the bucket, the last photo definitely qualifies as PORN!!! You good sir have serious skills. I am beyond envious and very respecting of your knowledge.

PPPDragon - I believe you would always put the lights above the SCROG. The plants will be growing up into the SCROG, and you don't want the lights tangle into the SCROG or the plants growing into the lights. Keep lights and heat away from plants and rope!
Weez - in the pic with the LED panel pointed directly into the 5g buckets, are the plants raised closer to the LED panel, or is the height fine where it is because that bucket is crazy reflective?

My bad, should have captioned.
There's nothing in those buckets but a light meter. :D
I was using them as a standard shape and size for a side by side test of different reflective surfaces.
Then as an efficacy test of different LEDs
BTW the reflectix won!
And I settled for Ledengin 15W emitters. :)
Can't help it, I trust nothing and test everything. :D

you seem to be an LED pro...i just started a little operation, had some seedlings under T5 for a week, and just switched them over to full LED yesterday.....my question is this....should the seedlings grow fairly decent under the LEDs...or would i be better off keeping them under T5 till a certain point....the plants currently sit in a 3x3x5 with one 240 watt blue and red led...(g8LED) and one 90 watt red booster UFO...the plants are auto flowers so thats why i got the red ufo to help with flower...would just like some seedling knowledge for LEDs seems to be limited info.
thanks weez

Hey budbro- I also started with a T5 from seeds for several days before my LED arrived. My seeds sprouted under T5, and then I had the LED hooked up and switched over to a combo of full spectrum/veg spectrum. I sometimes switched to veg (blue) only because it seemed that full spectrum raised the temp in my cabinet 2-4 degrees, and that was too high for me when it was warmer in my house. My plants have been under LED's since then, and it has been about 3 weeks. I have a grow log that I just started if you would like to see some pics to see where they're at.

Mahalo for the vote of confidence, but I'm not a pro at anything.
I used to was a wiz at electronics and computers, but now antisocial insecurity pays me to kick back.
Guess that makes me a professional goof off.
My amateur opinion is;
Go with the t5 until the are past the stretching phase.
It's very hard to start 'lings with leds.
Most folks keep them too close and fry their plants, then claim that leds don't work.
Most commercial leds have a too high R:B ratio and will cause major stretch regardless of distance
Adding blue does not help, unless you back way off on the red.
I found it tricky, and being cheap and lazy, just threw a CFL at them for the first week or so.
This last batch are getting sunlight, with an LED array in the evening just to lengthen their day and keep them in veg.
Our tropical nights are a tad long and Indica's bolt to flower straight away without light extension.
Thinking about just giving them 2 hours of LED in the middle of the dark cycle so I don't have to keep resetting the timer as the planet wobbles.
(Did I mention lazy?)
Google "Discussion of the pragmatic application of LED's"
There's some good stuff there.
Aloha, enjoy

Ah it must be nice to be on an island in the Pacific right now! It was not so nice shoveling the first few inches of snow of the year today on the east coast.

ea as i read that im looking at freezing rain....lucky lucky man you are haha....thanks for the advice...been kinda fooling around with moving the plants around...and in the small tent o gpt i have most under the t5 and had one under the LEDs...the T5 sem to be fine but the one uner the LED does seem to have a little stretch in it...(leaves seem to be reaching for the light)...im gunna go with the t5 for anothe week or so until i get the second set of top leaves....thanks for the link weez....and DOOG what an epic but picture...i hope you know this fair maiden...Apple bottom jeans...boots with fur......got the lights used though for a pretty good deal..give me some input/adivce i can take all i can get.....also ive posted a link to a youtube video to give yall and idea of what im working with...(current grow)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2rUxFLt2co
the lights i am using are a G8led 240 full spectrum...and a G8 90 watt full RED ufo light

Weezard,
I am lacking in your electronics skills, so I am leaning towards a pre-fab led unit like the Kind K3-L600. I see from the photos that this light appears to be more for flowering versus vegetative growth. What would you recommends in terms of LED lights for the veg phase?

I can't see that it's for either. :(
What I do see is marketing.
And we have a winner of the "band wars". :D
Seriously, by experiment, I find no need for more than 4 "bands" at the most.
And 2 of them are not really necessary, (they don't return enough bang for the buck). :)
I use 660nm. red, and ~460 Blue.
Those are the "bands" that ganja listens to most intently.
Some "strains" do not take kindly to leds.
But those plants do not "like" full spectrum CFLs either.
Find a light that uses the most efficacious color frequencies with a high R:B ratio.
Then choose the one that lets you dim the red and you will have one lamp suitable for both flowering and vegging.
And you get to tell it which and when. :)
Hope that helps,
Weezard

Does such an LED light device exist? Dorm Grow doesn't dim, I am not sure if Kind dims their reds either. Hmmm...

*****NEED ANSWERS ABOUT LED *****
What are you going to go with, PPPD? I have seen many LED's with "active switch" technology that allows the user to switch from all blue to all red to full spectrum. Mine has On/Off for each, or I can leave all on. I have been leaving both ON for the entire 18 hour cycle because heat has not been a problem. I was not doing this initially because switching the Red ON during Veg (which I'm still in) was raising temp an extra 2-4 degrees, but I have improved air flow and this has not been an issue. Check out my log in the Grow Log section for info on my LED and some pics of what it's producing if you're interested!

what ratio of 660 to 460 should be used for flowering only?
