Think back to when you were six years old. What was your world like? Mine consisted of playing baseball, cowboys and Indians (I didn't know from Native Americans), and watching a goofy guy named Howdy Doody on TV. That filled much of my leisure time.
In school, a glaring nun named Sister Lurana taught me to read 'Dick and Jane' stories. I had a book that said stuff like, "Look at Jane. See Jane run. Dick likes Jane." It really didn't matter to me whether Dick liked Jane or not--I wanted to climb a tree. But the nun insisted I learn to read the book, so I did.

Today, in Lexington, Massachusetts, six year-olds have another book. It is called "Who's In a Family?" This book features not only Dick and Jane but Jennifer and Lauren and Charles and Henry. The pages tell little kids about different kinds of families: mixed race, gay and lesbian, and even traditional family units. They are all discussed in very positive ways.

A father named David Parker took one look at the same sex part of the book and made an appointment to see the principal of the Estabrook Elementary School, a woman named Joni Jay. Mr. Parker asked Ms. Jay to inform him when the gay family stuff was going to be presented, because he felt his little son was too young to learn about homosexuality and he would keep him home that day. Sounds reasonable, right?

Not so fast.

Ms. Jay informed Mr. Parker that the family book had nothing to do with sexuality, and so he was not entitled under the Massachusetts sex-ed law to get a heads up. When Mr. Parker pointed out that same sex situations contain the word 'sex,' he was asked to leave the principal's office. He refused. So the Lexington police arrested him on trespassing charges.

Very quietly all over the country, these kinds of culture war expositions are being played out in assorted public school systems. Under the banner of teaching tolerance, many school boards have okayed books that delve into social issues far beyond the comprehension of most six-year-olds. I don't know about you, but I thought gay meant "happy" until I was eleven years old, and even then, I could not have cared less whether Lenny and Squiggy were a couple. I wanted to steal second and see monster movies, not understand what happens in Key West.

But today we have a massive mission of indoctrination going on in America, and millions of traditional parents don't like it. I am siding with that group. I don't want to tell my little kids about "alternative lifestyles" unless we're talking about the Munchkins in the "Wizard of Oz."

I think both Dick and Jane would agree that we should all back off and give the kids a break. Let's bring back childhood in America, okay? No more "diversity" books for kindergarteners. No more bare midriffs for nine-year-old girls. No more gold chains for boys going into third grade. Got it? Let's work together on this.

The world is a tough, nasty place and children will learn that soon enough. Shouldn't we make their first years fun years, free of political and social agendas? Why do some little kids these days look like Britney Spears and Kid Rock? What the deuce is wrong with us?

Summing up, Dick likes Jane and that's enough for six-year-olds. Larry and Bruce can wait a few years.

Unfortunately, it's been proven that Bill O'Reiley is fullof shit, so why even read that? Besises, he's a coward, won't take any guests that could make a good argument. If anyone starts making sense, he dumps them. He refuses to accept challenges from many people because he knows he's not that good of a debater.

I do agree that political correctness has gotten out of hand, lol, i remember watching "A Christmas Carol", Thier family consisted of Whites, Blacks, 1 asian and 1 hispanic! Tell me how the fuck that is supposed to happen in 1800's England? WTF is wrong with people?

Kids need to learn about gayness early so they can make fun of other kids for being gay in 1st grade.

He tried religion, and all the bunk. Finally after trying to kill himself because of the shame, (an act he nearly suceeded at) He got some help. Because his Mother did not disown him, he'll cope. Unfortunately his Father told him he should be dead. He's a hard working young man, (works for our gov't by the way), clean, quiet and well mannered. He doesn't smoke, drink, or engage in promiscuity. I happen to Love him, he's my son. He's also a much better person than I am. I don't bash long haired, hippy, pot smoking Grandpa's, (that happen to be republican) Or their non-christian spouses. (I'm a born again Christian). To each his own life. At judgement you will not be asked to answer for anyone but yourself, I will answer, I love my son.

And, kuulbns, I don't want to say your son is lucky because it sounds like he's gone through more than his share of crap for who he is. But I do think he's lucky to have a father like you. I'm not gay, but if I was, it's highly unlikely my father would be the same way.

I would like to point out,that I have not yet expressed my opinions or beliefs,about gays in this thread..or even about the article I posted,I presume that you are referring to my previous hateful comments about gays..much of which,I have apologized for,already.

After my daughter was sexually molested as a young girl,at the hands of a male bisexual,I feared that she would grow up hating men,and turn lesbian..praise the Lord--that she did not. As for the study that you refer to,who conducted the study ? Was it amoral,God-less,liberals with an agenda ? I would never dis-own my daughter,even if she had turned to lesbians for a relationship..and if homosexuality,is indeed biological,it is a biological flaw,because humans reproduce heterosexually..not through homosexual acts.

I posted this article,because it highlights the snobbish superiority of liberal,secular elitists,who believe that they know what's best for our children,and seek to undermine parental authority and religious beliefs..and to heck with the consequences of doing such..because they believe that their agenda of teaching tolerance,is more important than the relationship between a parent and child.

I believe that you are right to love your son unconditionally,and that you are doing the right thing..I commend you for it,and I apologize if my words have hurt you..my intent is not to hurt or demean,but to fight for my rights as a parent,to raise my child as I see fit..not the way some amoral,secularist believes that I should . Teaching tolerance in this manner,is denying my child and I,the right to religious freedom and belief,and is a direct intervention between children and their parents.

My first husband was a "heterosexual" man that wanted his children raised his way. If that took beating the crap out of a six year old, too bad he was teaching his way. I did eventually make it out with my kids, who were all raised in a heterosexual, church going home. You raise your daughter your way (She must be grown by now) as I'm sure she is perfect. A pedophile is not the same thing as a gay person. Who is better equiped to raise kids, A poor teenage couple, or a financially stable educated couple ? At least my son didn't have kids he wasn't ready for at 16! lolI would much rather see people such as my son raising children than someone with little or no tolerance for others. By the way!! Then explain why practically every child that gets sexually abused when growing either goes gay, goes criminal, or goes child molester as well? Sure maybe some people are born gay... but I'd say most are gay because of a sexually chaotic childhood. It really is swept under the rug how big of a problem child abuse is. My dad,used to beat the heck out of me and my brother,with a belt,and I usually got beat the most,because I was the oldest,and should have known better..I even took the blame for things my little brother did,to spare him..but it didn't always work. When I became a dad,at 19,I vowed to never beat my child with a belt..and I never did..she got a few spankings,but she was a quicker learner than me and I didn't have to spank her much,at all.

I was raised to believe that men with facial hair,had something to hide and that long hair was girly too..however,when I decided to join the hippy revolution in the early 70's,I began growing my hair and beard out,so that I could seperate myself from the redneck cowboys..I wanted to be non-conformist..my old man didn't like it..but I stuck to my guns..and when the vice-principal told me to shave off my goatee and cut my hair,my old man surprised me and stood up for me. Maybe it was because the he didn't want anyone to tell his son what to do,maybe it also was because the vice-principal was black..after my old man had a talk with him,he didn't ever bother me again. That vice-principal,is now the mayor..lol..funny how things turn out.

I haven't gone to my Church,in a long time,it's a 40 mile round-trip and I can't afford to go anymore..but it would be interesting to see how the folks there would treat me and my Jewish girlfriend..I'm certain that they would have some kind of issue with my long-hair and beard,and my Jewish girlfriend..however,lately right-wing Christians are siding with Israel..so maybe she would be welcome.

I wish nothing but the best,for you and your's..I'm trying real hard to not be so judgemental of other folks and leave things in God's Hands..but it ain't easy.

Thank You Torog. I appreciate the fact that you try to be open minded. I am not trying to change anyone, or their right to an oppinion. Experiences in life often result in learning experiences, to share that is to try to share what you've learned along the way.
I'm just a simple woman, though I have learned that in life, we all have something about us that others do not like. Whether it's the way you look, religion, or a million other things. I have found that dialogue often leads to understanding, if not acceptance.
Here we have the chance for open dialogue, and I thank you all for contributing.

If there is a defect in the methodology then point it out, you can't rely on the simple possibility. And when if you somehow prove that homosexuality is a choice (you won't) then great!
