My First Grow Ever can i get some feedback.......
this is my first grow. i am trying this because i love to smoke great pot but the pricing on the good stuff is getting a little out of hand. i am starting out with bag seeds. i dont want to screw the good seeds up.... i started with 15 bag seeds an out the 15, 9 of them have sprout an are now 3 inch tall after 5 days of growing.. i think that i have a very good setup going but like i said i do not know because this is my first grow... im using scotts hyponexs potting soil wit some peat moss an perlite mix an i have some in some sta-green potting soil wit peat moss an perlite mix.(jus trying to see which works best) yet both are seeming to be doing fine.... i have 3 cfl lights.. 2 of the lights are 300 watts but only us 65 watts each an produces 3900 lumnes an i have a 200watt cfl bulb that uses 55watts an produce 3800 lumens..well i need more lights an i was wondering how tall should i let them grow before transplanting them into there new home which are 3 gallon pots. also i was wondering when should i start giving them nuits? its hard to find plant food cause we dont have a hydro store n my area an the local home depot an walmarts dont sell hydro food... does anyone know a good name of plant food i could give my girls that i can get from a walmart or home depot.... i hurd tomato food works good for them i bought a box but have not added any into my plants because they are to young. the box say its a 9-12-12 mix....i also have my lights on for 22 hours an of for 2 hours is that an ok time for my plants in this seedling/veg state... i think im doing a good job so far but would like a little feedback from you guys thanks alot MKWORLD here are some pics of my setup an plants let me know what u think PROS & CONSAttachment 291349Attachment 291350Attachment 291351Attachment 291352

Next time I recommend 18 ounce plastic cups; with holes drilled in the bottom.
The cups will allow for more roots to grow & are easier to transplant, from...
(fill them 2/3 full...when the seedlings stretch....add more soil to the cup)
(keeps them upright) :stoned:

Yut, 'Red Solo Cups'. I start my seeds all in a large planter and within the first week they go into the party cups.
One theory I've heard is that a deeper initial pot may result in better female/male ratio.
-
My First Grow Ever can i get some feedback.......
ok so the only problem that you guys are seeing is that my startering cups are too small..... i thought that they might be but it was also the best for me as to i thought they would not even get to the height that they are at now.... i know it to late now to move them to the solo cups so when do u think i should transplant them into the 3 gallon pots cause i dont want to kill the girls because there cups are too small now or because there roots couldn grow
-
My First Grow Ever can i get some feedback.......
an do you grow ur whole blant in those solo/party cups?

No...I transplant after about 3 weeks. Then you can start a very weak nute solution with their water.
I recommend a 20-10-10 nute.
-
My First Grow Ever can i get some feedback.......
ok so u started in the party cups then transplanted.... the nute i have say that they are a 9-12-12 is that to weak for the nute? and if so where can i get some good nutes from without having a hydro store in my city..
-
My First Grow Ever can i get some feedback.......
i have home depots, lowes, an walmarts in my city
-
My First Grow Ever can i get some feedback.......
I get my nutes at Walmart or Lowes. 9-12-12 is ok. Just keep it weak. Just enough to stain the water; until flowering.
ps ...get stronger lighting if you are serious.

If you are worried about heat florescent lights will work just fine. Yield may not be what it would be under a HPS. They are also easier on the electric bill. I use a pair of T5 four bulb 2' fixtures with 6500K bulbs for vegging with excellent results. I just ordered 8 3000k lights for summer time flowering. The HPS light is way too hot for summer time where I live - in winter it helps heat the house. If my experiment goes well I may just use the T5's year round and save a few bucks on the electric bill. If I get some time tomorrow I'll post a few pics of some young plants I have under one of the T5 veg lights. At four weeks since cloning they are very bushy and about 1' high - and of course very beautiful. They show no signs of 'reaching' for light - the T5 lights supply all the light they need.
At any rate any light system is going to be a large part of your cash layout to grow good bud. Cheap lights = cheap yield.

yea i figured i would spend most of my money on the lighting system but i have seen some sexy ladys grown under cfl and produced 4 to 5 ounces off of each plant... it all how it set up i think but i did plan on upgrading my light system just dont know when i will.... i think i will after my first grow.. right now im jus making sure i know how to do it an grow some nice bud before i spring for all the big buck stuff.

As promised - my three 'mother' plants. One cheddar cheese - one purple cush - and one white widow. These came out of 18oz cups this morning. They were cloned just before the plants in the grow tent went under 12/12 lights (HPS). These are about 12-14" long after 3 weeks. I'll take clones from these when they get another foot or so tall then these will go under a 12/12 T5 3000k bulbs.

This last picture is a shot of my grow tent taken this morning. There are some burnt leaves from the HPS light. I call them my 'Icarus' girls.

i was wondering when should i transplant my plants they are 6 days old an about and about 3 1/2 inchs an i was wonder how big should i let my babys get before transplant an what size pots should i get for my transplant. i think im going to need more light as im jus running 3 cfl 2 are 300 watts that run at 65 watts an one is 200 watts running at 55 watts
-
My First Grow Ever can i get some feedback.......
Drop the "300 watt", "200 watt". We know cfl wattages and don't bother with the "equivalent watts".
Well, for three lights and nine plants (count on 4-5 males), so five plants total. I'd go with 3 gallon grow bags. I've been using the woven , reusable grocery bags to grow. Put in 3 gallons or so and roll down the edge like a cuff. Cheap alternative to "smart pots". Cost about $1 each at the grocery store.

ok thanks an ive hurd that if u want a 3 foot plant u should veg till it is a foot an a half then start the flowering cause it will grow the other foot n a half in flowering

can i have a lil help with the nutrients... i went out an got some ol off brand nuts it say on the box that it 9-12-12..... its called expert gardener tomato & vegetable plant food I was wondering if that was a good nitrogen, phosphorus, an potassium ratio. thanks alot also when should i start to feed my babies
-
My First Grow Ever can i get some feedback.......
I use Miracle Grow which is a 24-8-16 mix. Works for me. For flowering I use Jack's Classic Blossom Booster with a 10-30-20 mix. I start the 'girls' (clones) on a mild mixture of MG right after they take root and show signs of new leaves. Here's a shot of three of them about a month after cloning - they are about 14" high - should be ready for flowering in another month or so. I'll take clones from these in about two weeks.

You have weeds in your weed garden.
Be very careful with the Superthrive. It is strong and can hurt or kill your plants.
I don't like to say this but I had zero luck with cheap pH meters. They all lie. At least get either litmus paper or drops kit or calibration solution to check your meter. And do this frequently. In the meantime, try vinegar or orange juice. They should read about 3.5 pH.
Your plants look fine. Good growing.

can some plz explain to me what flushing is i was reading up on it but still unsure on wen to do it or how to do it.... also i was wondering when should i start flowering i was thinking maybe around the 5th week that i would turn them over to the 12/12 stage... i was thinking maybe veg them till they are 12-24 inchs tall to start flowering
-
My First Grow Ever can i get some feedback.......
flushing is running copious amounts of water through the medium. Usually three times the volume of the vessel. This is done to try and remove excess nutrients from the medium. Often this is done at the end of bloom cycle.
5th week sounds good, especially if you are going with CFLs. You need to have those lights very close to the bud sites so a plant starting at 12"+ may end up at 24"+ and that's a lot of area to close in on with CFL lamps.
