passed test yesterday, but not today. Thoughts?

So alittle background on me. I'm 27 yrs old 6' and about 170lbs. I've been a daily smoker for the last 5 years. About 2 weeks ago I was called in for an interview and I knew they would drug test me so I stopped smoking. The interview process took a week and they're just waiting on my background before they send me in to do my drug test (UA at Concentra Urgent Care). I started the Stinger 7 day Detox and finished the regiment last friday. I wanted to check the results so I bought an at home drug test from walgreens and I passed. Since I'm a paranoid person I wanted to double check my results with one of those cheap test strips you can pick up at any head shop. I failed that one. I haven't been exposed to pot smoke in 14 days now so I don't know why I'd pass the walgreens one and not the one from the head shop. I already own a bottle of quickfix, but since I've been clean for 2 weeks I'd prefer to pass the test legit. I'm going in to pee either tomorrow or thursday.

Has anyone ever had this happen, where they'd pass a test and then a day later fail one? What would cause this?

What caused that is for your first test, youve managed to dilute the THCA concentration in your bladder enough to register a negative. The effects of any dilution technique (that includes using magic "detox" potions) are only temporary - once the fluids ingested had all been urinated out, the bladder is replenished with fresh THCA-laden urine, and thus the donor resumes testing positive for THC. This is what happened in your case.

ALL "detox" products work by diluting. They do not rid the body of THC as the sales pitches would like the consumer to believe. They are nothing but a big scam to separate the credulous from their cash. You can spend an obscene amount of money on a magic elixir and accomplish nothing different than what can be accomplished using water and vitamin B2.

There is no product that can permanently rid the body of THC. Only time and fat-burning exercise can do this.

That's a bummer, I wasted probably $100 on this detox method and worst of all... I followed the dietary guidelines. That means I ate salad for 5 days straight. Guess that bottle of quickfix is getting used.

You can pass a piss test one day and fail another without dilluting one test and not another etc. Levels of THC-COOH fluctuate in your body daily as shown in these studies in an article by NORML. Marijuana Drug Test Detection Times | California NORML

Also, Burnt Toast, I see you always stating that Immunoassay GC/MS test for different metabolites, and if you can pass an immunoassay, you can pass a GC/MS. From the research ive done on this i've came up with different. That both tests test for the same metabolite (THC-COOH) and the GC/MS is a more sensitive test. I'd like to know how you figure your conclusion about these two tests.

Whatever research youve claimed to have read, its wrong. THC enters the body in its ingested form and exits the body as 31 different metabolite concentrations, the most prevalent form being the THC-COOH concentration.

Immunoassays, being a non-selective methodology, recognize all 31 metabolite concentrations combined, while the GC/MS, a selective and more accurate (rather than "sensitive") methodology, recognizes only ONE metabolite concentration - the metabolite concentration that matters the most - the THC-COOH metabolite concentration. Thats why the GC/MS carries a numerically lower cutoff threshold. The cutoff has to be set at a lower number in order to make the two types of tests functionally equivalent.

People that claim that the GC/MS is a "more sensitive" test are only compounding the hysteria that less informed folks have towards the GC/MS.

While I salute NORML for their efforts in their drive towards across-the-board MJ legalization, their info on drug testing leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps they need to just stick with their drive towards legalization.

These are quotes from the article I posted a link to. Maybe i'm not understanding them correctly, but the first one says that Immunoassays are specified to THC-COOH. But the second one does say it will react to other metabolites. Would the "confirmation assays" be the GC/MS? What do they mean by confirmation assays?

The methodology used for confirmation tests is the GC/MS which is NOT an assay, per se. Its apparent that the article is loosely tossing around the word "assay" like a baseball in a bullpen.

...which is basically the same thing Ive stated above - minus the loosely (and incorrectly applied) "assay" reference.

There use of the term assays make it seem like they're talking about immunoassay. But I hear ya.
I've been reading this site because I took a pre employment DOT drug test. I have been "clean" for 64 days before I took the drug test. I even took an at home drug test and got a light pink line for negative 34 days ago(first void). I thought I was good for sure went in pretty confident. This was 3 days ago. I still haven't heard anything back and after doing research am scared to death now as I find peaple are failing even past 64 days. And rarely does anyone who makes a thread about drug tests ever post a follow up of the results on here.
I took nothing when I took the drug test and used my first void (didnt know at the time it was the most concentrated). I did piss a little in the toilet first before in the cup. I hope that helped somewhat.
I hope i'm not one of them that THC-COOH etc stays with for a long time. I cant afford to fail this. The fact the results still aren't in are adding to my nervousness. :(

I wouldnt get too nervous about this because, under DOT regulations, all urine specimens must be bagged, tagged, and sent off to a seperate facility for analysis - any onsite testing is prohibited, as per DOT regs. And 3 days is hardly enough time for the entire process (courier, analysis, reporting of results) to run its course, considering that there are likely other specimens that have to be tested besides yours.

If you dont hear anything by your prospective employer by Tuesday, 3/12/13, give the employer a call and ask for your "start date" (wink wink). The employers response there oughta shed some light on whether youre good to go, or if the employer had moved on to the next applicant for hire.
During your interactions with the employer, never inquire about the test results. Doing so will only serve to raise suspicious eyebrows, particularly if you want to be viewed by employer as a "drug-free" person.

That makes me feal a little better on the time frame. It does say on the receipt the specimen is being sent out to a doctor which is the next state over. The doctor's address comes up as a company that does drug screens and background checks for employment. After looking at their website, it says they use Labcorp and Quest diagnostics, so I think it might even go out from there to an actual lab. I guess if I hear from the employer before an MRO, im golden.

Well, got the call today....and I passed! It was likely because of the time I had. Just figured I'd share the results since it seems not many people on here do.

Well I passed the test. Here's what happened....

I used the stinger 7 day permanent detox, after it was done it worked for a sunday. Or maybe didn't work at all since I was chugging water and just diluted it on my own. I went back to testing positive on the monday after. Due to a glitch in my background check I had a few extra days before I took my test so I just stayed with the detoxing regiment (lots of fluids, lots of cardio, lots of sitting in a steam room) and it turned out that once my background check came back that the HR lady was on a long weekend so I had an extra weekend to carry on. That sunday before my test I did another drug test (this is one week after the "permanent" detox was over) and it was still positive. So I strapped a bottle of quickfix on my thigh and went it. The lab tech was easy enough to fake out and didn't watch me pee. I simply pulled the bottle out of my compression shorts, squirted enough in to fill the line and then squirted the rest into the bowl loudly enough to be heard. The temp read at 94. I passed it off to the tech and they had the results at work within 15min that I was clear to start.

The moral of the story is that you can waste a lot of valuable smoking days trying to get clean. I personally passed on an opportunity to smoke with comedian Doug Benson so that I could pass my test. In the end though the quickfix was what saved the day. On the plus side, my tolerance for THC was garbage by the time I picked the pipe back up.
