topped blue widow by dog update with lst!
hey guys
so here i have my blue widow, the smaller guys are blue hash, critical jack, and a big bud x white widow, my dog ate my previous 2 blue widows m ladyburn hence the difference in growth! the biggest girl the last survivor , blue widow, was topped at 1 week by my dog, bite the head off the plant back to its 1st single bladed leaf!!:wtf: naturally i panicked as i hadnt even reached the 3rd node :( im still a noob so was lookin for some info on it, what to expect ect but couldnt find out a great deal so i thought i wud post this for any other noobs bout topping to low.
soo..here are my results... not much different from any other 'top' really, pretty much just the same as topping 2 nodes 3 nodes high
no differences in recovery time and no visible added stress to the plant, advantages tho is with a little lst, iv tied the new two main stems in the oppersite directions, with the top is so low all the side branches that would otherwise be shadowed n ighting for light is flourishing and with the stems in different directions it really opens the plant up to the light, and with the shift in auxin's from the lst it looks like she is gonna be a bushy beast, she will go into flower when the other guys are at a decent size but ill put up more pics as she progresses.
anyone has experience with any of these strains please pipe up with advice or just things to look out for:thumbsup:
also does anyone know how to put up a disclaimer.. as all this is in my head and i do it for shits and giggles

also noticed slight twisting of leaves on the bluewidow and slightly paler on tips, i have a 600w set up so thinking light might av been to close for twisting leaves and now on ionic soil n boost for pale green tips, lst and bigger air fan will hopeully solve heat and twistly leaf probem but need to keep light low as poss until the new ones catch up height wise

:thumbsup:higher_than_you;
Dog ate your plant?;)
I am concerned for the dog! he/she might out live you!
I am looking into a Blueberry X WW, for making oil. Subscribed!
My critter 'appeared' to have gotten into something, Monday night and last Saturday Morning. I hate it, she gets sick!
I sort of thought a cat came in, and jumped in the tub, with my baby plants (I was unexpectedly gone overnight) and came home, to what looked like a cat trying to dig a hole and took the catnip.
Nice Grow Show and this should be interesting, what the experts and indoor growers, have to say?:rasta:

haha your comment about my dog out living me made me chuckle:D
thankfully he has a stomach of steel, the things iv 'lost' and then 'found' again is like :wtf:
they were only 1 week seedlings but it was still the same pain to see them gone :(
haha your poor critter sounds like s/he had a party n u wasnt invited :pimp: in the early days i had a knock at the door once and unfortunately, boys in blue, (who were actually quite nice about it, and seemed just as interested in the growing techniques as i was ) put my cut up choped at white widow into a big black bag :( whilst having a chat with me, my 3 month old kitten had managed to get in the bag and with that start charging round the room shredding it too pieces :D what a mess! even the stern serious ones were laughing! and who said weed didnt bring people together :hippy:
;) better get back to the serious stuff, making oils?? that sound interesting, its something i wanted to try with the blue hash as the review on the strain says it loaded with resin, nom nom! i will look forward to your posts about how its done and how it goes, im new to this site as u can probably tell with my over use of smileys :smokin: so still unsure of how it all works, with subscribing ect but il learn.
iv just flipped my girls on 12/12 now, have come off the ionic soil grow and boost and starting with sensi bloom advanced nutes part a and part b, i had good results on my last crop with this, but there seems to be mixed opinions bout these nutes?? but then as i said, im still a noob and havent had too much to compare it too, and everyones grow is always better than the last, provided no extreme accidents or animal involvement!
also looking forward to some feed back as well, i hear some strains respond better to different techniques than others ect, and no matter how smart you think u are there is always someone smarter. will post pics of the blue widow every couple of weeks to show the progression of growth, and if its slow maybe some pointers to help  getting a bit excited too as the cold weather has set here so im hoping for some extreme colours from the blue widow and blue hash, so should make for a beautiful plant.
fingers crossed

hey all and to any one thats reading and interested
ok, so i was gonna update every two weeks... but after today events i thought i would post pics and update as i have had to undergo some serious plant management, due to the arrangement of my girls and the blue widow being a couple weeks older, light was becoming an issue for the smaller 3, (i say issue, they prob would have been fine but i want all my babies getting maximum lumins) and with varying flowering time i needed to come up with a sequence of variation in position from the light. having a towering bush makes this difficult, i toyed with the idea of raising the smaller ones but impractical for feeds and moving.
im a fan of lst, (id rather have a bush than a Christmas tree, personal choice, open mind and each to there own) i did some more research on lst and there was mixed results with 'lst whilst in flower' but the overall general impression i felt was that if its within the first couple of weeks its not going to massively affect your yield, its true all the hormones start changing pretty much that same night of its first 12/12 but with usually 8 weeks or more of flowering any stress very early on provided not massive is seen as 'you shouldnt but acceptable' and most recover well, sometimes better.
sooo... heres what i didAttachment 288327 Attachment 288328Attachment 288329Attachment 288330
i took these today, DAY 4 OF FLOWER. you can see i really went to town on her and although she looks a sorry mess of her former self, i want all 4 to be managable due to room size, i think she will recover nicely tho. this has sorta become my grow show now, so i will include updates on my delicious seeds critical jack, dinafem blue hash and x line (female seeds, i dont get it either?) white widow x big bud<seed supplier didnt have much info but 6 to 8 weeks flower :smokin: i topped the critical jack today too as she will be one of the last girls left and i dont want her getting too big, she had 2 weeks in veg.
as of today the only thing i will be changing is the position of the plants weekly to maximize light exposure.
this is my 3rd grow so still a noob< but looking forward to the transition to hydro in the new year.
any feedback good or bad greatly appreciated

topped blue widow by dog update with lst!
just thought i would post a 24 hour update,
all the branches that were flat from the lst on the blue widow have already turned up to face the light  so with another 8 weeks minimum 12/12 hopefully should get some nice resin filled nugs
the topped critical jack has also seen growth in the leaves and side branches, the last set of fan leaves doesnt seem to av slowed down rate of growth! have grown the sister strain jack Hera and she was a delight, no sleep issues or anxiety, (loong flower cycle tho) cannot wait to cure and taste.
ww x bb i have left, i cant find too much info on her so i think i will be good to see her characteristics un-touched, if she is nice and tasty n does the job, then maybe some type of training next time to compare against
blue hash im being cautious with, iv read she can get up to 3 metres outside! and is like a giant long single bud? i dont think she will get 3m but im slightly concerned she will tower over the rest. in a couple days i will check the rate of growth and make a decision if i should try and 'attempt' to fim her? she has an 8-12 flowering cycle so this early on it shouldn't cause too much stress
Attachment 288349Attachment 288350Attachment 288351
havent really said much too about my set up, hence the light pic ha and my dog which is responsible for all my hassles! :D
lighting: vegged from seedling on 400w hps at double the specified distance, they say 12" from the top of ur plant to bulb, i had 24". (did this for the 1st week) i changed to the sun master super dulex 600w in the last week of veg, and intend to keep through out the flowering period, its an extra 10% extra light pushing my lumins up to 95000
air flow: slightly open window bout 2" with a thick curtain. 16" rotating fan- no cabon filter, luckily enough not to need one, with that there was definitely i change in the air when i checked today- a smell that makes u smile
growing medium im a noob so im still unsure of what to use and whats best?? i used potting mix for the seedlings to which i mixed with all purpose compost for there final pots- im not sure what size they are? just the biggest ones i could find, more roots more shoots.
nutes at day 12 i used ionic grow for soil and ionic boost, i flush with tap water in the 1st week of flower and then use sensi bloom advanced nutes part a and b, final flush is tap water again
temps range between 24-27 degrees n 10-12 degrees at night< thinking maybe a heat mat, i do not want them turning hermie!
fingers crossed

quick update, a few bits have changed. there now in my old 1x1x2 tent as the cold has set here! my lowest temp was 9 degrees the other night and i think they are taking a day or two to recover. dont want that happening again so iv moved location of the grow and on to warmer airs :) yesterday was week 1 for flower, there are already visual signs effect taking effect, longer pistols and the heads look like there on the turn, another 5/7 days and then were really cooking,
critical jack is taking longer to show signs of flower but the she can have up to a 14 week flowering cycle being dominatly sativa! and i have a feeling she is gonna do exactly that! will post some pics on week 2 of flower to show the rate of growth progression and flower changes, by then they should all be well on her way to forming flowerss

putting up some pics of the 1st week of flower-will update weekly..so far so good :)
white widow x big bud: again not really a lot of info on her so am just gonna leave her be and see what happens, she is the shortest out of the 4 but by far the most denseAttachment 288433Attachment 288434
critical jack: recovering from the 'top' couple more days and rate of growth should increase, two new side branches are stepping up nicely. she will be the last girl standing

blue widow: (re cap- topped by my dog at 1 week back to her 1st true leaf) due to her training i was able to pull all her fan leaves into the middle, i guess just making a solar panel of sorts, she too is also a very dark green, towards the end of flower i will attempt to lower the temp to bring on her colours, :cool:Attachment 288444

just a quick update
having some issues with the fan leaves blocking the light so i have pushed all the fan leaves underneath the branches below thus exposing the undergrowth, they look happy'r already :) still only a week and a half into flower and not much visual change yet. wwxbb has seen the most change she has the longest pistols out of the 4 and i only realized yesterday that for the 1st week my light times was 11 off 13 on, now on 12/12 hopefully the extra hour will kickstart the process a bit quicker.
have also released the lst on the blue widow, i feel iv trained her stems enough now and with her current shape she is getting max light.
visual note: the blue widow doesnt have reach the sun leaves at first, they grow so big and fast right at the top, its like the tip cant support it so they sorta just hang, its only when she gets taller and the stem thicken out that the reach out-even then she looks like she might be struggling, no sign of stress as of yet
infact every leaf is a very dark green, even the jack which is the palest looks dark! lol if u know what i mean. no yellowing as of yet even on the 1st single true leaf all but the bw, (i was late in ordering my nutes) she lost both her 1st true leaves but that has been it.
temps is 28d< d? i used this before and i think i might av them mixed up? i believe its 28c? please excuse the school boy error if u come across it in some of my earlier posts!
and my night is 14.6 c, gonna try and keep her there! i really wanna see the 'blues' colours so fingers crossed.

Hey buddy, nice log! I'm just starting one also, check it out!
I use flora series nutes with some non-nitrogen additives and I have never had any yellowing to speak of. I tried chopping the bottom of the bush this time. We'll see if it helps!
I always top my cuttings very early. This is automatic after 1 week vegging. If the stem is too tight, FIM! I don't top seedlings at all because i dont want to stress them until they show sex. Also the cuttings are less stressed. What do u think about topping affecting yield?
-
topped blue widow by dog update with lst!
:thumbsup:higher than you,
You may want to get some sort of supports for your, soon to be dank and ;)heavy nugs! Those plants look like they are going to yield some buds that the plant is going to have a bit of trouble supporting.
I am not sure I saw what kind of nutes you are using...sure nice looking plants! OMG, if the size of those plants are an indication of the potential size of buds, you are going to be budded encouragingly.
Nice grow show, loving it! pr
Oh and how is your pet?
-
topped blue widow by dog update with lst!
hey kest
thanks for dropping in buddy, im glad u like what you see
i had a quick sneak at ur log and 1st most, i must congratulate you on the training of your cat! lol maybe u could have a word with my dog some time!
secondly, a  on your grow, yours girls are looking very healthy and happy! with regards to only yielding 3+ oz per plant, thats not a bad for an indoor grow, trust iv seen worse, and also, different strains different yields :) ill be honest with you, with regards to your set up you have a lot more going on and look a lot more advanced in your growing journey than i, im still a noob on my 3rd proper grow, my last grow i had a jack hera in soil that came in at 623g after crop which i thought was pretty good considering.
i top about a week and a half in, i veg from seed on a 400 hps and its usually on the 3rd or 4th node depending how quick she is growing, also unfortunately iv never had experience with cuttings or with trying to determine sex of my own plants, i grow all mine from feminized seeds, i think as time goes on i will be looking into it, there seems to be a lot of benefits and advantages to this style that i would like to explore. in fact i want to explore every style but all in due coarse.. gta walk before i can run lol, i find that with lst and topping i have increased my yields compared to that of just leaving her and trimming, keep an eye on the log, iv topped one, lstd one and left the other 2. i seen u have chopped the bottom off yours (lollypoping i think) in week 5 of flower, from what iv read theres a lot of mixed feelings bout doing anything to your plants whilst in flower with regards to topping chopping and pruning ect, have you done this before? and did you notice any slow growth or even the opposite? i try to keep any training to the veg stage, although this time i fiddled about in the 1st week, but have seen slower recovery than usual, i guess from the less hours of light? will be checkin in your grow see how how ur ladies get on, i see u slide towards the sativa..
pr  how are you? all good i hope!
thank you for your kind words, and your sound advice. i will defo be buying some stakes, i have wondered about this tho? do the not damage the roots? is there another method? i have nothing i can tie above either and the last thing i want is broken branches and damaged nugs. bear is gettin bigger along with the plants lol hope to see you at the very end.
oh and kest, if u want big yields, try a 3 month veg, im planning on it in due coarse..
nearly forgot, my nutes for veg are ionic grow, soil. ionic boost. iv waited the two weeks in the past but find with 400w at week two i already have signs of nute def, first feed with the 1st top, for flower i use sensi bloom advanced nute part a and part b with the ionic boost, i dont half my nute mix, i feed em what is says on tin ;)

632 grams!!! That's 20+ ounces, bruddah! How many plants??????????
-
topped blue widow by dog update with lst!
I put the stakes in when I transplant into the largest container. That way, the roots grow around it. If you haven't added stakes, you can try yo-yo's (its fishing line on a retractable spool with a plastic hook) hanging from the ceiling or your light. You can also tie your colas together. Attach a string loosely to the plant's base and spiral it upwards around the biggest stems. When you get to the top, gently pull at a 45 degree or so angle, and the string will tighten around the plant. Then tie the string to itself or the light, or a stake etc., adjust a few uncooperative leaves, and the plant will acclimate itself in a couple days. Be careful you don't pull too hard and break the stem.
The leaves I trimmed on the week 5 flowering plants would have been trimmed eventually anyways since they would've developed splotches due to light deficiency, so I figured I'd pull 'em early, see what happens.
Imo, the point of cuttings is this:
Say you get a bag of five seeds. You sprout 'em all. They all grow equally in veg. You take 2 cuttings of each before putting them into flower. One of the plants seems to produce more trichomes but stretches. Another is bushier but yields less. One of the five, however, is twice as potent as the others, hardly stretches at all, and gives solid yield. That cutting you keep, the rest you toss. Now you know exactly how each and every plant you have will react to nutrients, temperature, stress, etc. For example, I kept this 'phenotype' of Zensation because of it's pain-relieving qualities and excellent bag appeal. I kept this pheno of Carnival because the f'n spider mites run away from it dude, I sh*t you not! I am tossing this black cherry because though it's the diggy, it has a tendency to make a few seeds :(

Looks like things are going great for you. congrats man. I would love to top a few of mine and strip a bunch of leaves also. but this is my first grow although I'm confident it wont kill the girls I'm not sure if it will be negative to flower production. I'm still only a dew days into flower and have been trying to decide quickly. Still haven't but I know one of these days I'm likely going to start chopping and hope for the best. Your plants look great and I love the visual practicality of the way you've got it spread out with all the impotent parts accessing the light better. It just makes a lot of sense to keep her vertically condensed especially given how fast lumen depreciate over distance. I have some that are no more then 8" wide but are approaching the 2 foot mark for height. I have lots of height in my situation but It just don't look efficient to me.
Any way. Keep on given-er dude! I'm fallowing you along for the ride.

632 was off 2 jack H and a purple haze mate, veg was 4 and a half weeks tho, again i was practicing so top'd and lst'd and pretty much super cropped every branch lol, same nute mix. best nug was 42g  but even the side branches due to lst were between 20-30g. dont think i will hit that this crop tho as the smaller 3 only had 2 weeks veg but we will see..this will be my 1st grow where iv left 2 of them alone, guess just finding out what i get on with.. which brings me to your very helpful and informative post :) i like the idea of being already started and being able to chose the phenoy ;) especially if she is top grade. unfortunately i only have the one space, wheels are already in motion on a bigger area in the new year. lol with regards to ur spidermites, iv been luckly enough not to av come across them? do we even get them in the uk? try and find some ladybirds? there ment to be awesome for little pests
JB  thanks man, fingers crossed!
by the sounds of it you have more than one? if your in the 1st week maybe an experiment seeing as this is your 1st grow? not sure what strains you have but if you have any 8-12 weeks flower cycle then maybe top and prune one now and compare it too the untouched one at the end, then use it on the next one and so forth, theres so many techniques it will take a while lol but thats half of the fun. i am a fan of lst, i too also like the idea of all the tops getting equal light and with only having one overhead light i find it easier to achieve this way, (advise to do that in the veg stage tho)- saying that i think a scrog set up might be on the cards next time if im feeling dangerous lol.
good to have you on board bro looking forward to hearing of your success, be good to see how you get on. peace

thanks. yes there are... lets just say lots! but I only have space in flower room for maybe 24 extreme max!.(that's 12" pots 3 roes x 6 roes) I have a 1000w on a 6 foot light mover. I may get a 3' extension but would rather not. Some of them are 2' tall already and some are only a foot tall! I'm so screwed! And I've got ones in veg that are about a foot tall also! I accounted for a 50% mails and so far its more like 2%. And my dumb ass friend just kept showing up germinated seeds with any regards for timing at all! Any way I've got the a little over 8' of height to work with but not much for floor space. the really tall ones i striped every fan leaf of of them yesterday. But should I fim them too? will that slow the stretching down? I'm stressing about this. I'm a bit of a control freak and this is putting me way out of my comfort zone. But their is a small voice in my head saying "screw it! what ever happens happens"
Love your Einstein quote by the way!

Oops. I mean 3 roes of 6 would be my preferred max. But I can cram 4 staggered roes of 6 or 7 if I have to.

h_t_y, sry to reply to another post on your thread but...
JB-you should not FIM your plants unless they have at least a week to recover in veg before transition. If you must, FIM will slow stretch, but hurt quality and yield at this point, and it will increase the likelihood of hermies. I would just super crop...
IMOO, I would break every branch about halfway down and bend them outward to even out the garden profile. Don't mess with tops during transition at all. Once all the budding sites have formed, the stretch will begin to slow. If you aren't familiar, there's lotsa stuff on youtube about supercropping.
Don't say 'Screw it!'! Give peace a chance!
-

yo kest
not a problem dude, its what 'this' is all about  wise words
JB i too would not suggest a fim in flower, strictly veg due to longer recovery time, maybe a top in the 1st week if u really have to, also dont go too mad on the leaf stripping, they need a certain amount to be able to keep there chemical balance, u take too much u could make her think she wont make enough energy to create the nugs and will focus on making remaking them. i hear u with the height issues tho, iv had to put my ww x bb on a bucket as she is staying short- i load up some pics lol im late on my update anyway! due to the nature of ur set up, scrog sounds good for you too? there a thing called a vertical scrog, might suit u better
peace is the way forward

Attachment 288678
blue hash. had to super crop her as she is the tallest and she just didnt wanna slow down, i could for see light issues in a few weeks and rather than stress her then i decided now would probably be best and really my last chance to fiddle
critical jack is filling out nicely, she looks like she is about a week behind the BW in visual stages but to be expected but if she is anything like her sister JH she will be worth the wait
brings me to my wwxbb..:wtf:
now the only reason i decided to choose her was because of her quick flower cycle, she still looks exactly the same as last week? staying short and stocky and maybe a little pistol growth- i did some research and seems with this brand its hit or miss, i read that that one chap had 10 seeds, popped em and in the end had to throw away 6 as 4 hermied and two stayed short and after 3 weeks into flower there wasnt much signs of change- the other 4 on the other hand were amazing and no problems.. i got the vibe there was a problem with her genetics- very prone to becoming hermi which worrys me, not had experience with hermies before? i know im looking for a pair of balls but untill iv actually seen it on a plant i just seem to be over analyzing on her but due to this she is defo female, for the moment lol

quick update,
most of my focus atm is on the short stumpy wwxbb.
still no height growth that i can notice, defiantly filling out due to the trim tho (as if she wasnt full enough :wtf: like serious, she has more growth going on and more potential bud spots than the blue hash and literary half the size) her top is on the change too, which is a big relief:cool: espec after reading bout them prone to turning hermi! seems my phenoy is just very short and compact. she looks healthy tho, reaching leaves and no signs of deficiency.
critical jack is looking good, shes been inter-nodeing for about a week and u can start to tell the shape she is gonna take, that being a seductive sexy one! (on the quiet i think she will produce the most, but will be tight against the blue widow) she has already at the same height as the bw and gaining quickly on the blue hash due to the super crop.
blue hash. wish id did some training- she is looking healthy tho but im 9 branches high before from what i can make out will be my main nug, and she is tall already. iv never left one to do its thing before so i cant compare to any other personal experience but iv already got the vibe that im defiantly a tweaker. she looks like she would benefit from scrog or lst. well on her way to forming nugs tho, and if her growth says as vigorous as it has been then im still excited.
blue widow. getting taller but at a slower rate than the others, i think she is just focused on making nugs coz i swear every time i look at her there fatter ;) did a bit of research on the flowering times and the seed company state between 8-12w, thats quite a broad time scale, im guessing there allowing for the white widow in her, looking at other grow logs tho 50 to 60 days is the norm. her colour is amazing a real purple tint, visually stunning.
just a few notes. i started these in the boi-cups that u place in the soil already so there was no pot transferring, my pots are round, 14"deep by 13"wide inside. i know they say more roots more shoots but from what i can remember i was having better results with 14" deep 10" wide square pots. maybe less soil means more watering due to it drying out quicker thus feeding it more, my last girls i was feeding a litre in the morning and another half at night. i find myself giving these girls 1.5 litre every 3 days due to pot size but its still early doors yet, ill come back to this near the end and see how i feel then.. ill probably find in a few weeks i will need more than 1.5l before it runs through.
peace

Hey buddy. I have heard a million things about trimming. I guess you trim the fan leaves that are in the center of the plant? I usually just trim the bottom of the plant. I have never really trimmed fan leaves. What has your experience been with the trimming? Thanks.
BTW, I'm glad your BW is turning. I'm starting BlueOG and can't wait for the color change!
If I missed it, just refer me there, but how about some more setup info, like lighting and nutes?
My disclaimer is Genesis 9:3. Know that! lol

yo man. im not a fan of trimming fan leaves either, and usually try not too.. iv tucked the Blue Hash leaves in tight under her branches below as with the CJ but the wwxbb is just too compact too do this, i was getting water collecting between leaves and i didn't want mould, her bottom fan leaves are furthest from the plant and getting good light and still healthy, due to the nature of her growth it was more beneficial to take from the middle, her first two branches are as thick as the main stem! its sorta of growing like a trident with the main stem only being an inch taller but overall about 14" high?? she is deffinatly a rare one causing me to break the 'rules' lol.
nutes:
veg: ionic soil 'grow' with ionic boost for veg at stated dosage
flower: sensi advanced nutrients part A and part B- been using rain water instead of tap when i can. also at stated dosage and maintain boost till flush
lights:
400w hps from seedlings and i bought a sun master super dulex for flower which is about 95000 lumins, my lumin reader is off the scale on the lowest branches and thats at 2000l, very pleased with it.
blue og huh? thats sounds interesting, iv heard of but none done any research, will be good to see her in action;) and kest forgive my ignorance but the genisis 9.3 is something i will have to google :wtf: lol peace brotha
