my closet grow..

OK. I'm new here I just started my first closet grow room. I will get pics up when I can. but let me start by telling you where I am at now and and I hope you guys can help me get to where I would like to be.


I'll start with why. My wife has serious migraine head aches and I have back problems we have been to the doctors and taken all the opiates and other prescribed drugs with no good results. we started using pot and it was like a god send. it clears her head aches out in a matter of minutes and takes care of my back pain quick with out the bad affects of the opiates. I am X- Mormon so taking drugs is ,well was foreign to me and i still don't like doing it but! it actually works. I don't want to deal with dealers and I want control over what I'm using and by growing i also have the ability to have verity.

here is my plan: I don't want to grow more than one plant at a time. (I wont have more than one at a time) it is for personal use only. My state has legalized it but it has a few hiccups in there there plan so it is being ironed out. I'm not looking to grow a mother plant yet because like I said earlier I want to grow verity for a while and see what I like. So I will purchase different seeds from different strains until I know what I like than I will work on perfecting the growth of that strand.

what i have now: I have 2 plants growing as we speak...yes I know it go's agents what I said about having only 1 at a time BUT!!!! I got the seeds from 2 separate bud purchases and I don't know if they are female or male they may both turn out to be mail's and they may both need to be scrapped i don't know yet! I am starting with these in order to get my room started and work out any possible kinks before I start growing expensive seeds. I sprouted them in a wet cloth than transferred them to potting soil where they grew for 4 weeks before moving them to the larger pots and putting them in the closet.

grow room specs so far: this room is 3'x3' at this point the plants are 6" tall and look to be from different strains... At this point the closet is lined with aluminum foil on all sides I have a small fan with a co2 generator that I built I will use it for a while than switch to a tank. I have 2 lights in there rite now one is a 100w 2500 lumen bulb the other is a UVA, UVB light the largest one I could find the lights are set on a timer rite now they get about 10 hours of light.

I have not set up ventilation yet but I will. suggestions on CFM for a room 3'x3'x7' I will be ordering my carbon filter & fans next week so input on CFM would help in that decision.

I am growing in soil only for at least the first year and what I'm having trouble with is nutrients i have researched read and watched for days and the nutrients are what confuse me. There are so many diffrent opinions out there on the subject.

-so opinions on lighting what types of bulbs how many and where to get them? (do i have the right ones now?)
-CFM for the ventilation
-help clear up nutrients
-any other suggestions

I would get rid of the UVA/B lights, along with the 100W 2500lm light. It seems like you have a very inefficient light setup. For such a small place like that, I'd recommend a good fluorescent setup or a small HID setup. This all depends on how deep you want to go with this. Ventilation will definitely be needed, and will be dependent on what kind of lighting you use. Also, did you want to filter the smell or is security not a problem for you?

As for nutrients, try to go organic, or make your own teas. nothing beats the aroma and taste of organic cannabis.

Other suggestions I recommend is to ditch the aluminum foil and get yourself some proper White/Black plastic sheeting, or Mylar. Foil tends to create hot spots even if it's applied "correctly" and Mylar does the job of reflecting light better.

Well as far as how deep do I want to go. What ever takes to produce the best I can produce.

-I was planing on complete organic. So lets start there with the nutrients.

- I do need to hide the smell. I have been looking into the carbon exhaust filters.

- I was looking for the white plastic but could not find it where do you get it.. low's, hone depot, ace,?

the 100wat light is florescent CFL forgot to mention that.. just for my info why not use the UVA, UVB?

-What wattage/ lumen should i be trying to get to for one plant at a time

If the 100W is a CFL then that's good. But that's a very low lumen count for the 100W CFL to be producing.

I've looked into UVA and UVB, and it doesn't seem to really be great, especially when the primary light source is not very high. You can replace the UVA/b light with another fluorescent and have more light for the plants to be using more efficiently.

You can find thin Mylar at Canadian tire. It's listed as an "Emergency Blanket" and it's very nice for reflecting light. It's not very thick though...

For one plant at a time, the 100W CFL seems adequate enough. I think you should go with a simple grow and bloom organic line, not making it too complicated.

in the photo above you can see the leave look ripply... only on this plant is it normal

Is it only on that one leaf? If it's widespread, then I'd start to worry. If it's only that leaf, just be checking out other leaves in the next few days/week to check if it's spreading.

Your plant looks nice , it looks like you topped it. If you want to grow premium bud and don't care about energy bills and cost then get hid lights. I use cfl just to be cheap, they are cheap but you can get a 250 watt mh/hps system for less then a hundred bucks.
Fox farms soil is organic and really good. UV lights can kill weed, I read that somewhere. Blacklights especially. Theres a guide I went by to count lumens per square foot. It's probably on here. I went way over , to make my bud excellent. I use 12 cfl's in flower for max lumens. You can use a car windshield reflector , the shiny side is mylar.

12 cfls for 2 plants should be enough or buy a 250 w mh/ hps system from amazon. look under my name for my grows. I'm only growing 2 also.

Any suggestions of what it may be would be nice so that I can educate my self on what to look for.
Or what could possibly affect my plant.. the temp in the room is about 80 the humidity is around 60%..

this is #2 what are these spots on the leafs if its bugs how do i get rid of them

I use the brand name garden safe neem oil extract works great and u can apply this organic pesticide till the day of harvest. Add 5 ml of neem with 3 ml of soap on a spray bottle and spray them vigorously do this every 22 days till bugs or insects die out that's wut I use

I have looked for neem oil but could not find it. do you think lowes would have it?

I do have ... Safer brand, organic gardening insect killing soap... ACTIVE INGREDIENT potassium salt of fatty acid

I have some bonide liquid plant food. it has nitrogen 10% 3% ammoniacal nitrogen, 7%urea nitrogen, phosphate 10%, soluble potash 10%

Ok it has been a week or so and here is what i have been up to. I changed the soil to a 50% cow manure 50% compost mix. I put about 1" if sand over that and I have been spraying them with neem oil once a week I have been working on a new light system I'll have pics in a bit. I took some sheet aluminum to my metal bender and made my self a lamp using 2 300 watt cfl's I put together a ventilation system but have not installed it quite yet. I'll have pics of that as well.

I don't have a great source of CO2 yet I have been flooding the room once day with baking soda and vinaigre. I'm sure that's not the most efficient way. I will get a tank as soon as I can and pictures.
