So you've got a lot of experience growing indoors... Well I have a question. Who the hell invented spider mites? And where can I find that individual? I'd like to have a peaceful conversation with them....

Good to see ya made it! I'm growin' Big Bud and SK#1... What would happen if I cross the two? The skunk is pure.. The BB is a cross. 75% indica and 25 percent sativa... Would I get hermies or would it just be a shitty 5 way cross? Curious..

I know almost nothing about cross breeding strains. I'd be curious to know how you can predict the characteristics of a cross you plan to attempt, if you even can predict it. I guess I don't even know where to start asking questions about it so any info anyone can give me would be great. I'm a long ways away from attempting to cross strains but no harm in learning about it for now.
As for the meeting with the inventor of spider mites... I've been working on an opposite-shrink ray. So I can enlarge the next spider mite I find and challenge him to a fair fight. Hand to hand combat, winner controls my grow rooms, loser never comes back. I think it sounds like a good idea... what could possibly go wrong with enlarging a spidermite to human size?
-
im glad to be of assistance
well minnsnowta iv learned that if you do have spider mites then you should run your tempratures lower around 65 in your room to slow the reproduction rate of the nasty little guys then use your mighty wash or a little seceret is peppermint oil and roasmarry seed oil the mights hate it. you dilute a few drops per litter......

and sorry ga i am not to familliar with breeding plants allthough i would figure it would make a hermi but you never know cause some hermys will have really nice colas but all the bottom buds will be full of seeds like this white widow i had to take down a week or 2 early so no flush:(
but do what you feel will be best for you remember "dont fix it if its not broke" i love bb and skunk

I did have a little outbreak for a couple days but since then I have pretty much gotten rid of them. Every couple days I can find one that somehow survived my attacks by hiding somewhere. I'd say I have them under control, they were only on one plant and that plant wasn't touching any others so I haven't found them on anything else. I also removed all the eggs that I could find, so I don't think anymore are hatching as long as I continue to maintain my strategy. Eventually they'll be gone without a trace but since I know they were there, they won't have a chance to surprise me by multiplying. Good news is they were on a plant in veg mode so they didn't get to work their way into any flowers.

well thats good.... another thing to help maintain the spider mites would be soldier bugs they are the spider mite preditor the multiply 2x as fast and eat queens and eggs

Well how2... I thank ya for the input! For real..Thats why I asked.. If ya don't know? Ask! Right? I'd sure hate to know I was growin' hermie's! That shit would make me kill a whole plant! Who needs seeds in bud for anyway? Beats me!

for real ga i was checking colas on this white widow i grew from seed and rounding the corner of week nine in flowering i decide to check it out...... so i did and all the branch colas that werent mains had the fattest pistles i had every seen it looked like some grin spoon growing like in strains.... but they looked reallly good.... so once again i had to cut a plant early..... it harvested allright though like 4 coat hangers full.... and i gusse now that i have a whole bunch of seedy undergrowth it will be time to make some hash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 oh yea

I thought we were talkin' bout seeds... Not pistils... I want pistils all over my buds! The whole plant can get pistilized!

Thanks Howtogrow.
I think I'll be taking your offer of advice up on some issues I will be experiencing (no doubt)
I have started my first proper attempt at growing (had 2 grows in Germany). Had a magnesium deficiency since last week or so. Tried Epsom salts to fix it.
I grow mainly with LED and I use 4 x 20w CFL just to heat the tent. I keep them close to make use of the small amount of light.
You can check out my grow journal here: LED Logger
Any advice would be good. I made a few mistakes on this grow already. I bloomed from seed in week 5 which was much too late. the veg power of the LED is amazing.
The plants became too tall, even after super cropping them. Ill bloom in week 2.5 or 3 next time. It will need it to keep them short. I have a 90 x 90cm floor space so I'd like to try 9 plants in SOG. When do you think is good to turn to 12/12 for SOG ? Should I count 3 nodes or what ? You can see how big my plants became after just 3 weeks under the pro-grow LED. Could you give me a round about time to bloom for my next grow ? I have cuttings so height is what Ill go by, not age. SOG seems to be the way to go.
Take care.

thoose bulbs do produce a mean veg because of the spectrum they run..... i would only veg with thoose then when u switch to 18hrs of light give them an hps to really make them explode for last few weeks of veg then when u want to switch em to 12hrs of light and you will have a massive yeild

You do realize that you can go from bean to harvest with an HPS.. How many lumens would that make those 4- 20 watt cfl's? Is the kelvin rating gonna conflict with the mean lumens? Or will each one of them weigh eachother out and end up equal?

Incase you overlook my thread I just started I figured I'd post a comment with a link here. I am requesting some advice/recommendations on what to do with a sativa that I carelessly allowed it get too damn tall while I was working on building a new flowering room.

look at my avitar i veged with a hps on 18on and 6off and then switched into bloom and still have nive heavy thik colas it also makes your plant grow 2x faster.....just saying
-
im glad to be of assistance
No it does not make them grow any faster! Haste makes waste! I really don't know where you get your info from.. Thats one book I don't wanna read! I've been doing this for longer than 18 years.. Not tryin' to come off the wrong way... But please think a little bit before you put yourself out there like ya doin.. You do know some things! Granted.. I give credit where credit is due... Have you even read any of my older posts or any of the other members older posts? It may had given you some type of clue as to how you would approach a certain need of someone with a question.. In dire need of help... You steer them in the wrong direction. They take any advice that sounds good.. They use the info given and things go way wrong.. It takes years to even be able to suggest a soil for someone else to use.. Much less a nute schedule and a certain type of nute.. Every strain is different! I have other nutes that are for other strains.. I know how to use them in my situation. That don't mean it would be the right one for them in their situation!.. Please don't take me wrong!! I'm tryin' to help you now! Just sayin'..

Ga, just curious what exactly you're talking about when you say...
How many lumens would that make those 4- 20 watt cfl's? Is the kelvin rating gonna conflict with the mean lumens? Or will each one of them weigh eachother out and end up equal?
Just curious what you meant about the kelvin rating conflicting with the mean lumens?

Nothing.. Noting at all... Take it out of your memory. You won't find that in a science book..just sayin.

Hey guys. Those four 20w CFLs are only in the tent to create some heat. With them the room is at a cozy 27 degrees. Without them the temp could drop to 15 degrees in there.
The main light I am running is the Pro-Grow 260. As far as LED goes this light really does a good job. Massive growth and the bloom isnt bad either as you can see from my grow journal.
The lumens produced by the 4 x 20w CFL is not worth talking about. I simply needed some heat in the tent so why not heat it with light ?
I'm trying to do a full grow with the Pro-Grow 260 as a test but I wonder would a 400w HPS be nice for the last 3 weeks of bloom.... Hmmm... Just for that last kick...
That has me thinking alright...

yea ty ga for your input and knowledge i however only say things and tell people to do stuff if it will actually work.... im just telling every one how i grew mine when i did and they turned out amazing.... and i look at books to be more allong the lines of guid lines and you should grow how you feel is the best way for your plants... i was always told by a old grower less is more........ he dont use c02 or any other 12 prt nuet set up just ionic and a 100xhps for veg and bloom and still comes out on top of any other grower ive seen...... i gusse ill have to check out your old posts because not to sound like a ass or anything but if they look better than what im doing ill take your advice but if its not broke why waste time and money to fix it????

J can't do it anymore, that dude wasn't using co2 nd his grow is coming out better than anyone? Idk about that one... Less is more, I believe in certian situations or with certian strains that might be the case. I'm not trying to he rude here yo, but I've tasted weed grown with the "less is more" attitude, nd it wasnt all that great. Some strains, like I said might thrive nd flourish in those conditions. But I personally believe that if u put the time nd the right nutrients nd b carefull and attentive, then u will be more in tune with ur plants... Nd they will be more in tuned with u. Growing is an experiance where u are always learning and things are always changing..
Learn from others so others can learn from u...

Your more than welcome to had gained from anything I have as input! My knowledge,however... Is something that has been aquired by trial and error.. Hence the term "Experience"...
You told me that the cross of the two strains would hermie... From my ventures.. I've learned that hermies come from stress and shitty genetics... 9 outta 10 it's the growers fault.. Heat, light leaks amongst other issues! There are so many variables.. Only the grower can prevent this from happening.
First I would get an SK1 male and backcross it to the BB.. I would'nt take a female SK1 and cross it to a male BB.. When all this breeding of these millions of strains came around.. SK1 was the founding plant that structured most of the old school strains in one form or fashion.. Whether it be 50% or a very small amount of the strain. It's there! Unless it's a pure indica or sativa.
I've had the same mothers for several years at a time.. This year is refresh the mama year.. Which I did by air layering..It's not a cutting or a clone either.. It's an establihed plant from the get go! That takes some practice! No lie..
I read all those books that tell ya this and that.. But the best book out there for cannabis cultivation,is a book called Marijuana Botany... If ya read one? Read that one! It's AWESOME! I do think you use the info read in those books a gospel.. Until you've done otherwise.. Then thats your mindset.. Not gonna change until you have experienced the worst of the readings.Thats where knowledge comes from! Wisdom is along way away!
When that Old School Grower told ya less is more.. Then I'm sure he was referring to KISS method..Which is Keep It Simple Stupid.. So lemme see if I got this right... If my plants look better than yours you'd listen to me? What works for me,may not work for you!
I first and foremost, would never tell a soul to scrap a project unless I thought it to be in their best interest!
This is a discussion... Not an argument..just sayin...So chill and don't go gettin' upset..cool?

thanks for the imput any way i was looking to go to school for botany but thats all about breeding and genetic construction of the plant..... on that note.... this guy grew the best tasting strongest bud of northern lights that was the only other herb i would or any one who smoked it would compare it to the larry og kush..... and yea all he did was ionic in a flood trouft system and 1000hps.... and thats all he used and thats what made the bud that poteint...... it was weird though when you smoke it it gives you such a heavy body high that it will make you pass out.... smells like pine forst i think ga i know there are many strains of nl do you think you could help me verify which one it might be???? it grows like a sativa really tall and is a trooper. ty respect and likes to all and hopefully back

I have a question about ph level. I'm new at this. How do you know if the water is 6.5 PH? How do you test the soil for ph level?

Ga, I'm having a hard time erasing what you said from my memory.. which is funny because most things are erased without intentions of doing so... hmm...
I just thought that perhaps you were talking about different light spectrums from different bulbs causing some sort of conflict and being that I just started messing around with my light spectrums in my veg room, it got me a little bit curious. BTW I made a serious error last night and dumped the wrong water into my mother... this water was heeeeavily salted, within 10 minutes she was hurting bad but I think I fixed it... or I hope I fixed it... or I will cry.
-

Please... By all means possible! Erase it! Means nothing... How did you get heavily salted water? Unless you had a brine solution for sea monkeys.. Playin'....lol

lol sea monkeys... bout to put thoose in my buckets to make a dwc of their own and hopefull make my girls flourish... hahahahhahahahahahahaha

each strain has its own nutrient limits that are given to it by the mother and father plant. Some indica's love more nutes while some sativas are very sensitive. Every plant and phenotype has its own threshold for burning, you just have to experiment and find out what it likes. Once find that out, more is better. Growing the best marijuana can be compared to training a world class athlete. You give the the best nutrition and try and create the optimal environment for growth.
And when it comes to spider mites........you use any means possible to kills those god damn things. I still havent found a cure all that kills them completely other than harvest and bug bombing the area before you plant again.
I can say one thing though if you bash on C02 or doubt any of it benefits..........YOUVE CLEARLY NEVER USED IT!! Its amazing what it does to plant growth and yield. It allows plants to photosynthesize more and it speeds up all of the plants gorwth process's in return.

You can either get one of those piece of shit soil testers at lowes ot home depot. Ive found that theyre not accurate and only chinese pieces of god damn shit that break really easy.(sorry, i just really like chinese products ;)"
Or you can get a test kit for testing the ph of water. Next time you water, check the ph of your nutrient solution, write it down, and then water the plants. One the water has soaked all of the way down and is collecting in the saucer, test that water. that should give you a pretty good idea of what the ph of the soil is.

you can get the test strips and go by the color of strip for your water... order soil testers to geeet a betteer quality tester. 7 for soil
