I'm just taking a shot in the dark here.
It seems to me that the plants look a bit odd because the nodes are intermittent. In the veg stage you get 2 leaves, then 2 more leaves a node higher etc.
When a plant goes into bloom the nodes become intermittent. So instead of 2 leaves at a time you get one at a time. That's what gives bud sites that zigzag stem appearance.
It is quite possible that the creators of these cuttings took them from a plant that was in flower and reverted them back to the veg stage by turning the lights back to 18/6.
This would keep the intermittent leaf production. Perhaps it might begin to revert to 2 leaf veg nodes in time. I'm not sure on that as I never experienced it.
Anyway, there is my 2 cents on this matter. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong... who knows. Maybe someone else might have a definite answer. I'm just going on what I see.
Take care.

Some of my plants are symmetrical and perfect, others have no matching branches. The ones from seeds grew more symmetrical.
As long as they flower...
-
Pre98 Bubba kush Clones look funny.
That really is all that matters. Bloom bloom bloom my little babies !
Dont worry, I'm sure you won't end up with some mutant weed :)
-
Pre98 Bubba kush Clones look funny.
symmetrical branching occurs in plants grown from seed. Once the plant reaches sexual maturity you will notice that the branches then start to alternate. Some will even show pre flowers during this time, allowing you to sex before you flower. Most plants from clone will have alternating nodes it just indicates that the plant is mature(thats why you can see pre flowers)
The clone you have was subjected to 12/12 or some other sort of wierd lighting schedule that triggered flowering. It had to revert back to vegetative growth, restarting the plant. The plant will grow 1 bladed leaves, then three, then five, ect
Just as if you just sprouted a seedling and were watching it grow again. give it a few weeks and you wont even know it ever happened.
Not a mutant, just a little tarted :) If its really a pre 98 bubba you have something very special.

That has happened to me too with my clones. I am still growing the same strains (clones) and they are normal looking. I made sure that I did not take cuttings from the ones that had the second gen appearance (effect).
Raycruit: your plants will be just fine. When I saw your pics, they looked to be full second gen plants. I agree with the others that when the cuttings were taken, the plant was probably in bud cycle or the plant was hit with a weird lighting schedule. As for Bubba Kush, I have never grown it until just recently. I am running a test of a new strain called Qush. It is space queen crossed with pre 98 bubba kush. Real excited to see the end result. Got the seeds from subcool to do a test run.

A real pre 98 bubba is A+ quality smoke. smell so unique that there is no imitation for the real thing.
I would be tar and feathered in public square just in order to snag some Bubba genetics haha

I will keep some of those seeds, at least 5 of them. I have never grown the real pre-98 Bubba Kush. There are a couple of reputable growers that I know that do have it and have offered me cuttings. I just may take them up on that offer, because I keep hearing about the pre-98 BK being the whoop. I don't typically accept cuttings from others due to the possibility of contamination.
Here is a picture of the Qush package.

I have two seedlings growing now. In about 5 months, providing at least one of the two are female, I will start a thread on it and show some pics.

Ive always had good female to male ratio when it comes to subs seeds. Bubba is the only indica im really in to. Excellent for pain and insomnia while still maintaining a good head stone to complement the indica body stone. Im not going to lie though, its all about the taste and bag appeal. The guys i know that grow it refuse to give out cuttings :( Good luck with those i would love to see your results. keep me posted.
Right now ive got a full room full of jack the ripper, ace of spades, jilly bean and vortex. I carefully picked my choice male out which was anace of spades dude, really short stocky indica which im hoping holds some of the black cherry soda influence i really want. He will be going into my isolated flowering room with the a bunch of my personal strains any day now. Got my fingers crossed for something special

Which TGA strain have you found to be the most potent?
Which TGA strain do you prefer to grow the most?
I have only tried growing Querkle until now. Seedlings are doing very well to date, hoping for some super DANK in this Qush quest!

No worries, I have some strawberry cough that I had won at an event in Detroit. I was told that it is Kyle Kushman clone only strain of Strawberry Cough, which is indica dominant. I had read in several forums that it is supposed to be extinct, but there were also rumors that it was still going around. I really believe it to be the real deal after growing it. I still have it going too after three years. Just keep taking cuttings and growing it out.
Keep it going here on your Bubba K.
In subcool's test run of the Qush, he suggested to all of the testers that have pre98 bubba kush, to do a comparison between the two. Maybe we can sort of do that here between ours? I have a ways to go to catch up to yours, but I do plan to report back on the Qush for sure.
Good Luck to you.

The ace of spades is new to me, but from a potency standpoint Jack the Ripper is some serious cannabis. Almost makes me anxious sometimes if i take too big of bong rips.
The jilly is all about taste and smell, and the vortex is a very intersting looking plant but is also realllly tasty.
From a plant standpoint, the jilly and vortex are too big and bushy for my taste and the ace of spades are too indica dominant and im afraid the yield is gunna be a downside. I have a few phenos of the jack the ripper that have a shorty, but very bushy and branchy stature. No topping, no lst, or suppercrop. Just let the thing grow and it turns itself into a hedge type bush naturally.
Even with that being said, i have a place in my garden for everyone of those strains. All grade A+++++ bud.
Jack the ripper is my fav. If you read dank 2.0, subcool states the jack the ripper is a strain sums up his entire career growing cannabis. In his eyes, its the most perfect plant hes created.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I will try Jack the Ripper and also Plushberry.
The plushberry, I can't help it, i saw a couple different phenos, but one of them, the bud was pink and beautiful. I just got to try that, even if just for the looks! I think it is the prettiest looking bud I have ever seen.

They came right out of it I see. I think you'll be real happy with them, way back we grew some of the Bubba and it was KILLER...good enough that I bought some of Emerald Triangles '76 Afghan x Pre-'98 Bubba Kush which I think should be a real good producer with a kick IMO from past years grow experiences.
Please keep up with the report as I'll be following...luck to you

Okay, here they are at 4 and 5 weeks. Looking real good now. They are kind of growing slow cuz right now in my veg area the temps are running a bit cool. I am working on correcting that issue. :smokin:

As promised, here is an update on the Qush.
First thing to mention is that both plants are female! Woo Hoo!
This is the first one that was identified, the second took a couple more weeks to show herself.
Attachment 283714 Attachment 283713
Now here they are at 11 and 12 weeks, just about ready to go into the flower room. I am limited on space, so the smaller one is going to have to wait a few extra weeks, at least a month, before I can move it into the flower room. Kind of a bummer, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
The one on the left is 27" tall and the one on the right is 19". One very noticeable thing about this plant is that the stem or stalk is very thick and sturdy. Could it be that this plant is preparing to support some big beefy buds? Only time will tell, until then, we will have to wait...
Attachment 283715
The next update will be from flower stage.

Qush - Pre-98 Bubba Kush x Space Queen, test strain for TGA
Okay, here they are at the beginning of flower.
Pheno #1 is taller, more stretchy, it is 46" tall. It has a nice cherry candy smell.
Pheno #2 didn't stretch at all, the stem from bottom to top is the same thickness, it is 35" tall. this one has a kind of sweet hash smell. This one has some very large sucker leaves and is a very stocky dense plant.
Just in case they are the whoop, I took three cuttings of each pheno. they are rooted and looking good too!
These are being flowered under a 600 watt HPS. This will be my first time using a 600 HPS and also my first time running this new little closet. 3' x 4' x 8' tall, which gives me about 50 watts per square foot. So far I am very impressed with the 600 watt light so far. I have been growing with 1000 watt lights the past three years. Before that I was using 400s.

here are some update pics of the Qush. I probably should have started a thread dedicated just to the Qush. Oh well, I will just have to continue to hijack this one!
Each of the two phenos that I have (tall one and short one) have a lemon candy aroma at this point.
So far, Qush appears to be a very good strain, it is easy to grow and a very sturdy plant. Subcool has released the seeds for sale. If you are lucky you will find somewhere that is not sold out!
Attachment 284593 --Attachment 284592 -- Attachment 284590 -- Attachment 284594
Just in case they are keepers, I took three cuttings from each pheno of the Qush. The Qush are in the grey pots on the right. I also took six Querkle cuttings, the orange pots on the left. I am hoping to be able to flower these twelve in my 2000 watt flower closet in the near future. I sure hope the Qush comes out smelling and tasting like lemon. It has been a long time since I have had a good lemon strain.

Update on the Qush. Getting close to harvest.
No deformities, all is looking very well. They each have a lemony citrus aroma. I am really liking the looks of the shorter one, Pheno 2. I am really hoping that is "the one" because it is shorter and more convenient to grow, and I just like the looks of it. The camera does not do it justice.
All in all Qush is a very easy plant to grow.
