Well I'm about 4-7 days out from harvest and it got me thinking that a lot of people debate about when the best time to harvest is. So here's my 2 cents and mind you that I am a very evidence based person so I only state research based "facts" and you have decide whats best for you.
What do we actually know:
We know that the head of the trichome is what carries the THC and some cannabinoids.
We know that amber trich's display CBD's which are a bi-product of degraded THC.
We know CBD's display MANY helpful medical properties, including but not limited to anti-inflammatory uses.
We know clear trichomes are not at full THC concentration.
We know peak THC concentration in a trichome is when it is milky in color.
So, if you're looking for a cerebral, energetic, up-lifting kind of high, which would be a good anti-depressant it is theorized that you should harvest when THC is at it's peak, when they are milky. If you're looking for more medicinal anti-inflammatory or pain reduction uses then it is also theorized that a late harvest, when they are +50% amber, should be sought after.

I feel like this information has been distributed many times over on this forum. Don't mean to be a dick, I just see a lot of the same threads because people don't look at existing threads before they post.

Nice pics.
I was noticing on weed wars that they were giving the percentage of CBD's.
So are the growers letting the THC degrade to make a more medicinal product?
That's pretty much proven or more of a theory?
Is anyone here doing that?
I'm thinking about my harvest coming up in a few weeks.
We kept waiting and waiting when I was helping my neighbor decide when to harvest. Finally the weather got too cold and rainy and he just pulled it up.
The book I have says increase darkness to finish blooming, a friend advocates letting the plant sit in total darkness for a day or two before harvest(can't remember exactly). So when you decide to harvest let it sit there in the dark...

I post a lot on a home recording forum. I had the same attitude that all the info you need is here, but everyone always asks the same questions. But learning is not that easy the older you get.
I bought the Rosenthal book and it has lots of information but I can't sit and read it for very long. When I get to a certain subject that is my current concern in my growing I look it up in the book though. Same with here, I don't seem to be able to dig through the archives and read past questions, I appreciate when someone points me to where the info is though.
I've come to the conclusion that a forum is for nubies to ask the same questions over and over. There can be sections for advanced topic off limits to nubies.

Tac,
I believe some CBD content is strain dependent also. The Kush family, for instance is naturally biologically high in CBD. CBD content that is naturally occurring like that is mostly found in the leave material of the plant as opposed to degraded THC. I doubt that growers who are interested in a profit will let their crop go long enough so that the THC degrades. My guess is that those growers on Weed Wars are growing strains naturally high in CBD to raise the marketability of their services.
And if kingjustin didn't want to read my post because it's been posted over and over, he could have just not clicked on the thread. Just a thought. Happy harvest.

I've also heard of those methods and I have increased the dark hour to 14 for the last few weeks. The theory behind the total darkness is, supposedly that is when resin production increases. The amount of resin produced by a plant is all based on genetics so if your doing everything properly to maximize the plants genetic potential, and that may include the darkness theory, then in my opinion it would be all for not. The amount increase would be so little it wouldn't matter unless you're looking to cut electrical costs. I haven't found much evidence proving that, probably because it hasn't been researched yet. Until cannabis is more widely accepted among the medical/political majority, I suspect that little research will be done on all aspects of the plant

I'm seeing tricombs that look pretty much like the pictures in the book. I'm having trouble with my camera, just got it and it won't focus if I use the zoom up close. I'm going to have to open the manual and see if I can get it to take a closer picture, I think somethings wrong with the camera.

KJ if your reading the same stuff over and over again is your main purpose to complain about it?? Dont like it move on.
good luck with the cameras as it takes awhile to figure what works best and what not :)

To add...
The 24 hr darkness method wouldn't even apply if the grower is doing a continous flow. Being that plants are in different stages of flowering. Unless you removed the mature females and just put them in total darkness. Which leads back to what the grower prefers.
Just putting that put there.
