STOP Spider Mites with ROSEMARY OIL: TUTORIAL!! How to extract, render and use it!

HOW TO CONTROL SPIDER MITES WITH EDIBLE ROSEMARY OIL SPRAY!


This is the correct way to control spider mites with Rosemary Oil. I have gigantic rosemary bushes outside my home offering more than a lifetime supply of it so I learned how to make this and mix it properly to get the desired effect.


Required Items:

1. Rosemary plants, trees, bushes or Rosemary Oil

2. 1 Large container of cooking oil, olive oil, or 2-4 containers of grape seed oil

3. a crock pot or possibly a double boiler

4. a small hand held fine screen colander strainer grocery store bake ware isle

5. an atomizer

6. a 1 ounce shot glass or measuring cup with 1 ounce msmts

7. Liquid Joy dish soap or another safe emulsifyer


Finding a rosemary bush:

If you don't know what a rosemary bush looks like, google image it, you or your neighbors might have one and not even know it! The plants get filled with bumble bees so look for that and tiny blue or purple and white flowers all over the bush... they make good privacy hedges and have a very STRONG odor.


Rendering the oil:

1st I grab about 10 big shoots of rosemary and strip the leaves off onto the table, you can dry it out, but you don't have to if you're in a hurry. If you hold one end of a rosemary shoot, the leaves will easily all strip off if you pinch with 2 fingers and slide them all the way to the end of the shoot. You want about 2-3 ounces of leaves & you can do more just make sure to cover all of it in the crock pot with oil in the next step. I take a crock pot, it's a ceramic pan that sits snug inside a warming case, drop the stripped rosemary leaves into the bottom of the crock pot, cover them completely with either grape seed oil or olive oil, both work well, and cook them on med to high for 3-4 hours, or low for 6-8 hours, once again if you're in a hurry you can shorten the length of time down to 1/2-2 hours on high. A lower temp and longer interval will yield a more potent oil. Simply strain the leaves out of the oil using a hand held steel fine screen colander found at any grocery store, use coffee filters in a pinch. OK, congratulations you've got your oil now! You should have as much oil as you used oil from the first step roughly. So if you poured in 60 ounces of oil, you got 60 ounces of rosemary oil now! That's enough to last a long long time!


OK here's the mix part:

When spraying this on your plants, use an electric atomizer for best coverage and effect . Take 1 ounce of rosemary oil, you should have 40-100 ounces of concentrated oil, you'll know if you did it right because it will smell like delicious rosemary. To 1 gallon of clean water. In your 1 Ounce shot glass, throw a couple of drops of Lemon Joy to emulsify and YOU MUST SHAKE THE ATOMIZER AFTER SEALING, and shake frequently during the application as well. I think using Protekt will achieve similar results. DO NOT APPLY THIS MIXTURE UNDER LIGHT, there is a small content of oil which will sheen the leaves and magnify your lights and quickly burn your leaves! Apply under light, right when they are shutting off, or in darkness.


Application:

MIX WELL! This won't work until you actually MIX the solution inside the sealed atomizer chamber!

Make sure to completely cover your plants with this stuff from the undersides especially, the signs of spider mites are little white dots and tiny creatures crawling UNDER your leaves! They love to be in the hardest to reach places of your grow so make sure to get those places especially well. Drench them, the stuff is FREE! I will take this stuff, and right out of the atomizer spray it on my hand and lick it off my hand to demonstrate to my friends how safe it is, but even though the plants transpire and quickly process the oils off the leaves, if you get crazy and get it on the panda wrap, use SIMPLE GREEN to easily remove it from that and any glass surfaces like the glass under your lights!


Frequency:

If you have an infestation right now, spray once a day for 4 days, then every other day for a week. Then twice a week for 2 weeks, and finally once a week for maintaining once all signs of live mites and their damage have stopped. Spider mites hibernate so you will see them again most likely if you don't do a weekly maintaining spray. NEVER SPRAY UNDER LIGHT! unless the light is about to turn OFF. And remember to store your rosemary oil in a cool area preferably in a glass or ceramic ramikin with a tupperware sealable top. You can cut back on the mixture to conserve oil, possible 20-30 ml per gallon, a little more than half a shot glass full per gallon, but it will not have the same effect as a good one ounce to one gallon mix.


FUN FACTS!

This stuff is completely non-toxic and EDIBLE! You can get it on your skin or on the walls. Clean Up is a little work on the elbows, otherwise, easy to manage. This spray will kill DOUBLE SPOTTED SPIDER MITES on contact! If you see tiny spider webs before you spray, make sure to look close and see the little bastards crawling along them, after you spray, the spider mites will literally be frozen DEAD on the webs, hanging there as if someone strung them up with a sweet little spider mite noose.

p.s., about the 10,000 ppms of CO2 thing, yes it works, to some degree, I've done it, but nothing kills like my spider mite spray above! I had a 95% kill rate with the CO2 gas, but it's always 100% with the rosemary spray. Eggs will continue to hatch, but the continued usage as recommended above will yield far better AND SAFER results than gassing them!

In all my years of growing cannabis I have never heard of using rosemary oil. Sorry, Neem is proven by thousands.

"Sorry"? lol. You don't need to apologize to me if you want your buds to smell and taste like neem oil. No matter what you say, neem has an awful taste and i don't want it anywhere near my buds. Now, to address the fact that you've never heard about rosemary for spider mite control in all your years of growing... you should either get out more, google it or look it up and watch the videos showing the mites strangle within seconds of contact with it. Your neem oil does it a little slower but leaves that awful neem smell and taste on your precious buds... how could you want that? Neem simply can't kill spider mites as efficiently as rosemary oil, I've used both and you have not. One other thing... your neem oil costs money, my rosemary oil is as expensive as cooking oil, olive oil or grape seed oil.

Where'd you get the recipe, what does it contain chemically, what links can you provide to back your claims...you know...what normal folks do when they post techniques, products, schedules, and insights into plant biology.

ok the site seems to be running fine now...maybe that was a routing issue before, but it's good to be back. Yeah I heard about rosemary as a treatment for spider mites originally from doing research on my own on the internet. I googled it and found several articles on people having great success with it. I realized I had all this rosemary in my yard and googled extraction for it. Then I started experimenting with various ratios of oil/water/soap = effectiveness and came up with the recipe and the method for mixing and frequency. All of this tested in my own 6k grow over the last year or so. I finally struck gold 2 months ago and decided to put something up on the web. The rosemary sprays offered in stores and online do work, but they are WAY overpriced. I tried to post a link here to a website with video showing the rosemary kill mites instantly on contact but the post was not allowed by the mod here due to a link to a site that sells stuff. So no more links from me. I don't have time to check and see if a site is selling stuff.

oh man one last thing, the you tube link was not a plea for voting of any kind... it's where I post all my grow stuff and NorCal life videos.

I'll confirm that it kills mites.
As will almost any oil. (suffocates them).
Rosemary has the advantage of strong scent.
That scent acts as a repellent for most "flyers too.

Used it once, a while back.
It worked.

Will not use it again, at least not on buds.
For the same reason I won't use Neem

The strong odor/taste of Rosemary tainted the buds and is persistent.
Call me picky, but that's just unacceptable.

I'm always skeptical, in self-defense. Comes in handy here in the cannabis forums, where wives tales and snake oils are abundant, and pimped as solid biology.

I've heard of the product, but never heard of any use in the cannabis world. And as far as using it on your ladies, as long as there's no harm, then I guess no foul... Does it kill all bugs, or just the spider mites?

what ratio were you using oil/water if you dont mind me asking? did you make the oil yourself? was it store bought? what did you use as an emulsifyer? were you using an off the shelf product or something you bought online? I have had absolutely no complaints about smell or flavor. The atomiser does produce a heavy rosemary smell in the mist, but I have had no issues with adverse affects on buds and I have sprayed day of harvest. please let me know I'm very interested in your answers.

one last thought, neem smells and tastes like crap. i know from experience. the rosemary is an all natural EDIBLE alternative, also as you said, an oil, but one used commonly in cooking recipes! I am also wondering what strain of rosemary you used, there are varieties and perhaps one is better than another for a lighter smell and taste? just throwin it out there...it's still a work in progress

But, it's a matter of taste with me as well.

I've got Italian Rosemary.
It's extremely pungent.
My mailman used to hug it in the morning so he'd "smell good all day". :D

Hmm, I do have a small phial of Rosemary oil that a friend gave me to rub on my elbows and knees for arthritis.
Prolly still have it. (was worthless for pain relief).
I'll soap some up an go try to find some mites on my ornamental peppers to annoy.

Neem is nontoxic to humans, is a natural tree product. Expensive? You must be getting ripped, as I have been using the same $9 bottle for 3 years and half is left. I only give Neem in veg, so it is all gone by the time the plant is ready to be harvested. You betcha it tastes like crap if you put in on too late. So does Nitrogen if you give that too late.

BUT I am glad to learn of an alternative. IN saying that, I will stick with my Neem, but because it is what I am used to working with and it is totally successful.....I have not had mites in 3 years and the outdoors has had huge nests the last 2 years.

This method also works with plain water if you can put you plants in a bath tub and use a shower to wash under the leaves. Be careful that the stem is fully supported because the water-logged plant will be very heavy. when you've finished just leave the plant for an hour to let the water run off and it will soon return to it's former shape. Late in flowering get a can of air-freshener because this will really stink up your bathroom.

What's happening is you are interrupting their breeding cycle.

When you wash the SMs off the plant within a few hours previously laid eggs will have hatched. The egss cannot be washed off.

SMs that are 1-2 days old are almost impossible to spot with the naked eye.

After ~3 days you can start to see them. By day 4 they are fully mature and have already laid eggs.

eggs can take between 3-10 days to hatch, some will lie dormant for much longer as a bit of long term survival insurance.

In large groups they behave as a colony and will attempt to make a web 'nest' close to the stem of the plant, otherwise they will continue in a solitary mode of eating, breeding and laying eggs until they die at around 9 days. They need to get up to a critical mass of thousands to form a colony.
