First grow, outdoor, bagseed. Help me
Ok guys, I got 26 sprouts up. Oldest are 7 days old. Some of em are 3 to 4 inches tall already. They were germed under cfl and led lights, but most are outside now in the sun. They get about 6 hrs or more of direct sunlight. I live in southern US, so I got really long, hot season. Got em in red beer cups now, some in 5 gal. Buckets, using earthgro medium. Not tryin to spend alot of money. I dont think they can be found from anyone, as they are in the middle of a half mile square of land I own, and surrounded by forrestry company pine forest for miles. Please, give me some tips or help. Ill get pics up when my phone wants to cooperate with me. Thanks guys

I also live in the south. The main thing i would worry about there is wildlife. Deer and rabbits love those plants. Also its been pretty dry down here this year so be prepared to transport alot of water that way. The best way that ive heard to keep the pots from drying out so fast is dig some holes and place the pots in them. Thats keeps the direct sunlight off the pots keeping them moist longer. Weezard says that if you get bounty dryer sheets around the base of the plant itll help to keep all the bugs and pests away. Just put a slice in the sheet and place it around the stem of the plant. That should keep ANTS away also. They are real bad around here and love to make beds in the pots. Also you might want to want to set the new seedling in the shade for a couple days and slowly advance it in more light. Its a big change from cfls to direct sunlight. So slowly work your way up or you could fry the little ones. Well good luck and keep up updated.

Another thing you might want to invest in is some Serenade. If you have a tractor supply store or farm supply store in your area its cheaper. I paid 20 bucks for a bottle but its gonna last a long time. Watch your plants real close for any pm. Especially around flower time. The humidity gets so high down here that it became a problem for me last year. If you use the serenade, just spray them weekly while they are vegging then you have a better chance of not having it during flower. Any thing you mist on the plants make sure its in the early morning or late afternoon so the droplets dont magnify the sun. Serenade isnt a cure for it but its a good preventative. Stay ahead of the game. And once again try and deer proof as best as you can haha. You probably already know this but it cant be stressed enough.......Never tell or show anyone your area no matter how much you trust them. Good luck

Yeah man, I was plannin on investin in some chicken wire n shit. We got a ton of deer down here. Serenade, its called, huh. Ill pick some up tomorrow. Soon as I can post, ill put pics up. I dont know what to do for fertilizer, on nutrients, or whatever. Anything you could suggest would be cool, man. I think mine are a lil bit streched, from what I have read on here. I dunno. I really appreciate all the help/advice.

If you wanna go cheap just get some MG from walmart for soil and fert. They have several kinds of MG nutes so just make sure you use the all purpose for veg and the bloom booster for flower. Each of the boxes of nutes will last for multiple grows. Just make sure you keep them in a dry place cause humidity and moisture will cause it to set up like a brick. They have several choices of MG soil also. I would recommend the MG organic. It cost a little more but i think its worth it. Now a lot of MG soils come with time release nutes already in them. Whether it be 4, 6, or 9 month. Its all your choice what to use. Depending on what kind you get as to how much nutes you should add every other watering. Say you get the 9 month, you shouldnt have to add nutes the whole grow unless you want to. You just kinda play it by ear. Hope this helps a little. Good luck

I hear good and bad about miracle gro. They say blue for veg and pink for flower. I dunno. Guess ill stop by tractor supply, or the co op and see what they got. Gotta check put that serenade. You said that it helps prevent mold? Thanks again man. Cant wait to get pics up. Got some workin on third set ot leafs already!

Yea the serenade is a concentrate that you mix with water and spray the plants. I personally havent had to deal with pm since i started using it. It doesnt smell that great but youre outside so who cares haha. IMO theres nothing wrong with MG. You were talking about going cheap thats why i mentioned it. You can always make your own soil. Theres all kinds of cheap soil recipes on the internet. If you make your own i would strongly recommend some dolomite lime to help with the ph. Im using FFOF but its like 30 bucks a bag around these parts but im really liking it so far. If you see a soil called Hyponex, stay away from it. It will turn grey and hard as a rock. I suppose you could get it if you wanted to patch some holes in the driveway. haha

Hahaha. I got a long, gravel driveway, so that dirt would do me NO good! I been using earthgro, and its been good so far. I got a few more bags, too, so ill probably stick to it. Its good midgrade bagseed. This is a trial for me, see how it goes and learn a bit before gettin some seeds that cost alot$. So far, I think its goin good. Thanks for the wisdom, my friend.

Hey man, got a few pics up in an album in profile if you wanna check em out. That plant broke ground 7 days ago. Does it look ok, or too stretched? From what I can tell, they look to be on schedule

It looks fine to me. Itll grow into that little bit of stretch and it could have alot to do with the strain. One thing i did notice though is it would be better for you to have one plant per pot. Nothing but problems come from having more than one in a single pot. Earthgro is ok. I used it once with some perlite and it did ok. You really cant beat 2.50 for a bag of soil haha. Another little thing i can tell you is to try and find the thinnest plastic pots that you can find. Dont ever use ceramic. Youll find that one out come transplant time. They are looking good and hopefully they will make it to harvest with no major problems. Good luck

Yeah man, earthgro went up to$2.77 a bag... Infationary times we are livin in!! All but one of the doubles was an accident. My lil puppy knocked over the pots and ate some dirt, so I wrote those seeds off n replanted new ones in the pots. Whadda ya know, they grew. I figured id let em get a lil set, then seperate em. One of em got broke off right under the clotys right after sproutin, dog again, so I just stuck it in a pot with another plant, gave it water, and its growin great! Who would have thought! Tuff lil fella. Oh, and they are all plastic pots, had to hijack some of the wifeys decorative lookin ones, cuz I ran out of containers that small. Def great advice man. Keep it commin, its all appreciated.

Sorry no post sooner... Busy days. Well, so far, I am about 10 days in, and the oldest plants are pushin out their 3rd set of leaves. Lookin really healthy, so far. Really happy with things, I think. Hop I get about 10 to 15 healthy girls outta the 26 plants. Aimin lil high, but its ok. Ill post some new pics in my album tomorrow when the sun is out. Is there anything I need to be doin now, to or for the plants? Thanks all!

Yeah, they wipe off. Looks like bug shit. I got some safe, organic insecticidal soap spray, so that should take care of it. Hope they do good, cuz I am goin to the beach for a couple days. Just give em a shot of water before I go, should do fine. I also got a light pyrethrine spray, in case the soap stuff is a flop.

Sounds like you should get it under control. Hopefully they grow like weed when youre gone:thumbsup:

Well, got home from the beach. Looks like i'm beatin the bugs, but the rabbits got me. They tore up my 2 biggest plants. Off to the store to get some deer n rabbit repeller. Other than that, they seem to be doin good. Gave em a lil shot of some fert today, see how they like that. We had some storms down here, and some of em stretched a bib cuz of the cloudiness, but they seem to be doin good. Gettin big. Hope I get lots of girls!

Quick question, how long should I wait to transplant from the cups to a 5 gal bucket? If I dump the cup in my hand, I got a decent lil bit of roots showin wrappin around the dirt. Alot of reading says about 3 weeks. This sound good?

Have you thought about progressing to that 5 gal? I like to go from cup to 1 gal to 3 gal then to whatever you want to finish with. Doing it this way, your plant will always have fresh soil. Plus if you go straight to a 5 gal theres gonna be alot of unused space for awhile which could cause problems especially with watering. The plant also seems to concentrate more on its roots rather than whats above the soil. This is just my opinion though.
Have you thought about putting chicken wire up and fence in the plants? Might help with the rabbit situation.

First grow, outdoor, bagseed. Help me
I would really like to step up sizes. The only things that are gonna stop me is the fact that my plot is almost a 1/4 mile from my house, and its walkin thru pretty thick woods to get there. More transplants means more 40 pound bags of dirt I gotta carry back there. Not to keen on that. Still gettin over surgeory. I take a bag or 2 back there every now and then, when I feel up to it. Closer to the house isnt an option. Id grow indoors, but I have kids. This is kinda a trial year for me on growin. I may try steppin up like half, and goin straight to the 5's on half. See how much difference there is. And go from there for next year. I think I might have to go with the wire to protect em. If the concentrate liquid stuff dont work. Take it out there in the fall, when its cooler, and have it for end of this year, and ready for next year. This was kind of a spur of the moment thing. Germed a ton of seeds, and wasnt really ready for all the work. Next year will ne much better. Ill be ready

Yea i hear ya. Alot of people go straight to big pots. To answer your original question... if you see roots all along the bottom of your cups, its time to transplant. I didnt realize how much work itd be when i started either. Ive only been growing a year and i still have so much to learn. I spend pretty much all my spare time on this site and a couple others trying to better each grow. Sometimes i do sometimes i dont. Its all about experimenting and finding out what works best for you.

I see what you mean about growin slower in big pots. After they sprouted in lil containers, I put the 2 biggest ones right into 5 gal buckets, now they are the smallest plants. By far. Bet they got alot of roots. I think I took care of the bug problem, with the pyrethrine. Just gotta stay on it. I wish we were gettin more sun here. Just lots of rain. The biggest ones are growin first set of 7 leafers, and lookin like they might start thinkin bout branchin out. Wish I could sex em now, so I didnt have to transplant and raise the boys. Yeah, I been readin alot, too, but it dont help as much as the experience...

Yeah, me too. I started with 26, and lost one to animals. Hell, if I end up with 10 good growin girls, ill be happy. It was some pretty good bud I got the seeds from, so we will see how it turns out with no seeds, and my amateurass behind the wheel.

Thanks man.... I been watchin your grows, too. Wish I could come indoors. Mother nature doesnt want to cooperate with me. Either no rain, or like now, too damn much. Gettin worried about overwatering. I dunno... The dirt theyre in drains really good, and when this alabama sun comes out, it comes out strong..... We shall see.

Cool man, ill go pick one up. Thanks for the tip. I just wish I could stop the rain. Not too much I can do about the water they are gettin, meybe rig up some sort of shield to cover most of the pot, to keep most of the water out, but let em still get sun. Its a long walk thru woods, and I dont make it out there every day, so I cant put a tarp over em. Also, dont wanna alert the pork choppers flyin around to any of my activities...... Thanks for the help

If you get pre ferted soil do not add any nutes or you will fry your plants, i did a grow with it and did fine. But add more ferts and you might burn em all up. The 3 month kind would be the best. Use the KISS method:)
Its up to you though.

Thanks for the help man. I didnt go with pre ferted, I went with earthgro..... Its cheap, drains really good, and seems to be workin good. I hit em with some super diluted mg blue, cuz its got high N, and everywhere says N is good for veg, so........ They seem to be doin good, so far. Im gonna check out youroutdoor grows, see if I cant pick up a few things

I did an outdoor grow my first time with just a bunch of bag seeds. I think about 25-30, about 12 were females and about 7 survived either being eaten, or other problems. Hope yours goes much better. I also had to backpack all my water out as it was in a national park.

Yeah, my goal is at least ten girls. How much did you harvest frm your 7. People are tellin me that 10 would give me like 2 pounds.
My plants are about 1/4 mile thru woods. But its my property, and my buddy has a truck, and likes offroadin, so we took 3 cases of bottled water out there to water with, along with dirt. Way better than humpin a ton of dirt n water. I hope everything goes good. Thanks for stoppin by

Well, rain stopped, and sun is out. Glad to see it! My oldest, biggest plants are startin to stink. Awesome! well, now the bad news. I dunno what happened, but some of the plants look like the new growth is burned, kinda brown and dyin. Most made a comeback and are growin new growth. 1 of em lost the whole growth node, and just has a lil stem stump growin from the last node. But the good news is that it started sprouting from every stem/leaf intersection. So, we will see. I dont know if it was the weak dose of mg blue they got, or the Bonide pyrethrine spray I hit em with. Might have sprayed a lil heavy, cuz I had some spider mites, and we kept gettin rain, and I wanted to kill tje bugs, cuz they were raping my lil babies. So, I sprayed them 4 times in a week. Is that too much? I dunno what caused the damage, but it seems to be gettin better. Might have been the mg, cuz it seems like it didnt bother the bigger ones. Guess they handled the nutes better. Well, you live n learn. Will put up some new pics soon. Gonna transplant more into 5 gal buckets tomorrow. Cant wait till I can sex em. Excited to see how many sexy girlies im gonna get...

Well, today makes a month old for a few of my oldest babies. Most of em are about a week younger. Gonna transplant the rest of em outta the red cups today. Puttin em in 2 or 2.5 gallons. That should get me thru sexin em, then toss the girls in 5's. Went out n seen em earlier. Lookin good. Few mite webs, but I cleaned em up n sprayed em. All the burned/damaged growth is healed up. It seems to have promoted some branching growth from all the nodes in the worst ones, but the tops seem to be showing new growth. Ill try to get pics wjen I transplant. All in all, seems to be goin really good!
