NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Well, I figured late is better than never. My first batch was accidentally left in the 90 degree blazing sun while I was at work, ordered more seeds, had my order returned as the smart lady at the post office gave me a US money order instead of the Canadian I asked for, sent it out again and now they're a week old. Worrying they won't be all that big, but staying on the optimistic side. I figure that keeping the deer away this year with the arsenal I have on hand they should do better anyway. Well, more pics to come. Already put 3 in the ground that survived from the first batch. 3 out of 108 HAHaha. Jus' gonna make some lemonade.

ah ncie man looks like your off to a nice start hope things work out for ya keep it up.

NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Just put them all in the ground. The three I put in the ground last week have already grown to about a foot tall. Put up coyote urine packets, took a leak, and spread my friends hair from his last haircut everywhere. Next time I think I'm gonna bring some shit tickets with me and pop a deuce. Also, dried blood and egg pellets. It's gonna smell horrible granted, but it should keep the deer away. Blitzkrieg.
-
NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
damn man you must have some really heavy deer probs up your way why not just use chicken wire ?
-
NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Yeah haha, didn't use to be a problem there. It's not actually my property, it's all farmland out there. It's pretty hidden, perfect actually, but I'm the paranoid sort and don't won't to put up fencing. Anyway, there's a deer repellant you can find at lowes in pellet form that works pretty well. It's just putrified egg solids and blood, too bad I didn't discover it until late in the season last year lol.
-
NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Cougar piss will do the trick if you can find it, they won't come near them.
-
NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Thanks, also found coyote urine in pellets in these little bags that you hang around your garden, called "Break Away". Hoping that coming at this problem with every trick I know will take care of it. Goin' blitzkrieg on some deer. If that don't work I'll just wait out there for em' with some subsonics one night and take out the lot of them.
-
NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Coyote urine sounds a little more feasable, I just read about cougar piss somewhere a long time ago but I'm not really sure if they sell it, I mean it's not like there are many cougars willing to let you "milk" em. Deer got into my brothers organic gardens and ate everything down to a nub, even raspberry bushes. They love the hell out of lettuce.
-
NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Yeah, also we have coyotes out here so they'll know to stay the f*ck away lol. The rasberry bushes are kind of surprising. I wish they'd lax the hunting laws a bit, I mean their population has gone from 1mil in ny to 10 mil in the last decade. I don't usually hunt, but it'd be nice to have less of em' around. They don't touch my grass after it starts flowering, must not taste too good but by then they've cut yield in half or more. Anyway, I'll post an update on friday when I get out there again. Peace.

Yes, one of the theories behind THC production is the taste/smell is supposed to repel predators. I think getting the male pollen to stick to the flowers is the main purpose but I've heard many critters won't eat mature buds.

Well, thanks to mister empty brain(me) there won't be any pics with this update as I forgot the camera, but they're doing good :yippee: Theres no deer damage, the seedlings I put out 2 weeks ago are already 1.5 ft tall and the northern lights I put out a week before that are 2-3ft. tall so I'm getting pretty excited. Put out more deer repellant today. The lapis mountain indica is my favorite at the moment, its leaves are like fat little maple leaves. Sorry about the pics, but 2 weeks from now they'll really be worthy of a photo. Peace out guys.

ah its cool bro i have done the same thing myself a couple of times oh well next time maybe haha.
glad your plants are doing good they will be double the size they are now in 2 weeks its hard for me to go that long with out going to check or water mine but i only have 4 plants if i had as many as you do than i could wait haha.
-
NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Haha, patience is not my strong point either. Actually I went out there and there were 10 less, but there were no signs of deer damage so I was still happy. They only had their first set of single-blade leaves when I put them out 2 weeks ago so I'll attribute it to them just being vulnerable to the heat. One has started to mutate (see thread "what is this? you prob don't know"), and then of course in a month I'll be yanking males so I'll count on about 20 making the cut. All I can say is...

NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Well I went out there on Friday and was very pleased to see that they're doing great, there was a little nibbling on 2 of the plants, but nothing too severe and they all look like they're about to explode with growth. The atomic northern lights are very branchy, bushy little buggers. Without further ado, the pics:

You need to till the soil and get rid of all those weeds, they help attract other bugs.

I'll a shot of the garden as a whole when they get bigger. Now that they're really getting their energy going with all those fat solar panels they should really take off. Four more weeks of solid veg and 2 months of flowering, I'm figuring 6-8 ft. Counted 40 this last time out there. None of them were showing any preflowers. All in all I was giddy as a schoolgirl. Put up more coyote urine and egg/blood pellets. I've got monster bloom I'm considering using starting middle of august, not that they really need it, haven't fertilized or even watered em' once. Peace guys :) tell me what you think! :yippee:

Yeah, not too worried about the bugs, though, I pull anything that is/will block sunlight, apart from that I've cleared so much for the space it's time to let the vegetation grow in a bit. We do have flyovers every year out here and it's good to let things look as natural as possible. I also avoid keeping the area too maintained so they don't stand out from everything else attracting animal attention. I remember when i was 15 actually mulching around a couple of plants I had hahaha, since then paranoia has wisened me up. Also I spray em down with neem oil as problems arise which works like a charm. Haven't needed spray yet this year.

NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Miscellaneous, bag seed, UBC Chemo, big fcking solar panel. Yes, I did some weeding after the photos were taken lol. The 2 Northern lights are almost positively male (taking cuttings for pollen), grew a foot this week. They're taking this 100 degree weather in stride. And the bunker bud is a pitiful little thing in the corner. Head count still 40. HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE:yippee::jumphappy:

NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Update coming on Friday. Going to be taking clones of the northern lights for pollen, probably a clone of the LMI and UBC chemo, and flower everything out in ye olde closet with some compacts. Buying seeds is a love-hate relationship for me. Just a tip for anyone who buys from HempDepot, skip the joey weed, he only sells F2s and they never come out like the originals, also, skip K.C. brains, his seeds are never fully mature, have a terrible germination rate, and give you WWAAAAYYY to many males, however, his afghani is stellar...and cheap(pics attached) (those weren't finished yet at the time the pics were taken)

Im a little late, but just read thru your log. They are lookin great bro! that leaf in post#27 is HUGE. Makes me wanna try an OD grow..
I like your blitzkrieg lol, take no chances!
Just an idea, why not keep a mom or two of your favorite strains in that closet. I keep 3 moms alive with 2x26w CFLs and just bonsai. they stay mini sized.
Keep it green man!
-
NY Grow 2011 (starting late)
Thanks, guys! Was thinking of going the mom route and just putting out clones next year, but I think the old lady is a little more patient of my hobbies when they're not around for a few months lol. Will probably just seed a branch of my favorite strain once I have a better idea of how they fill out. Right now it's probably the northern lights x UBC chemo. Peace

Yeah I hear you, man, it's always exciting for the first few hours isn't it? After that it's just bushwhacking haha. I can't be the only one on these forums with a fetish for a good pair of scissors.

Well, a productive week it's been. Went out there with a head count of 35 this week and 26 of them are females so far, can't beat that ratio. One of the Snakebites was 2 joined embryos from a single seed and of course the one was male and the other female, yanked em' as it's too risky to keep any hermie. Gave the ladies a dose of monster bloom and that's all she wrote. All those calyxes have me a little....:yippee:
Peace guys

Wow...I can't even imagine growing in Cali without having to water. We haven't seen a drop of rains since the first week in June, and the daily temps are in the 90's with the humidity about 15%. And that soil...no ferts? OMFG!!!
-
