Crazy weather effects on plants??

Generally by this time of the year we would have had a good solid month+ of good sunshine but with the crazy weather patterns this year it's been hit and miss. We had extreme weather a few days ago resulting in heavy pounding rain/hail even a tornado touched down a few miles away. I was able to cover up a few plants but helplessly stood in the rain wondering if there would be any damage. They seem to have pulled through ok even with a layer of hail covering each container. I'm leaving a 100W patio light on them at night right now because I'm afraid all the cloud cover we've had might trigger flowering. My brother lives 300+ miles north of me at 4500 elevation and has been forced to light his greenhouse at night because his plants started to flower last week from so much cloud cover.

How many days of heavy clouds/rain could cause flowering?

In a controlled environement, such as an indoor grow, flowering is induced within 7 - 14 days with most indicas and 14 - 21 days with most sativas once the photoperiod is shortened. So knowing this, it would take the same amount of days with the shorter photoperiod to induce flowering outdoors. Keep a light on them like your bro to keep them from flowering. However I'm not sure if a certain amount of lumens would need to be available to the plant in order to keep vegetating outdoors. After all, the sun is pretty freaking bright, so a 100w light might not be bright enough.....but not speaking from experience....

I tend to agree but I'm surprised how bright that area is, I put a mirror directly across from the patio light so it shines directly into the mirror. I don't think I could get away with much more light without looking suspicious, this is on the side of my garage so it looks like I just forgot and left that light on next to the door.

Its depends on what strain but a week-12 days usually, I think as the planet gets more an more messed up people who grow outdoors will notice strange things like this happening way out season, its happening on both sides of the pond and if you ask me theres more of this on the way. You can force them back into Vegging by doing what your doing but 100w is a little on the small side, just hope for the weather to settle fingers crossed for you.

Oh, I see.... Well hopefully the 100w is enough....

Forecast calls for sun by Wed and I'm not seeing any indication they are trying to flower yet so I think I'll be OK. I'm hoping this weather will make them a little more hardy.

I would like to plant this week but I am still holding out for better weather in my area. I planted too early last year and paid dearly. I only harvested about 25% of my potential if that. i suffered both frost and overcast causing plants to trigger. Hopefully it is live and learn.

WELL! Found a male plant today(arghhh) this damn weather has my plants dancing on the edge of veg/budding, my friend a few miles away said her 8" plants are budding. Fortunately I weeded out one male and upon close examination I don't see any other indication of the others turning male on me but this was the largest of the group. Broke my heart to cut that beast down! I'm going to keep leaving the patio light on them at night for another week or so just to be safe.

i dont see light as your problem, this is the time for them to become strong and gear up for flower. the stress is most likely from hail and brutal pounding rains. and if this happens often enough it could indeed force flowering early...if it doesnt kill them that is. smaller plants will have to become strong or die. the sun will shine and those that survive will inherit the earth. this can drive up prices in the produce market as crops can be destroyed by mother nature. its the ebb and flow of life. greenhouses are effective in cooler climates or otherwise require huge amounts of air flow and cooling measures.

100% sunshine today and the forecast is for normal CA weather for this time of year so I should be good to go. It would be very, very, very unlikely to have any more rain for the next 3 months at least. Male plants tend to show early and in some cases I've read they don't even need a change in light to start dropping their nutz!

I live in the same area as you....from what I see....lots of people planted very early...and the weather in just not there yet....lots of them did it for the reason of
getting ahead of county regulations....they figure they would be grandfathered in. I have a good friend who has a greenhouse with quite a few plants that are 3 + feet and all of them started flowering...now he has a light on them at night...to reveg them back for the long season...but....I have done this and the plant gets pretty messed up.

Some just never do much...some are ok...and some take off.

It's amazing what 10 days difference makes! I have two just shy of 4 ft and I can only let them get to about 6 ft tops and they could be there in another month.

The reverting back to veg from flowering is a real bitch on the plants and takes a long time to notice significant new growth. I left a lot of leaf/bud material on one spring plant and it's taken it over a month to really show any new signs of life but there are a zillion new three finger leaves sprouting from the old buds I left on the plant, I cut the bottom of the container off and placed it on top of a new bucket of soil, shook the roots loose and we'll see what it does.

I'm revegging a blueberry and its still shooting out a bunch of the single leaves. It's been 3 weeks now... Hopefully in another week it should start vegetative growth?? my clones look like they started to bud too :(.. hopefully july and august will be enough for them to grow
