hello all
well im stumped iv got a plant in a dwc 20ltr is all going well but the ph is going down (not up ) . now iv seen on the net something that says i need to up feed if ph goes down .or was it take feed out .lol
so if any one can help ......
iv looked for the post iv seen all day but now joy.
im setting the ph 5.7 to 5.8 on the dot after a day its like 5.5 .
iv got ph up but id like to know y it doing it

What's up garrath. So I'm also doin DWC in 5 gallon buckets. Now ph does tend to shift up or down when in dwc. Also the brand of nutrients can also have a effect on how much your ph will drift. A . Shouldn't be bad its when the next time u check and its at like a 3 or 4. I check my ph every morning and night and adjust accordingly. I GH ph up and down. But def check your nutrient brand cause it will tell u if it will drift or just ask ur local guy/girl at ur local hydro store about ph drift in nutrients. Hope all is well.

im mad for ph checking 4 to 5 times a day (nothing better to do lol) its just all the dwc iv got only one ever drifts down rest go up and i just drop them down .
i use ghe 3 part to do my feeds .
so camoxnhx you say that your water drifts down to ?? as long as it nothing bad .
im still looking for that uni study that goes in to massive detail about ph drift and how you plants taking feeds from your water make the ph drift
ill post it if i ever find it but its a big place the net

One more quick point - ~5 gallons of water is usually not enough to 'hold', or stabilize the PH - i.e. you're more likely to see drift the less water you have. Using 25-30 gallons, we see a drift of one or two 0.x every 1-3 days. When we were using 15-20 gallon res. we saw 2 to 5 0.x drift every day or two, and when we were using a 75 gallon res we'd only see maybe 1 0.x drift a week.Quote:

hi khy i think you may of hit it spot on
iv pulled the bad plants and have been running ph water with cannazym all week and it getting better now .
siting ear going over it i think i mite have not flushed the coco last time round
what a noob ill get it in the end .
so do u use coco is this somthing that coco growers have to put up with ??
have you any other tips for me and thanx for the help

This happens quite often with rock wool and hydroton. Rich nutrient solutions will cause buildup and you have to flush the salts out. It's just one of the few downsides to a hydroponic system, though it does happen in soil as well, it does not occur nearly as often.
well ill keep flushing it as i am . but it was good thinking with the salt but all ties in now of the pots i have some had ph of 5.5 some down to 4.7 but all of them all over the place made my heed bad lol.
well if i have a plant in coco and i need to flush salts out can i do a flush with the plant in the pot and give it a feed the next day or will this slow the plants down a lot and if you grow in coco do u use any thing to feed your micro heard ?in the coco or is this just a soil thing
just thinking of adding something if you have any ideas like molasses or something from the hydro shop

i'm confused. is your ph going down in your dwc or in your coco grow?
some ideas as to why your ph may be dropping but nothing definitive:
1) you're over feeding your plants. if there is too much food in your res, the plants will drink a greater proportion of water to food ratio, thus increasing your ph as there will be a higher concentration of food to water present in your solution.
2) salt build up. as you know, the salt buildup (crusty white stuff) can greatly increase your ph levels. this can occur if you are using a coco coir that possessed salt buildup (the coconut husks come from tropical places that are sometimes left on the shores for extended period of time and absorb sea salt). you may need to flush your coir next time to avoid this problem.
3) if you're room temps are too high the water will evaporate quicker and increase the concentration of food to your plants. generally, when the temps are higher you may need to add a water feed more often than when they are lower. eg. food, water, food instead of food, food, water.
thats ok i confuse my self iv got coco and dwc in same room
think iv got the dwc sorted now but still geting crazy ph from my coco .
so im flushing the coco is the run off to be at the same ph as the water im puting in ??
or is it just round the same give or take a bit ?
iv now put 30 ltrs of ph flush water in the coco pots im in 10 ltr pots but some of the pots r still coming out at ph of 4.8 and 5 .. 5.5 going in with a bit of cannazym
or am i ment to b putting say ph of 6 in to the 4.8 pot to bump it up ??any help
or im i going to have to get new coco
