How to get a mother plant?
So I have a grown from start to finish with seeds a few times with decent success but now I want to start playing around with cloning a bit. Obviously in order to clone, you need a mother plant for trimmings, because lets face it, nobody wants thirty male clones. Now I know that you sex the plants after about 10-14 days of flowering but once you figure out which plants are female and you pick out your ideal "mother plant", how do you get it to revert back to Veg growth as opposed to the continuation of its flowering?

To get your plant to re-veg, just put the lights back to 18/6, 20/4 or 24/0....the plant will take a few weeks to start re-veggin, and may show some stress while doing so, like single blade leaves, etc., while trying to get back to veggin....just let it go until it gets going in veg again. Cloning is so much faster than from seed, just takes a little practice is all! G/L!

Hey TANK,
I've been involved in other threads that kinda hit on everythang ya said. I'm in total agreement with ya! Took me awhile to realize that seed stock grows a more productive and stouter plant... Just from experience.. I clone most of my stock. As well as re-veggin'.. Just had a SK#1 veg back yesterday.I took her 4 weeks,on 18/6.. I think 20/4 works the best for the sk1. Big Bud seems to do better at 18/6/.. So.. It would seem as if it kinda depends on the strain,as far as, stress and time it takes to come back. I've had Big Bud come back in three and was flowering her at 7 weeks.. Guess you just gotta really pay attention to a strain. Try to understand what it likes and stick with what we learn from it.PRACTICE! For sure!!!

You could also just take a cutting and put your cutting into flowering cycle. That way you don't have to stress out your "mother plant".
Just a suggestion :)

I had a friend send me some seeds. The plant looks very good. Very hardy and very bushy. thick heavy buds. So I took clones during week 2 of bud. I know I have a mom. So in 8 weeks when the original plant is done and ready to be smoked the clones will be ready to flower.

Yeah Ive been tossing around both ideas of whether to re-veg or take a clone to flower. Re-veg is ideal for my grow setup im just worried about stressing it to the point of a hermie. Ive been doing more research about cloning so if I can find a tiny spot to do it at im gonna take a clone from each of my five plants, number them, find which are females, and take the best one and then do whatever with the rest.

Re-vege is a solid technique. If the strain is unstable I'd worry about it, but if its solid NO problems!
My G-13xhashplant was cut off of a reveged mom, (original grower lost all of the clones when he put the mother into flower, so had to revege to save the strain) And has done me well! ;) I'm reveging one of em right now! :D I'm excited to see what happens when I flower it a second time! :hippy:
As for cloning, I'm sure you've hit this thread up. http://boards.cannabis.com/advanced-...ing-begin.html But I'll point you that way anyway. I tossed my :twocents: in on the second page.

I actually just read that entire thread a couple days ago, you gave some solid advice in there, if I choose to clone I will be following your every move:thumbsup:

Yea, I think people worry tooo much about stressing a plant to the point it hermies on them...I've stressed the living crap out of these plants and have yet (knocking on wood just to be safe!) to have one herm on me...maybe I'm just lucky, but I have literally hacked them to almost a certain death, and made them grow back again...lot's of weirdness happens sometimes, sometimes they cease to resemble a weed plant at all, but they all have gone back to growing with no herming eventually...Live boldly, I say...go for it!
Ga, I agree that different strains do behave differently when re-veggin or just stressing in general...I don't think I have a green thumb or anything...I probably am kinda lucky, tho...LOL!;);) :stoned:

well couldnt you just wait until the plant shows preflowers and make her a mother plant?
That is what I did, I understand that some people cant wait that long and dont have the space that I do but still. I would think that its a sure fire way to 1. make sure that there is no stress at all 2. gives the plants plenty of time to grow so that you can pic the strongest/prettiest one to grow and see what it can be when its "sexually mature". Idk, I am still new to all of this myself but in Reading one of my cervantes books it states as little stress as possible makes the plant more fruitful. So far i have 4 BUSHES of plants and 2 are confirmed females with lil hairs popping out of every place possible.
If you CAN wait to see the preflowers but are worried about height then you can also do the technique that I did... top early and top often. Everytime that I saw some new growth coming up I topped it. Not only does this turn my plant into a short stout BUSH but it also ends up giving you 4-10 cola's. after this crop is done I am going to upgrade from my 400w to 2 1000w and with everything dialed in correctly with this method that I got from someone I should be averaging just at or just under a pound per plant. right now I should be getting almost a half lbs of each plant. no lie. If you dont believe me then i can post a vid of his technique so that you can see that I am not lieing. he got 3.95 lbs off of 4 plants... not too shabby.

Whatever this technique is, it sounds like it is right up my alley. I haven't grown anything in my life but before I started reading into everything I was under the impression that each plant should be pumping out those type of yields until I learned that it all usually ends up coming down to the strain and size of the plant. I'm still green as can be so don't even take my words with a grain of salt. I must ask though; are yields always usually determined from the size of the plants?
