Got a New Toy for My Growroom...
My son was telling me that he was smelling weed outside my house.. I said No Way! Told me to walk with him around the house pickin' up limbs in the yard as not to look stupid,or suspicious. Sure enough.. You could smell that freakin' skunk. So my remedy was this... Now I'm at ease!:stoned:
It needs to be moved over towards the wall,some.. I'll fix that tonight when the lights come on. Just to let everyone know.
This investment was WELL worth it!

my mind just did a backflip looking at your picture. :) I love it! So that is your exhaust, and you are sucking the air through that filter before it goes outside?
It never occurred to me that you could do it that way... I have mine on the other side, pushing air through the filter and expelling clean air into my home.
And yes, a big filter with 16 lbs of charcoal in it is definitely well worth the small investment. It made all the difference in the world here.
Dang... the things you can learn by paying attention. :)

Hey Emmie! Reverse your set-up and the filter will be more efficient. You need to have a 400 cfm fan to scrub the air and a 170 cfm to exhaust the air,and make the filter come in contact with more contaminated air. In the filters case.. Less cfm is more! Make sense? These type filters are made to work best on the draw and not push..Static pressure is not at it's peek on the push.If it were intended to be used that way.. The prefilter would be on the inside.

I have two bigbud skunks and flowering week 6. I have neutralizer, just using a little of it near the exhaust fans of the door (not cabinet), it's working well, no smell out of the room.
After this thread I started thinking mine are not smelling strong or the neutralizer is strong?

Here are 2 things I thought about before I made this purchase.
1- O2 generators produce O2 and can be smelled. However they do neutralize odors. Better use is a restaraunt.. For those fishy cooin' smells. Not to mention it's electric. It's just a red flag to someone lookin'. No smell is better!
2-Can filters take care of any odor and need no more electricity to use. There is NO SMELL. There are other that use these and they work great in a room where trimmin' is taking place. So it's a WIN WIN,huh? They will start to smell loud! Even that Big Bud has a very strong odor..

Yes but when? :)
Right now I'm ok with neutralizer. Exactly no smell. Not even neutrolizers smell. But I'm worried if things change for last weeks...

Big Bud finishes in 6-6 1/2 weeks.Mine were really smelly at around week 3-4 until finished. Then reak when drying,too.. Sorry I missed that!

Thank you :)
So I'm good with neutralizer then.
I still believe they don't smell as much as yours. And thinking its because of the lights I'm using. Anyway, they're smelling well enough for me

You guys are cracking me up! TY for the laffs :giggity:
I am on a very low budget and am concerned about odor as well. Found a small O2 generator online, thought about that and also using at least one odor neutralizing CFL in the cab as well. I am only going to have 2 flowering at any one given time.
BTW GA, I'am in the CSRA relocated from Florida a couple o' years ago. I despise DISgusta, but I love Georgia. I also like your signature:

I like that quote! Keep that as your signature... Would CSRA,mean? Central Savannah River Area? Done ALOT of work in Savannah and Augusta and out of the 2? Savannah and Tybee Island...
Sounds like your application of O2 generator would work.. You would have to run the unit less and there would be no O2 smell. No red flags there.

Hey!
Something came to mind after a day or so.. I would see no reason why you could'nt put a filter on the intake as well as the exhaust. I would use a Hepa on the intake if I did that. Just a thought...

Actually, I have had mine after the fan and it is currently before the fan so it is easier to use the prefilter (which can be washed). BUT I am thinking that to have the prefilter on the intake side and the out side have the carbon so I get the additional noise reduction, as I am getting way weary of the sound of the fan. It just means making a wire tube for the intake side, and I been lazy the last couple weeks due to the flu and dental stuff. Soon and maybe I will do a how to at the same time????

WashougalWonder,
I would be very interested in reading your ventilation how to.
I am planning on redoing my exhaust after this grow, hoping for better efficiency and noise reduction.
I have also been doing some research on how to limit the noise factor. The most common census I have found is to use insulated duct. The kind that has the insulation open on the inside of the duct.
From what I've read normal ducting just bounces sound through the duct. While the fiberglass insulated absorbs the sound.
Thought this might help. :hippy:

Many noise issues result from fan vibrations that rattle drywall, trim, etc. against wall studs and ceiling joists which in turn resonates throughout the house. When I built my room I used silicon on every stud, joist, etc. - anywhere two pieces of material touched. I also left dead space between the insulation and the ceiling drywall. It has paid off. My room is nearly silent, except for some exhaust noise which I deadened with a home made muffler.
I love fan issues. It was one of my biggest concerns. I'll tag along!

Well consider this, the fiberglas is added friction so it will reduce the total volume. Not only that, those fibers will break and be blown to whatever is at the end of the duct and if a filter will eventually plug it up.
My noise comes from the fan itself and by putting the CF on the exit side I got 75% noise reduction and on the intake side only 50%. The exit side is the part I want quieter.
GAGrown, not trying to hijack the thread here.....will do my own when I get this going.

LOL@ raise the red flag. I hear you, GG. The noise is a real issue and with AK47 you have to control those odors big time! Too bad there isn't some mechanical type person working on a solution to the noise they produce. Maybe soon there will be?

Your GOOD,Brutha! That's info, people need to know! Let me share this with ya,about fans. They work on the same principle as, "It's easier to push than it is to pull." Objects that is... Air is just the opposite. The reason your noise was reduced.. Was because your using only half of your intended CFM.. Because your building up static pressure in your can filter. It backs up and turns to negative pressure resulting in cfm loss and compromises the intentended use of the filter. I love ventilation issues as well.

Theres alot you can do to calm a fan down and still get every CFM you can out out of. My fan is outside the room. and under the floor. So everthing vent to the outside and slowly flows out of the underpen vents. Fan sits on the ground.

I need to try and modify to be able to get the same results as you are. When these babies go into flowering, they stink up my place even with controlling devices. The product that is the result, is well worth it, but have yet to be able to disguise the scent totatlly. Although, luckily I don't have many people coming over to visit. ;)

Lemme ask ya this.. Do you have Central heating? Are the registers (grills) on the floor or ceiling? I can help ya by know this. That way if they are on the floor. You could add a vent hole in or near your room. Later you'll be able to put a boot in the hole you cut, none the wiser.

Okay, so lets give you a task. Fan 750 cfm Vortex. Filter 39" long rated at 950 cfm. For the very reason of not working the fan so hard I went the size up. I want to reduce the noise, I liked it quieter, but don't want to loose cfm...too humid here, got to have extra air flow for the humid environment.
Does it have any help on the outflow by using over sized filter?
How does one reduce noise on the outflow without working the fan more. Can't go under floor boards. Maybe another pre filter same size as can? Will that cut the noise and not over work the fan?

If your filter is rated at 950 cfm.. Then that would tell me that those are the scrubbing cfm rating. Which is recirculated in the room. You would have a rating of a lower cfm for exhaust.. Thats pulling, through the filter (pulling).. With humidity 80% or more your gonna have to buy a new filter in 8-10 months. You can control the humidity inside the room, but you can't outside the walls of your home.
Here is what you do to your fan. The straighter the runs and shorter you have them mean alot. Even how tight they get pulled. Flex that is not pulled tight, even in a straight line.. Eat cfm's for lunch! Every bend subtracts total cfm, depending on how many bends and turns you make.
Then your gonna insulate the whole fan as if it were covered in a blanket. Or you can use a blanket.. Your gonna do about a ft. or 2 of the ducting you have on both sides of the fan.Insulate.. It'll make things alot better for ya! But... I should mention. If you put the filter on the exhaust end.Your filter will last longer.
Does it have any help on the outflow by using over sized filter?
Yes.. But not much.. You have more air trying to find a way out, than gets out.. Backpressure from the endcap is pushing it's way back into the fan housing.. Negative pressure.. High static pressure. You end up just churnin' the air.
