MFing MITES are back! 5th week into flowering. Need to kill them fast.

Mites are back! They were gone for a month. It's a 5th week in to a flowering. I am not spraying my ladies with anything, fuck no! It will ruin everything. I dumped about 2000 lady bugs on them yesterday and I'll water my plants with Azatrol on Sun. I have 2 No pest strips
in the room I think I'll add 2 more and will turn off intake and exhaust fans for 12 hr at night. Do you think it will work? Any better idea how to kill them fast?

stick with the ladybugs and dont use anything else. no pest strips, growers claim that it gives off a gas. remember your smoking it. at this point cool your temps to about 65 and no more than 70. that slows them down. cut the plants at the base when its harvest time, hang it by the stem and watch the little buggers crawl up and off the stem.

Dude, ease up, one no pest strip per 500 square feet. Would not use azatrol.

The fact they are back says that you did not finish treating and the eggs hatched after treatment.

They say, you can harvest and the mites will leave the plant........

I've heard that too.


Hang the buds upside down from a piece of fishing line threaded thru a sticky trap, and the mites will crawl up the fishing line and over their stuck siblings to get stuck themselves! :S2:

Yet another thing I've read on the interwebs, but never seen myself (not having mites in the first place helps with not having first hand experience with something like that! ;) )





P.S. My hands still have the funk of NEEM on them from tonight's application on my veging girls! ;) :hippy:

you can do now is keep temps low....that will slow them down....use a shop vac when you see them....do not spray....just keep temps low for a weeks and get to harvest....cut at the base....hang them and those mite will crawl right to the top and right off the plant.

now once you are harvested.....do not reuse your soil.....clean everything with bleach & water solution.....now once you start up again....use preventive measures....on at least a weekly basis....make it part of growing.....I know....I know....it hard....you dont see them anymore...so you think...hey I got them.....but whats happens....they are there....just waiting to come out.....mostly you will get them from clones....I now never.....ever....get clones from anyone...that I can not take the cuttings myself....I want to see that mother.....Seeds are better....take longer...but you cut your chances from getting mites.

All LB are dead! I guess no pest strip still works. LB's died in 16 hrs. I went to store and ad 2 more strips to room( 8x10x8). Now I got 4 of them. But you guys saying that I shouldn't use that many? Well I think just some old eggs hatched and I got panicked. My temp went from 75 to 85-87 and that's why probably I got them, but I think they are diying, they are only few and they are not so active. I'll check what's going on there tonight. I got 4000 more of LB but I am not gona use them cause thet just gona die. If you saying that that no pest strip will be bad for plants then I'll remove em. I didn't think that chem from strips will go into the plants. How about neem oil? Can I water my plants once with it before harvest? I got about 2-3 weeks. Will it stink up my plants? I don't want to have nasty flavor in my bud neither SpiderMites. May be I can water my plants with Azatrol once or twice? I'll post some pix tomorrow.

Yep,... the "no pest" strips will eventually kill YOU too if you're in there long enough! :eek: ;)

Look up the MSDS on that thing, it's scary.


Mites are like roaches, IMO and they can and will become immune to the strips.... this is NOT the first time I've seen it.

Remove the "No pest" strips and spread the LadyBugs, use a screen over your exhaust to make sure they stay in the room.


Do NOT use Azatrol or Neem on your plants this late in flower,... either will effect the flavor of the finished buds.


I almost can't believe I'm typing this,... but,.... you can get a good harvest even with the mites..... just look at "weeddaddy50"'s log.

He rocked it no matter the mites,......... (almost tossed up....)........


Once your down, SANITIZE!!!!! bleach everything, rinse,.... rinse again,.. then spray with neem just for shits.

then start your new garden,... and every week,... say on tuesday.... spray with neem...... all the way until flower.:cool::hippy:


Mites are everywhere,.. so you should treat your grow as a "Clean Room" and try to seal it off, and prevent any "transport" from happening ie, carrying them in on your clothes. So shower and change clothes before going in your grow.

Thanks Canniwhatsis, I really appreciate your advise. Ok no Azatrol or Neem Oil. I was thinking that this fucking strips are fucking me up. When first time I hang them in the room and spending in it about 3-4 hrs next day I developed horrible allergy: my nose totally closed up, I had to take a bunch of allergy pills(slept for 2 days) to feel better. Now I use a respirator when I am working in the room, but I think it still gets thru the respirator cause every time after working in the room my nose leaks for hrs and I snease like crazy. Ok I'll remove strips and put lady bugs in the room. Should I keep strips for few days more? I've complete 4 weeks on Fri. How long should I wait after removing strips before I introduce LB into the room? Can't lower my temp it's always around 85-89 it only gets down to 75-80 when temp outside is 40 even with AC on all the time. I got 4 600w lights that heat up room pretty hard. The room is totally sealed and exhaust fan has filter so LB will not escape. When should I introduce carbs to my plants? Oh, by the way, I can't hang them up side down. I'm not ready to harvest. I need 3 or more weeks. I'll post some pix on Sun

the moral of this story is...DO NOT use organic methods of treatment with chemical treatment. chemical will kill benificials as well. live, learn and move on.:smokin: paul schaffer?????

Ok.....here is how to get your temps down....you should have an fresh air intake going into your room...it sounds like this does not come from the outside...maybe just from another room...not seeing your setup....I do not know want you have....but if you can got some kinda of air from the outside with a filter......I use the dustshroom....and you have your fan with a carbon filter....keep it running in your dark period all the time you temps will drop into the 60's.....possibly the high 50's and that will slow those suckers down...insted of new hatchlings every 3 days you have them every 8 to 10 days....keep vacumming them up every day you see them....and keep those temps low in the dark cycle....you will still get a very good harvest if you doo this....when you harvest....cut those whole plant at the soil line....hang upside down and if your have any mites left over they will crawl right up the end up the string and use a sticky strip at the top....they will get stuck and pretty much you will have most of them.....I know it not ideal....but....it's what you have to do at this point....

Thx Weeddaddy50 I'll do that. I'll keep you posted. As far as fresh air goes, I am getting from another room witch gets fresh air from outside. If Ill take air strait from outside The temp will not stay in upper 50s cause outside temp is 80 I will just bring hot air that's all.

I've seen mite ripped buds like that first hand, there's no way I'd smoke them or even let someone I hated smoke them, they were good for hash since the mites won't filter thru a bubble bag! :jointsmile:

As for me getting mites,... well you've already seen in the other thread I've had em, and dealt with em! :chainsaw: :toilet_claw:

staying postive on your grow...and....keeping the faith....and not just taking clones from just anyone.....Since I made the commitment to being a indoor grower...and I love growing....and now making all my own clone and only growing from seeds....the mite problems have....been eliminated.:jointsmile:

I would say the best cure for mites is to be VERY PRO-ACTIVE.

You've probably harvested by now, but next time you discover spider mites early in the crop use pyrethrines (preferably naturally occuring though sythetics work just as well). Lightly mist both above and below the leaf. Repeat every 5 days for 3 cycles. Make sure to water your plants well at least 6 hours prior to spraying. Do not soak the plant. Spray LIGHTLY. This will end the spider mite problem unless you reinfect them. If you find them towards the end of the crop cycle Safer's Soap will control them well enough to make it to harvest with minimal damage. I do not recommend any oils including neem, rosemary or cotton seed oils as they tend to block the plant's stomas, decrease respiration and can burn new growth shoots. Pyrethrins have been outlawed in CA but can be purchased in many other states. Naturally occuring pyrethrins used to be available at K-Mart in a one quart spray bottle. I haven't seen it lately. Really good stuff that if used properly will take them out efficiently.

Sure, neem if over done will plug the stoma.....you dont' need that much. Even pyrethrins are not something I want in my body, I keep them away for the last 4 weeks.

Again prevention is the best way to 'cure' mites.

And, I cannot stand the taste of soap.

has anyone tried dimataceous earth? its like crushed seashells or something. top dress your soil and any soft-bodied bug that travels through it get ripped to shreds. certainly would keep them off your soil. perhaps in combo with neem might be effective.

I use it. It's actually microscopic fossilized single cell plants. It rips up all bugs, so it's around all the corners of my room as well as on the soil, this page has a nice little artical on it Diatomaceous Earth

It also adds silica, which helps strengthen the stems. :hippy:


I don't think it'd be a be all end all for mites since they will crawl from leaf to leaf and travel between plants rather than over the soil.

Now I got legion of hungry Lady Bugs patrolling the girls. I will not recommend to use any type of soap in the flowering it will ruin everything. I did spray my last grow in the 5th week of flowering with "Safer" soap and it kind of stop flowering and removed most of the rasin. Bud tasted like shit after that.

I look at my own grow this way too,... it's almost obsessive, and I've never had a "real" infestation thanks to my diligence. ;)

( There was a scare a month ago with some clones,... but it's said and past now! ;) ) :hippy:

Hi. Can you guys please tell me when do I harvest. What are the precise things that I have to look for? I've read a lot of things , but I'am not quite sure yet. The only thing I know, that if you'll harvest few day early or late the quality of your bud diminishes greatly. Another question I have is when do I stop watering and for how many hours do I keep them in the dark( I think I've read 36hr ) before cutting them? Is there problem, if most of fan leaves on the girls are yellow? I'ts a 5weeks and 2 days into the flowering.:S5::Tomcat: I'm flying High!!!

trichomes. they go from clear to milky to amber. when they start to turn amber your almost there. 30% amber is ideal for most. its all preference though. yellowing leaves is normal(remember FALL) and dark periods i believe are exaggerated. trich production is to protect the bud and seed from heat, cold, predators, uv rays etc. so theoretically increase light intensity so the buds will generate more trichs to compensate. ive tested dark periods with no comparable difference. intense light theory...not proven.

about 15 to 20 bucks at most grow shops.....they have a light on them....then check the trichomes daily.....when almost all are milkey...and some are amber you are ready.....plants will mature at different times....I just harvested 8 OG Kypronite plants and it took about 14 days between the 1st one and the last one to mature.....here is when I took them 10% clear...60% cloudy....30% amber....you will always have some clear...as the plant is still producing trichomes.....Now this is only my opinion....some want mostly all amber trichomes.....In my case the 10..20..70 works for me + I needed the space to move in the plants that were vegging in another room....into the flower room.

Thx bro, I was thinking how can you C em if they so little, I was trying with magnifying glass, can't C shit. Now, as far as flushing goes. When do you start flushing if you say that they all mature at different times. I know you need about 10-14 days to flush, but you need to finish fertilize as well. I do Fox Farm complex and it takes 2 weeks first stage, 2 weeks second and 2 weeks third plus 10 days for flushing that will make about 2 month and some plants I've herd mature in 1 month. How you deal with that?

Yesterday found bunch of mites on one girl. Vacuumed them with shop vac. C what happens.

I can't condone using chemicals this late in the game,... I've got nothing other than keep a close eye, and squish anything you see! :(

If you find mites and suck em up with the vac, go over the leaves with the microscope looking for eggs because they are there, squish em before they hatch! :chainsaw:

Lower your night time tempture to low 60's to high 50's that will really slow them down....then if your buds are not really hard as of yet...get a mixature of gravity or purple max and water....spray the whole plant with that stuff it will drown the mites you see and will be absorbed into your buds...i also spray a mixature of kelp and water on the plants if I see the mites this close to finish....all of these will not ruin the taste of the medicine and are not harmful to humans...flush for 7 to 10 days....the plants will take the nutrients left in the soil and plants and began the flushing process....I water every other day for 4 waterings....that is 8 days...the last 4 days I give them nothing....but you have to check the trichomes...because some will be ready to cut but others will not...cut the ones that ready...and water the others till the trichomes are telling your they are ready.....once you have them all cut....clean your room fully.....and when you introduce clones again....dip them in a neem solution at the start...and then spray them with a mix of neem / kelp this will keep them mostly away and the plants love the seawood/kelp products on them......

I will tell you there are some experts who post on here and most of the information I am providing.....was gained from knowledge of their posts or grow logs...on this site....

By the way I know of no mary jane strain that matures is 30 days....if your are growing in soil.....in my experience 60 days is about average....some take much longer that that.

Can I use no pest strips for 2 or 3 days and remove them again? They seams to work. Do you think chems will get in to a bud in few days. I am not spraying anything anymore on my girls, I rather harvest them not fully mature.

if you care to read my first question is was "how far from finish"...I did not know he was in week 7. Is he week 7 of 8 weeks, 9 weeks, 10 weeks...it's a viable question.

I do not believe we are talking about my grow here...we are talking about how to SAVE his grow.

I believe my advise is solid for his problem with 2 to 3 weeks to go + a flushing week.....I for the life of me do not know what your #$@%$# problem with me is.....but you can always disagree....that is what makes the world go around everyone has an opinion.....

Yes, you can,.... however, consider the fact that they work by offgassing potent toxins that the plant will absorb thru natural respiration,... how long those toxins linger in the plant is up for debate.

As long as you still have time to get a good flush I don't imagine there would be a real problem, but keep up with any other methods you can use.

Sure if its a 10 week strain he's got 3 more weeks, but if it's an 8-9 week strain it's time to start flushing and preppin for harvest.

This is a medicinal site, and we are talking about medicine not Weed or Pot bought off of a street corner.

Mites in and of themselves when smoked in a finished bud won't make you sick, they crackle and pop and taste like shit, but wont make you sick.

The real risk of mites is they will weaken the plant's immune system leaving them open for disease, fungus, and mold, the latter two WILL make you sick if smoked or ingested.

Many of the natural sprays and tonics will effect the flavor, but not harm the user, chemicals are a crap shoot. Do they evaporate completely? or leave a residue? Do you really want to take the chance?


I want to see SIMFER pull the best quality meds he can without making himself or anyone else he might smoke up sick.
