Could you believe that press conference? The sitting president... supposedly the most powerful person on the face of the earth, had to leave an active press conference because his wife was calling? :jawdropper:Quote:

When I hear one of these speeches I can not help but remember that the sitting vice president was once caught doing the same exact thing... plagiarizing a well known speaker. It strikes me that they must really believe that we are stupid.

Of course it's going to get struck down.
And once that happens, car insurance is next.
The federal government does not have the constitutional authority to force us to give our money to any specific industry.
car insurance is much different. you can opt out of car insurance simply by not owning a car or choosing to drive. Health care was proposed as a federal mandate. This is clearly outside the scope of the Federal Government as the constitution clearly states that all rights not specifically covered under the constitution are reserved for the states.Quote:

"car insurance is much different."
No, it is not. The same principle applies - the government is forcing you to give money to an industry that has done nothing to earn it, and in fact has a history of trying to deny proper claims.
It is a money grab. That is all that this is. The Commerce Clause has been misappropriated and if you keep that sort of 'it's different' mentality, pretty soon you're going to be forced to buy things you don't ever use in life because the government says you're required to.
There is nothing different, at all. This is the government saying "Give your money to this industry or else."
Soon enough you're going to have to have COMPUTER INSURANCE if you own a computer. That bill got struck down last year but I hear it's coming back.
yeah, I gotta agree. I think the requirement for car insurance is state law, not federal law.Quote:

I have an MS and BA from top schools. I work at the top of my field. I've been a toker since 8th grade, although I've slowed down in my middle age to be sure. It's all about hard work, discipline, and good early childhood education. Smoking has nothing to do with it unless you allow it to become a distraction.Quote:

I thought this thread was heading in the right direction after the sticky update. What's with the backsliding Pyscho4bud?
Well, there are 12 posts deleted "so far" and I let a bit slide because of a new member getting aquainted with other members here. Gotta let it be a bit social just as long as it stays civil.Quote:

Hudson sided with Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli, who argued the mandate overstepped the bounds of the Constitution.
"The ruling is extremely positive for anyone who believes in the system of Federalism created by our founding fathers," Cuccinelli said. "It underscores that the Constitution's limitations on federal power really do mean something."
The terrible tragedy in Arizona has postponed the repeal vote.......and rightfully so. Prayers for all killed and injured.
amen.
How about this? If you don't want to buy health insurance (even though if you're poor it it's payed for) you don't have to. But if you get in a car wreck, sorry better have cash or you set on the sidewalk outside the emergency room and bleed to death. Why should you be able to not pay, then expect to get treated anyway? You got greedy, gambled, lost. One could argue your removal from the gene pool serves the common good. But given the whole country to shop for judges you can find one to rule anything you want. It will be overturned on appeal and everyone knows it.
Looks like the Virginia Supreme Court is not alone in striking down the ObamaCare mandate. The Florida Supreme Court has now followed suit:
Florida Judge Rules Obamacare to be Unconstitutional - On to Supreme Court? | Texas GOP Vote
And 26 other states have entered the fray. Hopefully, they will strike down the mandate as well.
I like to think that we can follow the constitution and yet still remain compassionate. I would not be for allowing someone to bleed to death in sight of a hospital... that would just be wrong. Not just that, but what about the unconscious victim who shows up with no proof of insurance? I do think though that after stabilizing someone, it is time to start looking at who is going to pay. If they can't pay... then they shouldn't get more than basic services. I'm sorry... Darwin had it right.Quote:

It won't take long now to get a groundswell started with more state courts weighing in and this will certainly be in the supreme court very soon. I also think that it will be declared unconstitutional and my bet is 6-3. I think a couple of the justices are going to have quite a hard time with this. :stupid:It is going to be a good show and I am here for the ride!Quote:

for those keeping score at home  its two judges overturning it and two judges ruling its okay. definitely going to the supremes, O'Reilly is predicting 5 to 4 vote to overturn it.
I think Its gonna fail, They were Just trying to push limits...They will spread their commie crap hear eventually...but they have to acklimate us to it first..
