Harvesting:rootball or no rootball ?
Howdy Y'all,
I'm curious, have any of y'all heard whether or not,it's a good idea to retain the rootball at harvest time ? My friend says that he always keeps the rootball on,with a plastic bag, wired tightly around the stem base, when he firsts starts drying them, hung upside down..he claims that the rootball has some thc in it,that must be allowed to drain down into the buds.
He asked me how plants are harvested inside, and I told him, that we usually just cut the plant at the base, and hang it upside down..he thinks that's insane...
What say you ?
Thanx for your replies in advance..:)
Have a good one ! :D

Either way would be fine? most of the thc is in the stem isn't it?
when i harvest i do i do it by branch. I can see his argument, but trying to hang an entire plant up side down without making a complete and absolute mess? good luck.

There is no THC in the root ball. The THC is the liquid inside the Trichomes, the part that turns cloudy at peak harvests and then turns amber as the quality degrades. In fact if you dry your weed that way you run a greater risk of mold due to the extra moisture that needs to be dried. Also wrapping the roots with a plastic bag, they will rot and mold before they dry out. I would think that some type of mold or poison from the rotting roots would find it way into the rest of the plant as it fights for survival looking for moisture to drink up.

cut it at the base, Zandor is right, there`s no thc in the roots.
it`s just an old wifes tale about hanging your plants upside down so the thc flows into the buds

I could see trimming around the stems, and leaving the rootball and some growth intact with your dirt, wouldn't it try to grow back?
But yeah, that's a good argument about the mold forming before the roots dry, especially in a plastic bag, whoever posted that...
Harvesting:rootball or no rootball ?
i've done it both ways over the years and found the plant drying with the roots makes for a slower dry, and maybe a bit smoother smoke but haven't noticed any diff in potency and now dry by the branch. drying with roots attached just meant more work keeping the dirt from falling onto the flowers...

Howdy nota and everyone,
Thanx for your replies,I posed this question,so that I could settle an argument with my friend..it's obvious..y'all are right..and he's wrong. or some reason,I seem to have a vague memory of seeing plants drying in a barn, with burlap bags around the root-ball..that would help to keep mold from forming, but I haven't seen anything about burlap bags/plastic bags, being used like this,at any site that I can recall..so I can only conclude..that it's not a good idea.
Y'all have a good one and thanx !

can you just hang it from the branch right before the bud starts? has anyone ever heard of spraying the buds with coke or pepsi in a spray bottle i heard that but thaught it bs

Its Urban Legend / Folk Lore that THC drains from anything. Hanging plants upside down comes out convienance not for THC draining

THC does not drain. I think your soda spraying idea has to do with a cheap way of introducing CO2 to your plants leaves. I would recommend seltzer water or something with less sugar (sticky) if you are going to try this. It's a cheap quick, but short lasting fix. If CO2 is your issue, you need to come up with something better.

THC in the root ball my ass. Here's the order of THC potentcy per plant section.
Main Cola
Buds
Upper Leaves
The stem branches and rootball contain almost no THC or CBN or CBD or CBDN or Delta 8 or any of that shit. That's a fact jack. Ask zandor he's a machine.

The reason they say hang the plants up side down,is logical after all did you ever try to hang them standing up lol...
Harvesting:rootball or no rootball ?
While there is no THC in the roots and very little on the stem surface, hanging the plant upside down WITH a rootball attached for a couple of days isn't ALL bad.....
What it does do however is allow the foilage to extract all the sugars it can from the entire plant system.
The sugars can then be used by the plant for various processes which may come in handy during the curing process....ie...smoother smoke, lower combustion levels and perhaps a slightly more dank smell.
However, once the plant is dead, its dead and little if any transfer of biochemicals will take place.
So hanging by the rootball is certainly reasonable...but only for a couple of days.
WHORE will be cured this way as her roots are extremely thick and do hold a lot of sugars that will transfer.
Some plants its just useless to do but out of tradition many people just do it that way on every tree they pull.

cut it at the base or close to and hang it for 5 days with some air movement in the room you know a fan. then put it in a box or something to sweat it then hang back up for a couple days then roll it up and smoke it mmmmmm goood oh ya dont smoke the stem just the buds lmao
