Test on Body Hair - Advice please?

So my husband has a government hair test coming up on Wed. Oct. 27th. Just found out about it, so he will be only 8 days clean.

He is a very heavy smoker. Shaved his head before he found out about the test, which means he now has to treat all of his body hair instead. Going to use the Jerry G method I found on that other thread.

Anyone use this method on body hair before? Success, failures, advice?

Do we have to redye body hair each time we bleach it, or just the day of so it doesn't look suspicious. In other words, does redying do anything other address cosmetic concerns?

And to just make sure I understand the Jerry G method correctly...
We will:
Apply 40 volume peroxide bleach, then redye. Will do this at least 4-5 times, including night before test.
Day of test, will apply baking soda paste, then TW, then Zydot.

Question: Should we use TW in between bleaching and redying throughout this next week? Or just use TW & Zydot on day of/night before?

Be sure to mix powdered bleach with the 40 vol developer.

I'd use Nair to get rid of most of his body hair except for his pits. Then concentrate bleach and redye there.

8 days is not much time. If you get in four treatments you'll be lucky. Three may be all you can do.

I bought 40 vol. developer - Salon Care - it's a cream. I thought that was the only bleach product we needed. Is the powdered bleach the same as Oxy-Clean or Oxy-boost detergents?

My husband now wants to use Magnum Detox shampoo because he found it in a head shop here and it's cheaper. Any idea if it's as good as TW or do I need to convince him to do it strictly the Jerry Way?

You do need the powder bleach sachets to mix with the 40vol developer! They are cheap and widely available :)

I made the same mistake 1st time cause the woman in the hair shop was basically an idiot - and nothing happened at all. Since then I got 5 powder bleach sachets (£1GBP each) and I've bleached and redyed 4 times, my hair feels like straw but I'm feeling more confident.

Jerry says TW is very good and without any other treatments it cut his levels in half.

He gave good advice about removing most other body hair because he will really hurt his skin putting all that strong bleach everywhere on thinner hair (my neck and scalp are very sore and dry/itchy, and it has been a week or so since the 4th treatment), I thought this when I read your post but Jerry has come up with a great solution with concentrating on underarm hair and not giving them much else to take.

Get powdered bleach at the beauty supply store.

I have never heard of that shampoo. It may be fine.

Thanks for all the help Jerry & AmIGonnaFail. Had him use just the 40 vol. last night with swimmer's shampoo afterward and something else with propylene glycol. Tonight we'll mix powdered bleach in it so it will actually do something.

Great advice on shaving everything except the armpits - makes it a lot less grueling. If they say anything about it, he'll just say his wife doesn't like hairy guys.

And I'm planning on having him use TW, Zydot & Magnum shampoo the day of, just cause we're paranoid about this and have an awful lot riding on it. More than a job offer at stake here.

If you use nair, you can leave a little, and make it look like he naturally has little body hair.

So the test is today. We bleached and re-dyed only twice, because the first time we screwed up and left the bleach on for 1 hr. - way too long. We got worried about too much of it falling out. Used Toxin Wash every night for the last week.

I'm a little worried about the skin looking so red and irritated around his armpits. We've been putting on aloe vera gel, but it isn't doing enough. The only thing I can think of is to apply TW to his entire upper body and say he got a sunburn.

Will post results - it'll probably be a week before we hear back.

You could just say he used a new anti-perspirant which didn't agree with him, don't frazzle the rest of his skin haha poor guy!!

Thanks, great idea! I googled that, appears a lot of folks have allergic reactions to Old Spice. So that's settled, the only thing I'm worried about now is that we dyed his hair again last night and you can still see some of it on his skin. It's faint, but noticeable. I scrubbed it with baking soda and toothpaste and it's still there. If they say anything, I guess we'll say that we tried using black walnut juice, which is an old home remedy for skin irritation and allergic reactions. ?????

I really wish we'd dyed a few nights ago. Spending a lot of quality time in the damn shower.

Took the test. After all the toxic shampoos we used this morning, the black dye was barely noticeable. Used TW, then Zydot, then Magnum Detox. Very, very red skin.

The medical assistant was really nice, though, we got lucky. Gave her the story about the allergic reaction. I could tell she didn't totally buy it, but she didn't appear to care.

Now we've got about a week to wait. I'm really freakin nervous. Way too much riding on this to fail.

Failed. After all that prep. Very disheartening. Maybe it's because they tested armpit hair and it's a lot coarser than head hair...

NOOooooo!!!! Sorry to hear, but good to know. I've never had to face the situation yet, but don't look forward to it if I ever do.

Too bad. I hate it when people fail.

I suspect you failed because you only did one real bleach and redye. The first one did not count, you left out the bleach.

I think three treatments are needed for heavy smokers. Four is even better.

Actually we did do two real bleach/dyes, but since he's such a heavy smoker we really needed three to four. There's simply no way to do all that in just over a week I guess. If we had a month to prep, it would've worked.

No way to fix it now. Next few years are really gonna suck. Can't wait to move somewhere where at least med. pot is legal. Thanks for all the help and support from everyone here.. much appreciated.
