Dispensaries way over priced

I have seen a lot of threads,about how much Medical MJ is worth. Folks seem to think that $ 200.00 an oz to a local club,is a fair whole sale price. Then the club jacks up the price to $ 50 or 60 an 1/8 oz. Stop the madness!!
Medical MJ patients should not be paying that kind of money for medication.

How do you know how much taxes I pay? (Looking over my shoulder). I probably pay more taxes than you make in one year ... I also contribute heavily to my LOCAL economy. I employ people, I buy goods and services. The landscaping company where I buy my dirt ($3500 last year) doesn't care where I get my money. Neither does the guy that runs the back loader, the crew that assembles and disassembles the greenhouses every year, or the electricians. The owner of the hardware store, or the hydro store that sells nutes to me ($2200 last year). They all pay taxes too, and they employ people. They all have families to support. I will let them know that they make too much money.

I pay taxes on my farm income (and other income). I won't go to jail for income tax evasion. Farmers who don't get themselves to a good CPA and pay taxes on their legally obtained income are stupid - they will eventually get caught.

If you want to grow and cut out the middle man, do it. My next door neighbor owns a chain of those Lube places ... he doesnt care if you work on your own car because there's enough people out there that just dont want to. If you want to change the oil in your own car, do it. But don't bitch because he charges $19.95 to do it. And, yea, it only costs him $5 - thats profit. That's capitalism. There is enough people out there willing to pay me and my next door neighbor to work. So far the US is still capitalist, unless Obama can hurry his communist agenda it will remain so. Profit is a dirty word, but not yet illegal; so I admit to working for a living. Viva la capitalism, and God Bless America.

I was in our local liquor store the other day - they have a bottle of Scotch in there that costs $625. For ONE bottle of whiskey. Worth it? Not to me. But, someone will pay it. Someone will buy it. Free choice, freedom, capitalism. Isn't it wonderful?

Second that 1... I grow Indoors and although I don't spend quite as much as you O I think many people don't really appreciate the LARGE amount of energy it takes to produce quality. People tend to think just because we grow it, it should be 80oz because we are non prof's "you don't pay tax". It still costs us a lot to produce quality in decent amounts to keep up with supply. Plus we have to eat as well. That coupled with the stress and demand keeps prices higher than they should. But I do admit I'm disgusted in some SoCal dispensaries. These guys are charging 60-75 8th because they can. I mean I charge 55 8th CAP which is 440oz for Hyrdo Grown as it cost's me more than Soil. But even then I run specials like $30-40 8th day, free delivery days/months, free joints certain months, ect. Idk why you all grow, but I do it to Help People ,put me through college, and because I honestly like to grow. I think some of these dispensaries and Growers either don't give a f^&* or forgot that along the way... I mean hell even Pizza hut lowered their prices lol...I know You don't control what Dispensaries do with your product I'm Just saying :thumbsup:

Hope you guys don't mind me posting this up over here, just trying to get a lil feedback on bylaws for a nonprofit.

I am wanting to become a producer, but am trying to set up the company in a way that patients get meds as cheap as possible, with the grower still making money too. and great post ohno

Sometimes its easy to oversimplify things, and say drop price, I have grown my own stash for 8years, but havnt ever done anything large scale, so hard for me to take into consideration everything that may come up like security,etc..

Ya know ... I really don't pay attention to what the dispensary charges for their product. I don't care. I SELL to them - once that deal is done, I don't care what they do with it.

But, having said that ... I have patients that I supply for free. No charge. Nada. Why? Because, number one, they can't afford to buy it. And number two (and most important), they really NEED it. It really IS medicine. One lady is slowly (too slowly) dying. The smoke keeps her relatively comfortable. The other has MS, is a vet, and needs it to help control the jerks and cramps. I probably give away an oz a month or more.

In my humble opionion - all growers should do that. Pick one or two and take care of them. It is the Christian thing to do, and it will improve your yield to where you won't even miss it.

Nice of you to do that. I think that you and people like you are wonderful for promoting legal, safe cannabis. I know you don't do it for attention, but I think letting the world know that not all growers are greedy bastards, and are interested in really helping people would make us all look better.

Grow your own end the BS:D

If you can go to the despensaries, you have a card, you can legally grow your own.

Stop bitchin and start growing. If all MMJ patients would do that there would be a need for stores at all. Stop depending on the stores:hippy:

I also grow indoors....and have patients that are giving free medicine...they need the medicine and can not afford it...and I provide it to them. As far as what the co-ops charge...it is not my business...as I am a grower of A to AAA grade indoor medicine. To grow quality indoors medicine there are major costs to consider and those costs have to be recovered. Taxes are a part of any business, as is insurance, workers comp, fuel, legal fees, security, and all the costs to consider to have a top flight grow room.

You will never make friends on any of these boards by insulting growers who are just trying to help people get the medicine they need and to cover their costs and to earn a living. We are not growing to get rich, because growing is not easy, we do it because we love it and helping people in need.

Yep that's what I have been saying for long time lol... I can live off 30k a year. I don't have to make the Dispensary 100k a day(yes I talked to a guy who makes that in LA) type of cash to be happy. I'm just not that kind of cat. Give me a fishing rod, video games, bills paid and the occasional bar money and I'm a happy dude. I just started on the Business side with Delivery,so I'm in the red still. But when I balance out I'm planning on starting a dispensary here in SoCal that's going to be much cheaper than anywhere else along with some other cool idea's I have. In the end its all about loving what you do and using it to help people. Good Karma breeds Better Karma...

I have never grown more than 6 plants at once, never claimed to, but I have been growing trees since heath took me under his wing back during the Overgrow days. In all honesty I don't think Jorge Cervantes is even much of a grower, and yes a lot of the information is outdated, I was just making a point about the cost of cannabis to produce. World renowned = yes(mostly by noobs), efficient= not even close.

I also never said if you get less than 1.0 gram a watt you are a bad grower, I can not break .6grams in soil/soiless mix/hempy buckets/ chow mix/ straight coco.
But give me a recirculating dwc, or a LP aeroponic setup and ill smash 1.0grams per watt, its all in how a person grows, there are many ways to skin a cat, and grow a plant.
Some ways are just more efficient when it comes to costs, but I wouldn't say hydroponics is better than soil, just more efficient. Sorry if rubbed you the wrong way, best wishes.:hippy:
Now if you are growing specifically for patients, then I think efficient growing techniques are more important, because the cost of production is passed onto the patients.
So anything that can increase production, while lowering costs would be good for the grower to implement, not only to pass the savings onto the patients, but also to make more money yourself.

Things like running a recirculating system as opposed to DTW.
Using waterculture as opposed to a simple wick system, or an even less productive media like soil.

I can honestly tell you that it doesnt cost alot to produce 6 lbs of weed every 2 months with 16 plants using a soil less medium

1 time cost for 2 -1000 MH $450 & 16 potters $60

Using my strain of 10 yrs clones cost $0

Cost of sunshine # 4 $100 (3 bails)
Cost of electricity for 4 months $500 ($125 a month)
Water and fert $100

$700 cost for 6 lbs or 2688 gs thats a cost of only $3.84 a gram

Thats the Growers fault not the strain. I have 100% Mexican Landrace , its a Sativa and its pretty beasty I have to send it off for test results but Let me tell you THEY mess the herb up! The strain its self is actually really beautiful, nice thick long white "Hairs", pretty short Nodes with a lot of bud on it... grows about 5-6 feet tall under max conditions, smells like gas and mmmm pine/wood with a hint of earth. Nice Sativa high, not like the higher end Indoor strains so I'm guessing like 13-15% THC.Its not bad at all just by time it gets here its thrashed....Figure its 15% to start with ok now there were a few males in the crop(they don't weed males out they don't give a f^&*) seeding drops the THC to 12%. Now the curing is FAST and barely done, poorly stored, compressed, not dried correctly drops it to the 5-7% we normally get here as "shiv,stress,dirtweed,grass,boo boo, bunk, shit(not to be mistaken for le "Shit" which is an actual good strain lol) shwag,shwack,bush, or "That garbage ass weed" as people refer to it as here in SoCal.
I wish Cali would let us sell/trade seeds "legally" this cloning thing is not such a hot idea. After a while people are going to end up getting these 1-3 leave short little bastards that are like gen 6 er 7 with 1/2 the potency the F1 or F2's had....

I think it's one of two things:

1) You have built up a tollerance to THC. It happens. It's like drinking alcohol. The first time you drank a beer - you were probably drunk off yer ass. Does it take a little more now? Sure it does. Any drug (well, just about) can be that way. Caffeine, nicotine, heroine, vallium, and yes, THC. Which leads me to the next question ... do you smoke a lot? Why? To get high? Do you NEED it to get thru the day? Now, I have a suggestion: IF you are ONLY smoking it to get high - stop for a week. Find another way to get yer buzz on - try donating time at a homeless shelter, or bunjie jumping ... If you CAN'T stop for a week - you are an addict.

2) Your "top shelf" stuff is indoor grown, right? Grown in chemicals, sprayed with chemicals and lit up with thousands of watts of electricity. Try some good quality outdoor stuff that's been fertilized with cow chit and bathed in The Sun. There IS a difference. One is healthier than the other - you figure out which is best for you.

I suspect it is number one however. I am addicted to tobacco (though I quit over 20 years ago I could go back to it in a heartbeat) - I still am addicted to coffee. Yes, I REALLY NEED coffee. The world is in danger if I don't get my coffee. If you feel that way about marijuana, you need help - or at LEAST you need to admit what the problem is.

Hi, Thanks for answering my post. Oh, for sure I'm a stone addicted addict. lol. I'm way old now but have been a "party" girl since I could sit on daddy's lap. But my drug use is way in the past, like 25 years ago. I hadn't done anything for at least 5 years('cept) for drinks with friends.

I started smoking again this last March with a vengeance. I smoke 5 days a week, probably...all day...I do get weed head and have to rest a day or two. And if I want to smoke and can't get it...well, daddy's not happy till I do...
So ok, I have a high tolerance.

Your idea to stop smoking and try something different is something I will do. Like stay straight for a couple of weeks..

I have the pleasure of having smoked the wonderful Humboldt county grown pot back in the early 80's. Besides being the bomb, the weed had a wonderful awesome smell and taste!! It's similar to my coffee. Have to have it..but good fresh beans, just ground..

But so much of what I buy smells good from the bud but the smoke and taste is just awful!

Makes sense about the lights chemicals and other factors. Will go today to find some outdoor grown medicine!

Bought 2 grams of Zomberry yesterday. I'm stoned, I'd say a 6 for a buzz but the taste and smell!! YUCK, YUCK and double yuck!

or should I say "stoner girl".....I know what you are talking about....there is lots of medicine out there that tastes bad.....I am an indoor grower...not by choice....but by the new laws and ripoff of my outdoor....I am way old school from the santa cruz mountains and remember the smell and the high of those days....there are many indoor growers just like me....Don't give up on indoor and I belive it is superior to outdoor. Ohnoyoudont is right there are many indoor growers who never learned to grow or maybe never learned to grow for taste.....and for us old school stoners......we take everything into consideration when choosing to medicate.....very strange you brought up this topic....as the last few weeks while having friends over to help trim the medicine we have "reviews sessions" of the medicine we grow. Since there are about 8 strains that have been harvested, and maybe 4 new in flower right now + the keepers from the last review sessions we have many choices...here is what we have found.

1) NY Diesel.....if grown properly and flushed for 10 to 14 days, dried properly 10 to 14 days, and then cured in jars for 10 to 30 days....is excellent medicine, but then so is OG kypronite, Purple Dragon, Space Queen, Grape Romulan, Blackberry Kush, Purple Berry Kush, Blue dream, we grow all of these strains......and all of them are keepers.....but since we are old school.....we grow medicine that will appeal to everything we want.....I.E.
Smell.....it could be skunky....fruity....piney.....earthy.....minty.... lemony....berry....strawberry....
pungent....or a combination of those.....Taste is Super Important......could be all of the above....and more....espically smooth.....when you exhale....you whould say to your self.....yes.....that's what I am talking about....love it...i need another hit.....

2) The high....or effect....of the medicine....now that is a choice each person has to make themself.........you have night time medicine....day time medicine....couch lock medicine.....uplifting medicine......happy gigly medicine....and even medicine that will keep your focused. All of these effects as discussed in our "review sessions"....

3) What I have found out in this quest to provide the highest quality medicine for patients is.....not many people really care about all that stuff....they believe....hey weed is weed.....people will pay regardless.....that is why you have that kind of medicine you are describing.....I know it's sad....but....for some it all about making the all mighty green back.

When you find an old school grower....indoor or outdoor....and they believe as I do....you gravitate to them.....because there many....that really only think people smoke to get high....and we all know that is not the case.
