Low wattage, high lumen, big yield.

Hypothetically speaking...

If one were to grow weed for legal medicinal purposes, but one does not have HPS, HID, or MH electric bill money, what type of lighting would one need, for 4 plants that will be 3 to 4 feet high?

Are CFL or LED options, if so which type or brand would be best? Do these lights have the right amount of lumen and the right wavelength for growth and development?

For vegetative state, on a 24 hour light schedule, what type of lighting could one use that would have near optimum measure of lumen that would not cost any thing over 15 dollars a month in electric bills?

What type of lighting would be best for 12/12 hour light schedule, for flowering stage?

Using only one type of light for veg and flower would be best.

Please go to the FAQ's on this site and read...read...read...read.. do some homework.....every questions you have has been asked and some type of answer has been discussed......Take it from someone who read all of this information....you have to do your OWN research.....I would be happy to help you with your grow and many others would also.

There is no magic lights you can turn on for $15 per month and have 4 huge plants with giant colas...There is an entire sticky....cheep homemade lights that has tons of ideas.

Growing costs money...$$$...how fast do you want to grow?

I was hoping someone had the hook up with a wizard, and knew where to get magical lights n' shit.

And I have been doing research on building a hydroponic system with everything from creating your own feminized seeds to breeding and genetics, to drying and curing and creating hashish from clippings, odor control, sketches, and tons of other stuff.

I am coming upon the final stages, and lighting seems to be the main part of my research now. Other than that, I am taking your advice, the FAQ sound good. If you would like I could publish it when I am finished?

So far, lighting seems to be the most expensive topic in growing. Other than that I can grow for dirt cheap, hydroponically. It's just this damn lighting! I might end up with metal halide however.

Without lighting indoors growing is not going to happen, all your research you have done so far is useless without lighting.

Another excellent place to start for research is you tube....tons of videos on growing.

I bet I have spent over 100 hours just doing research on this site and over 100 hours on watching videos on growing on you tube.

As you can plainly see growing cost money....and It's not easy to grow.

If I was you and was very serious about growing 4 plants and wanted to be successful.....HERE IS BEST TIP I CAN GIVE YOU.

Try a grow like shaggy did on this website.....search bubblers...

he got 3lbs PER plant....and did it several times. I would of patterend my grow after his SAGE advise...but I did not find it until my grow was going...he have pictures and step by step instructions...

It will cost you about $2,000 for the complete setup....possibly less and you will have the best hydro setup there is.

Now it is totally up to you....

try something and start your grow log....

I'm not clueless, I've been gardening for years, just now got around to cannabis, lol. Like I said, lighting is the last part of my research, I did not forget about it.

I'm just really skeptical about lighting, I don't know what to do about costs. Every part of what I have researched up until now has been fairly cheap, and then god said let there be light, and now money is an issue cause lighting is fucking expensive.

A log will also be in my PDF, Pictures will be uploaded and printed later.

However thanks for all the help, I'll check those websites now.

find weed dealers and ask them if they know anything about led ufos.... potheads normally give them away for around 100 nowdays thats how much i got my 90w for :)

How was your grow with the LED's? Just wondering, were they worth it?

I run a 120w LED on my veg room, and LOVE IT!!!! Overall I had spent over $400 on my 400w MH that I was running, and it did good, but I had to take a bite of the LED apple,..... So I dropped $350 for an LED....

I'm Glad I did too. For Veging, LED completely stopped stretch on my peppers, which have since exploded into lanky bushes under natural sunlight. For the MJ the veging stretch is about 1/2 to 1/3 of what it was before,... fan leaves are the same size, and growth is just as rapid,... it just doesn't stretch! AND it's 1/3 the power draw for that part of the grow! :cool: :jointsmile:


I am flowering under HPS tho,.... and will probably continue to do so because flower is where LED falls off. There is a defined decline in yield vs HPS for smaller grows like mine, and hypothetically yours. I've spoken with a couple local growers that have done LED flowering, and they agree that the yield was less, but they insist that quality was better for the same strain, I'm not sold on that yet, and can't afford a side by side.


My current grow costs about $100 a month to run, just in extra power, extra water, soil, nutes, ect. And I'm only running a 6x5' space for all stages! :eek:

WOW!!...100$ a month in extra bills,mine's only 20$ or so more,but then i still gotta get an HPS/MH...do you remember what kind of yields you were getting?....for 1200$ a year, i think i would want at least 3 lbs..thats my goal anyway...
