I truly dont know if it will work, but traditionally soapy water has done wonders for other plants in terms of getting rid of bugs. You sure you dont have a garden center or a home depot in your area? Walmart even has tons of chemicals maybe even natural stuff that could work. Neem oil is what you need. My friend swears by it as a soil grower. I believe he is even using it to pretreat his soil before grows so that the spider mites cant start. I believe this stuff is really what you need so the better solution maybe be to figure out a way to get your hands on this stuff instead of trying to find a way to not use it. I think it's 10 bucks a quart. Ebay, walmart, home depot, garden center, head shop, feed and seed farm store, these are the places likely to carry this stuff.
Neem Oil is god.
Prodaytrader is right, you can find it at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, and I have even seen it at Longs Drug Store.
I recommend the brand Greenlight because it is organic and works fantastic, not only with insects, but with molds and dieses as well. :thumbsup:
Thanks guys, so the Neem oil is something you just put in the soil?! or do I have to rub/spray on the leaves? The problem is, Im 3 weeks into flowering and these suckers are HUGE!! Some are taller then I am and there are so many branches/leaves, its unreal! Obviosly this is my first grow, as I am totally unprepared, but I cant afford to lose these babies...
The bottle of concentrated Neem Oil comes with a full instruction manuel taped onto the back of the bottle. It will tell you the ratios to use, and how often to use it. You will be spraying 100% of your plants with it, so it sounds like you have a lot of work on your hands, but trust me, it will be worth it in the end.Quote:

I dont have the complete list handy, but garlic, onions, dill, fennel, coriander/cilantro and cloves are the herbs that repel spider mites. Marigolds? Do attract spider mites. Garlic, dill, and cilantro also repel ahids. Keep your outside air coming in filtered. If your garden shed is surrounded by lush vegitation, like mine, Keep that door closed on hot days, and get a small air conditioner. dont put or bring any other plants or dirt into that room. These are precautions I took this time, because the last two times I caught spider mites during flowering, of all times. I used the "hot shot" no pests, and they were gone in four days, then came back a week later. The door was open and letting those bastards find their way back in. I kept the door closed from then on, and no more mites. On a side note, if you grow for a dispensary, they will frown upon the use of strips, claiming they do leave a residual smell throughout the product.
with due respect...why? Is it because he is in late stage flower and it would wash tric's off? Can I assume during veg, a soapy foilar wash would be acceptable then?Quote:

I'm stupid but pyrethrins are natural and are destroyed by light.
Light spraying in the off cycle should do it in less than a week.
Remove webbing manually.

Some soaps contain high phos or other chemicals and will burn the heck out of plants. The taste is another reason, but that is only taste.
We've had a horrible problem with mites this year. we've held them back using neme oil. rosemary oil, pyrethrum and spraying with water. depending on your local humidity ( we're in the high desert) misting with water will work. but watch out for mold! the oils all worked some but you have to be very careful not to burn the leaves and you will need to repeat the treatment. don't use the pyrethrum as it will kill all the bugs including the good ones and then oh boy. best thing is to not let them in. nest year we will not have any spider mites as we will be extra careful in the beginning. only 2 weeks left so it'll be ok but the plants would have been even better!!
I agree that Neem Oil is very effective to control spider mites, and some gnats.....but don not feed the plant with it. It will wind up on the leaves as pointed out above BUT it will also wind up in your buds and will not flush out like nutrients will and will have an adverse effect on the products finished taste.
I've used successfully a mixture of Neem Oil and "FOOD GRADE" Hydrogenperozide mixed with water to spray plants and grow medium.
Best tho is to maintain a sterile growing enviroment, and that includes sterilizing the grow medium, especially if using dirt (ugh) or any medium that does not come pre-sterilized or has been open and sitting around. Washing your hands and armrs, and not going into your grow area with the same shoes, clothes, etc you wear everywhere else, plus washing the floor, walls and any surfaces with bleach and water.
Remember cleanliness is next to godliness, and next to impossible for a dirt farmer. ;)
