We will be renovating our frontpage of our site eventually,
Please list the various features you have always wished existed for the frontpage of the website
Any and all suggestions will be looked at and hopefully we can select a few to be implemented.
Lets work together to make this a site we as a community can be all proud of!

can't think of anything real right now but I always liked that mouse over function you used to have that showed the countries names for the flags. that was really cool. we were all learning all the worlds flags that way. :rastasmoke:

A new section dedicated to growing in coco coir.
Private messages would be nice. I understand why you don't have them, but if a problem between two members is brought back to the boards then just perma-ban both members. Make strict requirements for who can use them and a huge disclaimer for it's intentions :jointsmile:

Agreed, why must one be a site giver or elder to enjoy the privilege of sending a buddy a PM? If there's a problem one can just block those PM's. What's the big deal with that?

Is this limited to the front page? If so, I'd like to see the medical aspect of this site to be explained under the header more prominently, and to thank the past and present medical users for their hard work in making this the best medical cannabis reference site in the world, and to thank the doctors that allow us the comfort that cannabis offers?

How about incorporating the crap at the bottom of this page into the beginners page? I've seen posts sit there for many days unanswered.
How about giving each grow log their own section? Grow Logs - Hydro, Grow Logs - Soil, Grow Logs - Outdoors. Or Grow Logs - Fluorescent Lighting, Grow Logs - HID lighting. Would be easier to look through, and see what's working for others without having to check each and every log.
Instead of a PM page, (since it is often used for crap against site rules) how about a live chat feature?
Medical Marijuana Rolodex a place where patients can find distributors in thier MMJ state...

an area to discuss states working on mmj and news / progress in those states. rather than just the dozen or so mmj states.
i know that a few states are working on passing legislation but its hard to find updated unbiased news on it

I second the live chat. Be it voice, text, video, whatever. With separate 'channels' for particular discussions. This could work out much better than the PM system.
I use video chat (skype mainly) to demonstrate concepts and show things. Video chat would be nice, but I understand that not everybody is legal. Tinychat seems pretty good to go, if you don't want to broadcast your face you don't have to, you can just chat in the text box.
Major agreement with Rusty - chat. Faster communication means a chance of less overall clutter in the forums and better post quality. Also, less thread repeats.
My guess is that for it to be hastle-free, a Chat Czar would have to monitor all the chat. Sadly, you just can't trust some people to follow rules, and any situation resulting in federal litigation is likely not a comfortable thought for Sundance, CanCom, nor the membership that benefits from this site. Makes me gag in my mouth thinking about having to move to a different site.
Perhaps chat for senior members, (with 500 or 1000 posts for instance) would benefit those of us that could actually use the feature for the good of the community. But the same could be said for PM's. However, once a junior member with a sophmoric hair up his ass has access to the PM page, bad things can happen. I'd love to have to option, but have lived this long without. (kinda) :jointsmile:

I love how the homepage is all inconspicuous, but the news never changes (under new articles). I'd like to see more headlines about cannabis from around the world. maybe a homepage that looked good in widescreen. i do like the different colors of the homepage are different from the forums, it adds to the marvel that is the forums. i dont troll around often enough on the home page so needless to say my bookmar is set to forums/growing information. i love this site and its members i even love the name cannabis its just so much better than any of its nicknames.... even marijuana is a misnomer. but yes those are my suggestions. even if you didnt do any of those this site would still be the best.
Been spending quite bit of time in the "Medical Marijuana States" forums and it has been mentioned that sub-forums in each state for Dispensarys and another for Doctors. Possibly the same sort of format that we use for indoor growing?
Also, do the the volume of talk about "Dispenarys vs. Caregivers" in the Colorado state forum, maybe we could also have another sub-forum for Caregivers.
Oh yes, some of the fine people from Canada are a bit offended that we have them under "States". Maybe something like "Medical Marijuana Canada with their Provinces including the sub-forums mentioned above?

agreed. https (!!!!!) and pm's. I also like the idea of subforums. It's a pain to scroll a whole screen to see if there is a new post, and that's where its at on my laptop.

Certainly a sub-forum for the MMC listings. Silly to use stickies at the top of the general forum.
Sub forums for caregivers looking for patients, patients looking for doctors, and patients looking for Centers.
The ability to IM or PM or whatever so if people choose to contact someone from the forum they can without making cannabis.com liable for connection.

^ well, I guess really the Activism and MMJ News section covers this, but it might be nice to a seperate one under the MMJ States subforum for budding States discussion.
but, all of this is about the forum not the front page. To be honest I never go to the front page except to click on the "most active" threads. I think smart spammers can make their threads the most active so that is not always something you want to see on the front page. Maybe it should be based on member vote or something instead of the just the most active but most of time thats not an issue. :twocents:
I was going to suggest earlier update the videos but I just now went to the bottom of the screen and saw there is a section for recent videos and news. I might suggest moving that up a bit and adding a link to MAPS news server to bring more focus there. Can members post videos, too? it would be pretty cool if certain members could. not me, but others on here. interactive is always interesting to come back to.
but, like I said, I mostly go straight to the forum, I wasn't even aware of all these new videos and stuff at the bottom. :stoned: think i'll check some out now. :jointsmile:

I'd appreciate the ability to share more information with people regarding services that our MMC offers, as well as information about being involved politically and with caregivers. The Colorado forum has seen a big spike in traffic because there is a large dialogue going on about issues like mmc's vs caregivers, legal issues and warning people about bad places to shop.
I go above and beyond to follow the TOS here, but it can be frustrating when we're talking about legal medicinal marijuana.

Unfortunately, commercial sales are still illegal, so advertising prices would typically serve as a commercial advertisement. If California passes Prop 19, perhaps that might change things on this site to some degree. However, I can foresee this opening up a can of worms with everyone trying to start selling.

Oh, and a big "Log In Here" section right smack in the center. Login? Sure enough, it did not recognize my login status from the forum. I'm not really an internet expert, but I'm guessing that the home page and the forum are on two different servers that don't recognize each others' logins? No biggie, but after looking at the front page I'm asking myself why I'd ever go there?
The forum threads imply that this is a medical cannabis forum, but as someone points out above, that is not very evident from the headliner. Members are pretty good about stopping random drug talk here, but maybe a bit more explicit headliner would help.
And here's another vote for PMs. After reading this thread I think I understand why it's not active, but I would just point out that you are no more liable for what folks PM to each other than the phone company is about what folks talk to each other about the phone. OTOH, IANAL, so what do I know? :)

Okay, just a few impressions from a complete newbie. Hope they are helpful, and thanks for the great website! :D
Besides the obvious spam problems that could arise from the PM system being activated (This is why I just list my IM screen names in my profile so they show up in my header bar of every post I make,) this could also add a large amount of overhead on the database and the bandwidth, putting undue strain on the server hardware and affecting overall site performance. This would also likely make the nightly downtime take more than the typical hour, possibly doubling that time, leaving the site accessible for only 22 hours a day.
I've been on the forum for several years now and I never even knew I could "log in" to the front page. I just now did for yuks and I see I can fill out this info ...Quote:

I mentioned in another thread giving out awards to members, nothing special just something by their name, like most helpful, community award, and every month a new person gets it, or every 3 months.
