First Time Growing. Tell me what ya think
Hello everyone! Been reading and taking advice off of these threads for some time now, so I decided I would let you all know with what you helped me accomplish so far this season. I am new to growing, and have loved every second of the tedious work and tasks I have had to learn how to do to keep these sexy ladies growing strong. I live in the Midwest, and am in the process of maintaining my first serious crop. Received the seeds in a purchased bag of very potent stuff, starting them out on lights somewhere in between April and May. Started seedlings on a mediocre light setup, transplanted to outdoor location.
Fertilizer= A 20-20-20 ratio. Strong I know, but I have been very careful and switching to 10-20-20 during flowering.
---Light= 10-12 hours a day
The only problems which I have experienced have been dealing with insects. They get a little bitten by crickets, and I have made homemade pesticides using different strengths of habanaro peppers, Serrano peppers, minced garlic, cayenne peppers, and vinegar. Worked pretty well, but I am in the process of making a cricket trap using Molasses, Vanilla, water and splash of lime/lemon juice.
Attached some pictures of the season so far. Here are is one partial life cycle of my Minnesota Homegrowns

The light is actually about 16 hours a day. Gets plenty of everything, morning, afternoon, evening.

They look nice an healthy bro:thumbsup:. You might want to dig out 2 of the smallest in the big pot. They will only compete and leave you with little yield. Plus the roots will get all tangled up and then later it would be very hard to separate them.
But other then that, they look great man, good luck:thumbsup:

i wonder if it will have a spicy flavor? j/k :eat:
that is smart thinking...i am wondering if the cig in the pic is an accident or did you do that for comparison?
lookin good

Ha, the cigarette was for comparison. And the small buds in the pot were pics of the plant when they were young. Unfortunately, I realized that something just ate the hell out of the bottom half of the leaves, they still have at least a month before harvesting, I am hoping that they may heal or whatnot. My pesticides did not work, going to try some organic type soap to keep these pests at bay

Here's a couple weeks later, plant is now standing at about 6 in a half feet tall easy, and I am hoping it will go into flowering mode soon. Still am having problems with something gnawing on my lower stem a bit, something still eating the lower flowers even after being treated with insecticidal soap and garlic/hot pepper spray, but the top 75% of my plant is doing great. Not sure what strength nutes to give once it goes into flowering, anyone have any personal favorite ratios?
Thanks !

Yup, cat tails, native to Minnesota wetlands. They don't explode naturally, but if you hit them when they are fully grown, they explode and fuzz goes everywhere. Also heard they are edible. The spot is really nice, soil and sunlight wise, but being next to a swamp, my nine to five job is trying to deter insects from my plant. Each day remove a beer bowl trap with 40 plus slugs, no exaggeration. Does anyone know what is happening to my stalk? Is a bug destroying them, or is it growing bark? I cant tell if these are pre-flowers either. So many questions, so many more years of knowledge to acquire... and completely off subject, picked this up at the store a while back, but has anyone tried this beer? DELICIOUS!

Just topped my plant at 7 feet tall! This lady (hopefully:)) is getting big, so I decided to attempt to keep it from growing more upwards than it already has. Still being swarmed by insects, forgot to loosen my copper wiring wrapped around the plant so it dug in a bit, I am running into every first time grower problem it seems like! Insects attacking and have no money until tomorrow so I made some potent high power garlic/spicy pepper spray to attempt to hold off any attackers until tomorrow when im picking up some Neem Oil! Ill keep you all posted with some more pictures as the season progresses!

Ok, so one of my biggest fears may be happening as we speak. I have been carefully maintaining it for the last couple weeks, but not carefully inspecting. I just returned from my plants to find....what MIGHT BE A SEED!>! I have been trying to research, and would like a second opinion on what is going on. The plant is showing female pre-flowers, but also a couple of these guys, so im guessing I have been given a hermie....:mad::mad::mad:
Any professional opinion, any possibility this is a female thing which I am mistaking for a male? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am sooooo frustrated! :(
Should I toss it if it is a hermie? Im not trying to keep it around only to make a little hash, because Im guessing the buds will be covered in seeds...

looks like a male flower, guess that one went hermie on you, I would cut it doen to prevent it from pollenating the rest. beautiful plants overall.

Well here it is everyone, August 18th, and officially the last day of my grow season. I realized it was a male, and I know a few other local outdoor growers nearby so I did them a favor and yanked my buddy(still getting used to not calling her my lady!:()
Thanks for all the help this season, I wont be growing again until winter when I move in my new place in Breckenridge Colorado! Very sad day for me, but I am trying to stay positive and realize how much fun this season was, and how much amazing information I have learned. I would love to keep advancing in growing, and that is exactly what I am going to do! I dream of supplying for a dispensary or being a care giver someday, hell maybe even working for a independent organization or company depending on how the laws and ballots play out in the next few years. I will grow till I die, I was born to do this!
Much Love everyone,
Here are some last pics for everyone to enjoy:stoned:
Until next time....Goodnight...and good luck:thumbsup:

Brecknridge is cool, I was there a LONG time ago. Lots of good pot out thre! Perhaps indoor growing might prove more promising?! Any way thats a cool picture you got, thats a bush that I WOULD vote for!!
Peace man, better luck next time! BTW cool move cutting that down in in thoughts of near by growers!

I also live in minnesota and was thinking about growing:rasta: . But I don't know shit about growing besides putting the seeds in some water before you plant to crack them and have two rooms, one for veg and one for flowering. Outdoor is what i would like to learn.
I was watching this video--> YouTube - Weeding out marijuana , I would love to find some of the wild cannabis in minnesota.
Anyway that sucks that your plant was a male, but your other plants do look nice:thumbsup:
I met a few people in saint paul, but the two people I did meet don't seem to be in for the love:rastasmoke: and are in it for the money. I would love to meet some new 420 loving people in minnesota and some growers to see how I could get started.
Have a good weekend:rasta::rastasmoke::pimp::smokin:
