What is this? you prob don't know

I can almost guarantee no one here can tell me what this is as I've searched high and low, but I'll try to give as much information as possible. It progresses as the plant gets older and doesn't effect every plant. Some plants get it really bad and seem mutant. It starts as a purple spot here and there and then slowly consumes the whole plant. I've seen it to some extent every year in this one area, but have had other growers in the town tell me they've had a bit of it here and there. It's purple spots and around the spots the leaves get all wrinkly, twisted and mutated looking. It seems to attract mold when the finished buds are dry and I don't smoke buds that have a lot of it. Neem oil has seemed to help a little but it doesn't completely cure it. Really infected plants are mutated from head to toe. I've used different genetics every year so it's not just a mutant strain. Affected plant always have it on growing tips. With no further adieu heres the pics: :detective1:

I could be wrong but it looks kinda like botrytis to me. What's the humidity like where the ladies are?

what are your daytime and night time temperatures. Looks like they might be exposed to the cold and they dont really like.

I have the same problem, but it only happened to one my my plants after I topped it.

Well, humidity is that of a normal NY summer, same for temperatures, so there's no nighttime chills going on as it's 70 at the coldest. The best guess I hve on the subject is either some sort of fungus that's prevalent in the area or a virus. None of the surounding vegetation seems affected and not all of my plants have the problem, it varies from year to year, sometimes most of them, sometimes only a few. It happens without any stress factors so I'm stumped???? Any other guesses?

yeah, that's exactly it. My brother-in-law always said it was "something in the soil", but you seem to be using potting soil, so I'll rule that out not that I thought it was the soil anyway, lol. There are literally hundreds of viruses and fungus that affect cannabis, I just wish I knew exactly what it is. Helps to know I'm not the only one here that has had the problem. I'll keep spraying with neem oil, damage control. I've seen it destroy entire plants from top to bottom.

yea Id keep an eye on it if I were you.. like you said it definitely helps to know so oyu cna prevent it in the future. Find strains that are resistant to it. I dont have any idea though.. it could be humidity like someone else said.

Take a sample in and have it tested.... problem solved.

tested where? and won't they mind I'll be giving them a piece of the herb?

I know that fungis grows faster when the humidity is high and I know the humidity can get very high in new york. I was born and raised their Ive transplanted to california 28 years ago but still have family all over NY. From what Ive read the plants like a humidity of about 54%.:stoned:

i've got the same thing happening to all mine in one area, purple coming out the growing tips high on the plant not as much low on the plant. i thought i was to strong with the N (used urea) thinking about giving a good dose of phosphorous, they just started budding when this happened, sick to my freakin stomach, any help will be greatly appreciated, my pics would be just like the authors of this forum only purpler.

hmm purpleness is always pretty.iv'e had it once its most likely just a trait of the plants some spots purple some green i wouldnt worry about it...unless it actually is hurting your plant wich i doubt., my uncles strain that hes been growing for yrs does this every year....and no its not bud rot forming.just purple buds...no biggie.alot of strains these day are crossed bred with plants that purple genetics that could be it also...or its just lovely new england weather where we get those fast cold spots during the night...just go relax by ur plants at night and see if you can feel a very cold breeze...

Middieman, did you actually read my post or look at the pics?? It kills my plants, causes mold, and mutates the buds and leaves and reduces the size of bud. It clearly is hurting my plants. As stated it is also not a natural genetic purple. Also, it is not cold here at night. After 10 years of this probably I clearly have ruled those things out which is why I stated that I had in the first post.

Sadley its teh one thats growing the best. I topped it 2 weeks ago and the new growth is coming in with the same purple taint that yours has. it is in the stem a little but mainly right where new growth is coming out. I've read that it's from the plant "locking" the phosphorus out due to cold temps. i live in ohio and we recently had temps drop to the mid to upper 40s at night and I think it affected my plant. Hopefully its not permanent. any suggestions?

Phosphorous lockup happens, and I've seen it, usually I see that from the cold nights later in the season. This, however, as much as everyone disagrees, is a fungus or disease of some sort. Cannabis literally has hundreds of diseases that attack it, including one that can spread from plant to human. This purple-grey mess mutates and wrinkles plants from top to bottom, curls and twists the leaves, makes the plant vulnerable to bud rot, and reduces the bud to tiny little mutated popcorn buds. Neem oil helps to an extent, something that absolutely would not help with phosphorous lockup. Plants that are more crowded by the native weeds get it a lot worse indicating that to an extent air flow helps, but the spores are in the area and every year it effects at least one or two to varying degrees. Some plants seems completely unaffected by it. Also, while I've been growing in that spot for 11years now, several years I've grown in another location (one at a higher location more at risk of cold snaps) and not had the problem in that area.

While I do see the similarity looking at the cover of "Hemp Diseases and Pests" in that there is purple on the new growth, if you look at my photos you will notice the mutation of the leaves even the older ones. I don't believe what I want I believe what I see. Phosphorous lockup does not destroy an entire plant. Peace.

Unlike every other poster I will maturely accept that I can't define the problem in your pictures.
However, if it is a disease or mold or fungus or any living thing I may have a simple solution (probably not, don't get your hopes up)

"The active ingredient in garlic is allicin. Allicin is a potent antimicrobial as well as an antifungal. It can kill bacteria, viruses and fungi. "

Except for the silly notion that you can "kill" viruses, the above statement is correct. That being said, perhaps you can remove said "infected area" with the help of garlic's Allicin. Simply crushing the cells of a garlic clove will release this antimicrobial which you can manipulate at your will.
