Recommendations

Hello all! I am new to Colorado and new to this site. I moved out here for my job about 3 months ago and love it here. However, I have a bit of a problem. I was born with a neck deformity that causes constant pain and has for about 10 years. I have seen every type of doctor imaginable. My condition has been determined to be inoperable and something that I will just have to live with. Okay, I can deal with that. Before I moved here, I was seeing a very compassionate older doctor for pain management and everything was going well. However, I had to find a new doctor after moving here and that is where my problems began!! Since I also need a family physician for everyday stuff, I went to a local doctor to get set up as a new patient. Here is a list of what this doctor told me: 1. I am too young to have chronic pain, 2. I am in the age group of people who are drug seekers and become addicted, 3. I must have lied to get my professional license (for my job in CO) in order to work here, 4. He alluded to calling my governing board and reporting me, 5. I am unsafe to work and care for my children. OMG!!!!!! By the end of the appointment, I was crying and made to feel like a criminal. I have considered seeing a MMJ doctor, but I am not 100% sure that I am ready to try it. I am currently in limbo trying to figure out what to do and who to see.

IMO you should drag that doctors name through the mud. I find it sickening that people like this make a living in the healthcare industry. Yeah some people abuse drugs, yeah it's usually younger folks, but They should look at patients case by case, not stick people underneath broad generalizations.

Who is he/she, or anyone for that matter to be a judge of your pain.. I would highly recommend trying to find a more compassionate dr.

For what it's worth everyone I talk to including myself, are much more functional with mmj as opposed to pharms...There are very few side effects associated with it, in comparison to pharmaceuticals. One of the main benefits is, you cannot kill yourself with cannabis ( although you may eat way more food than you had planned)..

yea, get a new doc.

there are plenty out there that have a clue.

Yes find a new Doctor ASAP, there are plenty of doctors that are compassionate and not make judgements without considering all the evidence of your medical issues.

Thanks so much for the support! This doc was a total jerk to me.....absolutely unreal!!! I am going to make an appointment for one of the MMJ docs here in FC to at least talk.

Oh yeah, I may just have to make a phone call to the medical board here in CO to discuss this doc. I am still in total disbelief that he threatened to call my governing board for my professional license and report me for taking Lortab for my neck pain at night. Yes, you heard me correctly......his threats were over a couple of Lortab a day. He didn't care that I reported the Lortab for my urine drug screen at my job and passed!!

Any recommendations on a wonderful, compassionate clinic or doctor?

this doctor is a disgrace and needs to be outed so we can bombard him with emails, letters and calls. How can someone with that attitude be a caring doctor. Someone needs to read that clown the hippocratic oath again! :jawdropper

Thanks so much for everyone's support and advice!! I have an appointment tomorrow with a doctor recommended by you guys. I am pretty excited to get to see a compassionate, nonjudgmental doc! I'll post a follow-up. Seriously, thanks for letting me vent. This community is awesome!

The biggest thing you will specifically need for the application is proof of residency (Colorado ID/license, Temp Colorado ID/license) or two of the following: out of state drivers license/ID, passport/military/tribal id AND work identification/paycheck stub/W-2 OR utility bill, medical/insurance bill or cable bill.

Other than that, there are a lot of Doctors that will write you a recommendation if you have a qualifying condition. Most recommendations are given because of severe pain. You should be able to find a number in the Westword. We have a Doc we recommend as well.

Once you have the recommendation, you send that, $90 and a copy of your ID to the state via certified mail. They have 35 days to reject you or issue a card. You can use a copy of your Dr's recommendation until then to make purchases. Make sure to save proof of mailing!

thx Releaf, 1 last question, do I need to do anything special to get a Colorado ID? Or can I walk in my first day in CO, give them my current state ID & new CO address and be good?

Anyone relocating to Colorado, surrendering a valid driver's license from another state is not required to take a written test, however a second primary form of identification establishing lawful presence, such as a birth certificate, or immigration document, must be presented along with the driver's license. The license from the other state must not have expired for more than one year. A vision screening test is required. The department has the authority, if there is good cause, to impose restrictions, limitations, or conditions which apply to the licensee's driving ability and any type of special mechanical control device required on a motor vehicle which the licensee may operate. The department may impose other restrictions applicable to the licensee as appropriate to assure the safe operation of a motor vehicle by the licensee.

If you are a Colorado resident who operates a motor vehicle or motorcycle on public streets and highways in Colorado, you must have the appropriate valid driver's license. A resident is defined as a citizen who has lived in Colorado for 90 continuous days; or upon becoming employed, whichever occurs first. If you are not a Colorado resident you can not be issued a Colorado license. Non-residents do not have to register their car in Colorado and may drive using their current, valid driver's license issued by their state or country of residence.

Driver licenses, instructional permits and Colorado identification cards can be obtained at 55 locations throughout the state. To apply for a license, instructional permit or duplicate, you must:

Submit 2 primary forms of identification. One form must establish lawful presence. Please see Identification Requirements for a complete list of acceptable identification documents.

Provide your Social Security Number.
Supply a Colorado residence address.
Pass all required examinations (written, vision and road performance).
Pay the required fee.
Be fingerprinted and photographed.
Adult Driver's Licenses are issued to persons who are at least 21 years of age and must be renewed every five years. Commercial Driver's Licenses must be renewed every four years.
