3 of a kind.. but what kind?
These three are about a month and two weeks old, my first.. Found some seeds long forgotten in a drawer and decided to put em in a pot. Three sprouted and well here I am. The first one looks like a mix of the second two plants. Its been real windy here in south florida lately so they love it when i water them, practically every day. They "perk" up when they drink so I know they are thirsty. Funny to see how fast these things grow, but not fast enough. And I dont plan on altering light cycles so I gotta wait. Two of the three have lil white hairs, and the middle one is just starting to form them, pre-flowering?
Tips? Opinions?

Nice branch growth, but that Florida sun shine im sure is responsible for that. And i can see the same traits in the second two. Do you use the white rocks to keep the sun from taking all your water? Nice an healthy looking.

I don't know if you're asking what variety they are, but that's fairly impossible to tell. Beautiful plants though. A sativa, indica mix, more indica than anything. And if they're all female that's some kinda luck. Keep us posted.

Some Hi-Res Pix.
Pic 11 is the first plant. Little white hairs...

Aren't you supposed to be preening off some of the branches? I am curious if you did it...and which ones do you preen???

3 of a kind.. but what kind?
I have noticed now more pronounced pre-flowering in the third plant. The middle one still has no pistils, but has staminate primordia, leading me to beleave they are males. But females pre-flowering before males? I thought it was the other way around. Maybe it will produce pistils. Im gonna make sure before I get rid of it(Took some pix with red arrows.).
Some vegetative growth observations:
* They grow fast! Especially with lots of summer sun, and daily watering. (They are in drain pots and it hasnt rained much where I am. Lots and lots of sun though.)
* Over-fertilizing is a big problem. If you have backyard soil that isnt filled with bugs works fine. In a month in a half i think i only fertilized twice with water soluble vigoro plant food. (The kind that can be used for vegetables.) They dont like to be overfed!! If your leaves are light green or turning brown, then fertilize. If they do that anyways then your over feeding. If ur leaftips burn or brown, and they are not too close to the lights, or it might only happen in the bottom and middle half of the plant, then your overfeeding. Rain water, tap water, and distilled water will help drain your soil of all those nuts.!!
* If your leaves droop, then water. If they dont perk up in half an hour, then your over watering. Make sure your soil doesnt dry up too much. It will impede growth.
*Keep mites under control by sprayin under the leaves. Outdoor growing without bugs is practically impossible. But the simple act of spraying under the leaves and blasting away pests is very effective. I havent used any pesticide because of chemicals. No matter how natural or safe. If i can have almost the same effect by simply spraying water under the leaves, im going to do that instead. Daily monitoring for catepillars, insects, and bugs. I spray every couple of days, or when i see lil holes in the leaves.

No im not going to prune. I dont know why people start taking of branches and leaves. The only ones i took of are at the very bottom. Because they were either deseased or full of holes. Leaves absorb sunlight. More sunlight, more energy.

dont prune your plants ppl who prune there plants are mostly indoor growers cuz some of the lights like cfl's the light does not have deep penetration and does not get to the other leaves so they prune it so it will get better light and stuff but outdoor growing you dont have to worry about doing that the sun is better than any grow light you can buy

Today I seperated the male. It sux it couldnt b a lady. But two ladies outta three aint bad I guess for my first time. Love the aroma that comes out of those plants and no buds yet.. I can imagine how bad (or good:D) its gonna smell.
Question for you guys:
How long does it take for a male plant to release pollen from when those lil pollen sacks start forming at the branch internodes?
-
3 of a kind.. but what kind?
I have read many articles about how to get rid of insects. Many people like to use chemicals and soaps to eliminate pests. How about a more natural solution like having a couple of small spiders on your plant. Spiders eat insects!! I have a couple spiders on each plant and I have noticed less bugs on my plants. I will keep on eye on them. :smokin:

Looking great. Lady bugs also work wonders. You can order them online and have them shipped to you!
Im in south florida as well but I definitely dont grow outside... laws are too strict here.
keep up the good work! :stoned:

3 of a kind.. but what kind?
I think the one on the right is beyond pre-flowering because of the pistil growth. I also noticed at the base of some of the upper leaves some purple, which from what ive read is beacuse the plant is lessining its N intake.
I agree GetThis but you cant beat the sunshine :D

So anyone have any thoughts on what strains these might be or is it too early to tell? Also from this point till the buds fully mature is about how long? Does the full on floridasunshine blasting these babies make a diffrence in potency and yield?

hey man damn those plants have gotten huge:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanx Sticky. Dont know how much bigger they will get before I see some Buds. Right now all I see Is alot of pistills and a lil purple on the leave and branches.

yes all of the florida sunshine is just gunna make your buds grow bigger and better.
All indoor lights imitate the sun, you have the most powerful grow light at your disposal, for free! Just make sure your give them as much direct sunshine as you can give them.
BTW your plants are looking beautiful man. I wouldnt worry about the purpling on the stems. Some strains do it naturally

Side note, good looking specimens, man, if I was you I'd take a mother clone and find a good male.

What strain? When the girls get big and fat you may get an idea of the strain. At this stage nobody can tell you what it is. You are still looking at 8-10 weeks until ready. This stage is a good time to think about a bigger pot and more of whatever you are now using.
Florida sunshine will make the girl more potent then the same identical plant grown in say...Maine....and less potent than a identical plant grown in say...Hawaii. :D The more direct sun the better. Yield, not so much. Yield is more genetic.
Your girls look very healthy. Well Done.
Good Luck.

wow your girls are looking great ill be watching keep up the good work and happy growing :joint1:

Looking good! Very healthy. As stated above, you should really consider transplanting into a bigger pot. They'll be much happier and won't dry out as quick. I'd go to at least a 5gal pail but the bigger the better. Send some of that sunshine up north would ya?
-
3 of a kind.. but what kind?
Ok then peeps some pros and cons of repotting at this stage. I dont want them to get too much taller(or is it that they get taller simply to reach for the light). And I def. dont wanna start hackin at the plant or makin it bend this way or that. Also dont want to cause unecessary stress by repotting.

I'd have to disagree on that one, a plant grown in maine or new york for that matter will be just as potent as one grown in florida. sunshine is sunshine.

I always thought that being closer to the equator ment better sun.
Anyways I did need a repot. All there was there was a root mas. Almost no dirt. Went and got two huge pots and three bags of gardening soil. What a mission to replant. Had to cut the bottom of the pots to get the plants outta there without breaking up the root mass. But once I cut the bottom off, I pushed the plant out of the pot and into the new one. Guessin itll take a few days to see how the plants take to the new pots. Now atleast the roots will have room to expand.

Please allow me to be the first to say "I told you so" :D
Put your girls in the shade for a couple of days. Let the roots get used to their new home. On the third day...back in the sun. The're going to be even more happy campers now.
Good Luck

Hey I was wonderin what strains turn their stems and leaves purple in early flowering? Not because of cold or anything because they have been outside in summertime. Is there too many strains to name? Or only a few have this trait.

lol, I've been there during the summer, hotter definitely, but heat stress isn't going make your plants more potent, if anything less. And potency is a genetic trait so as long as the plants are getting direct sunlight it will achieve it's potential whether in NY, maine, or florida. If there would be any difference it would be too small to measure.

While almost all strains will turn purple under cold stress, some have the genetic tendency to purple during the summer as the nights start to cool off a bit, though very few purple during the peak summer heat. Also, there are several different variations of the purple genes, for example, purple leaves and calyxes, purple leaves and green calyxes, and green leaves and purple calyxes. Quite a few strains have purple stems without any deficiency so I'd say there are too many to list.

Well see for yourself. Theres a few pix you can see the purple. They have been that way a few weeks now.
O and what are those tiny lil black bugs and how do I get rid of them. I have just been squashin them because I dont wanna spray crap on my plants.

I didn't see any noticable purpling, but pictures don't do justice. Those black dots causing all those little white dots(lol) are spider mites. Go to a garden center and pick up neem oil. It's perfectly safe and natural to use on your plants even during budding. You use it once a week and your bug problem will vanish. If you don't see any products specifically labeled "neem oil" look on the ingredients list of pesticides meant for fruits and vegetables, you're bound to find it. Usually products labeled "3-in-1 pesticide, miticide, fungicide" are just plain neem oil, but check. It's also good for many funguses that will attack those beautiful buds you've got. Just make sure you apply it in the morning so it has time to dry off and I recommend you wash them off(rain) before they're finished budding. Good luck and nice plants.

Keepin the lil fuckers under control by blastin them off.. Still refuse to spray anything on my plants. The one on the left is soo sticky that bugs dont make it outta there alive.

1 1/2 to to 2 1/2 ounces per plant would be my guess

If your not going to use anything to kill them then my prayers go out to you. They lay tiny eggs that are very hard to see. Also it doesnt matter how sticky the buds are, they will create webs on them so they can walk around. You can try and squish them all but each one lays eggs, so killing the visible mites only does so much.
I know you refuse to spray things on them, but those spider mites can become a huge problem.
-

Yea the bugs are on one plant only. And yes I know what the lil eggs look like. And no people dont worry the bug problem aint gettin outta control. I just need to know when I should start cuttin colas. I wanna smoke!!
