Independent, Christine Smith strongly supports mmj, but I don't know what her chances are in that very conservative district (Pueblo area.) Regardless of her chances, she deserves our support. Her opponent, Tom Massey (R,) you will remember, was the primary sponsor of HB10-1284. So get out your checkbooks, we have a champion in Smith. (The Dems haven't filed a candidate yet for that race.)

Christine Smith ran for President in 2008 as a Libertarian Party candidate. Her attempt to secure the nomination of the Libertarian Party ultimately failed when she was eliminated in the 1st of six ballots. She is now running for State Representative in Colorado and had some harsh words for the national Libertarian Party regarding her experiences in 2008.
Colorado??s favorite John Denver-loving libertarian is back in politics, two years after her unsuccessful run for the Libertarian Party??s presidential nomination left her angry at the process. Christine Smith, a freelance writer who penned A Mountain in the Wind ?? An Exploration of the Spirituality of John Denver in 2001 and organized a festival honoring the late singer for six years, will challenge Republican Tom Massey in House District 60, which includes Chaffee, Custer, Fremont, Park, Saguache and Pueblo counties.
Smith, who lives near Howard, was one of several Libertarian Party candidates who vied for the top spot on the ballot back in 2008. They all eventually lost to former Republican Bob Barr ?? whom many regarded as an interloper. ??What I saw at the Libertarian Party convention disgusted me,? Smith wrote at the time. ??I thought Libertarians actually believed in libertarian principles and that would always be their highest priority. I was wrong?. Obviously, the majority of Libertarian delegates cared nothing about libertarian principle when they chose Barr?.?
Today, Smith says she??s still frustrated by the national party and no longer wastes her ??time, money or work? on it. But she continues to find value in the Libertarian Party of Colorado, which still espouses the principles she believes in. And in addition to the issues of taxation, property rights and gun control, the freedom-loving Smith has recently added another passion: medical marijuana. While Massey was the ??Chong? to Senator Chris Romer??s ??Cheech? this past spring, taking the lead in hammering out new rules for pot in Colorado, Smith and other libertarians believe the drug should be legal ?? and free from all regulations. ??Tom Massey intervened in an area that was previously perfectly harmonious in our district and state, turning it into a battle that needn??t be between medical marijuana providers and the state government,? she says. ??I oppose both of the bills Ritter signed, and see no reason for the Colorado state government to ever have become involved in the matter of regulating medical marijuana as they are at this time.?
In fact, Smith says she disagrees with just about everything Massey has done in his six-year legislative career ?? except, perhaps, for his yes vote in 2007 when the Colorado Legislature approved making John Denver??s ??Rocky Mountain High? our new state song.
In 2008, Smith also participated in the non-binding Libertarian Party Presidential primary in California. She won that primary with 25.16%.

If she's a Libertarian she has a chance in a conservative district. Especially if Massey falters in any way. This year, incumbents are having their asses handed to them in the primaries. It's not politics as usual!

Citing Rep. Tom Massey as promoting "anti-taxpayer and anti-liberty legislature," Smith said, she wants to bring "a voice of liberty to legislature."
"I want the people of District 60 to have an opportunity to have a representative who truly believes in personal freedom and economic freedom," Smith said.
She said she doesn't support more fees or regulations for businesses because more licensing "hurts the small businessman and affects rural landowners."
Jan. 19, Smith said she was interviewed by Paul Molloy on his "Freedom Works" radio show about the "medical marijuana controversy in Colorado."
The radio show is heard in Tampa Bay, Fla., Little Rock, Ark., Memphis, Tenn., Branson, Mo., and parts of Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana.
During that interview, Smith said medical marijuana is a "brand new, booming business," and Coloradans "haven't asked for more regulation or for the state to get involved."
Describing medical marijuana as a "cheap medicine," Smith said many lives have been saved by it.
She made the argument prescription drugs, which require a doctor's recommendation, are not taxed.
If the government wants to tax medical marijuana, it should be legalized like liquor or cigarettes, she said.
"There needs to be consistency," she said.
Smith said, "My political views cross political party lines because my guiding principle is always freedom.
"In freedom, people enjoy the greatest opportunity to create the life they want for themselves and their family. When I think of Colorado, I think of freedom."

yea. this is a year to make some contributions. If you never have before, now is the time. $50 or $100 or even the limit of $200 goes a long way in small campaigns. Small campaigns are what matter to the Cannabis Movement (whatever that is!).

If she's conservative--in Pueblo she probably has a shot--especially if she is pro--mmj.
Massey--everyone could tell was very anti-mmj--through past statements and had to be dragged--kicking and screaming to muster up this bill. I believe he is at least 50% responsible for cities and counties being able to ban mmj dispensories.

Hey Bear, just struck me as funny about going door to door for her, many many folks that are in her district prefer their privacy and do not take very kindly to unnanounced visitors showing up whatever their purpose is. Anyways, just got a chuckle from that ( must be the medicine ). I contacted her campain and am going to volunteer to help her out. I will have more to say after meeting/talking with her but I encourage any and all to get involved in the upcoming elections, that may be our only hope to get things back down to a personal manageable level, otherwise WELCOME TO MEGA-BUD, your friendly one stop medical marijuana shop, we lace it to keep our customers happy ( and to ensure they are repeat customers ) Try our bud, never had addictive properties before, but you should try it now!

I hear that Bear, one of them already is ahead of the game when they purchased 50,000 acres in Humboldt County several years ago. Prime growing property as soon as they get the go-ahead.

I see nothing that says who the Denver Metro \ other areas candidates that are pro MMJ or Pro legalization. Does any one know of the other people that can be voted in to office? The only thing that I see I can vote on so far is to allow dispensaries in my city(Aurora:(). I would like to support the right people, just need to know who they are.
Oh and thank you to all who post here; I DO know who the bad people are!
