New Grower, Long time smoker. Newbie Grow Log.
I have created several threads with lots of questions.. So I decided to start a grow log, and I will post any questions here.
I have 6 outdoor plants growing directly in the ground. I have grown one plant in the past, which turned out to be a dud. Three of these are clones of skunk strain. The other three were seeds I had from some good smoke that I just threw out there and they are survivors.
I have been feeding them Fox Farm nutes (with some mild nute-burn after the first feeding), watering only when dry, and they receive 12 hours of sunlight, 6-7 hours of that being direct sunlight. One of the clones I received as a gift, and it had started flowering when I got it, so hopefully it will return to vegetative state. I am new at this, so really not sure how old the clones are. The little guys that I sprouted from seeds are about 2 weeks old.
I welcome any and all suggestions, as I could use all the help I can get! I have posted some pics of them. I didn't take a pic of the smallest one, as it is just barely sprouting.
Happy growing!

Great man, just update here, so i dont need to hunt for ya. Plants look good. Just start out slow with the nutes and water in between. If you think they are burnt, just give water for a week, then cut back on amount given and add small amounts by the way the plant reacts to the ferts. So after a week of plain water, start your nutes at 1/4 and feed a couple times a week. After a week of nice growth, move to 1/2 strength. If it is still going strong just build on what i said, till full strength. You can feed molasses now also, as it will give good micro nutes to your plant. Black Strap un sulfured i think is best, but i used something that was un sulfured last year, not sure of brand and was fine with it. But iv been told the other would work better and you can get it any place.
Keep up the great work man:rasta:

Today I invested in a soil test kit, and oddly enough the Nitrogen level was really low. So, relying on the test being accurate, I fed my plants a 1/4 strength of Grow Big & Big Bloom today. The last time I gave nutes was a week ago, and I thought that I may have over done it, but three tests on the soil says otherwise. Perhaps it was a N deficiency and not nute burn? Well, we'll see..
Also, the pH was 7 in all three tests. So hopefully after some nutes, and some rain today, they will perk up and I will start to see some growth on the clones! Keeping my fingers crossed!

They like the N while in veg, plus those ferts are good ones:thumbsup:You might add a couple tbls of molasses to your water. They like the sugars and other micro nutes that is in it.
Good job man, looking great:greenthumb::weedpoke:

OK, I'll go out and get the best organic molasses I can find! Can I give them the molasses at the next watering? Or should I give them the molasses asap? I will take some pics in the next couple days, just to show an update.
When can I expect some real growth on the clones? I put them in the ground over a week ago and I haven't seen any real growth...
Thank you to everyone, you have all been so helpful! Eventually, I will no longer be the clueless, over critical newbie, and I can help others!

Give 2 tbls per gallon of water and you can use it every watering if you want. Its just going to give minerals to the plant to help it grow a bit more healthy. Mine seems to like it and i use it a lot. Were the clones rooted yet, cuz im not sure. Also, iv never really had a chance to get clones, not where im at. But if they are rooted, just give 1/4 strength nutes and as they get bigger add to the nutes. Your doing fine man, just keep doing what your doing and your all good:thumbsup:. Soon as the roots get comfortable, you will see them shoot up:hippy:

Here are some pics of what's going on. As you can see, the larger plants (which are the clones) are yellowing from the bottom up, and the close up pic of the burnt leaf tips are them as well. Don't know if that is nute burn, or under fert... The top leaves are green and healthy. Not heat burn because it's only been cloudy and 65 degrees tops here.
The smaller plants are the seeds I threw in the ground. They are growing like crazy, and are fairly healthy, but they are being eaten up by something?! As you can see in the pics, there are little holes all over the leaves, which popped up literally over night. I have been spraying them with soapy water as an insecticide (recommended to me), could that be causing the holes? Or is it just not working as a pesticide and they are getting eaten?
Hopefully the pics will help you guys help me diagnose them. Better than my attempts at describing the situation. Any help is appreciated.
p.s. LetsSeeYa, I'm not sure what you mean by rooted? I was told by the vendor that they were "root bound and ready to go in the ground." Don't know if that helps...

Keep these charts as i have, they can help you when trouble shooting. But, i believe ya need a bit of nitrogen. I would give your plants a shoot of ferts and they should green up for ya. If ya look at these charts iv gotten off this site, you can see that N is your issue, but in veg they use a lot.
Oh and ''rooted'', just meant, if the clones had roots? But, you said the vendor told you they were ''root bound'', which means re pot or plant now. I guess i didn't know you bought it and maybe took it from one of your plants.:wtf: My bad man:hippy:
Make sure you put the soapy water on them at night, because the sun will use the drops of water for a magnifying glass to burn holes in your leaves. So, just apply at night and your fine.

So, after some trials and tribulations, my plants are finally taking off! I've got the watering and nute schedule down pat, and I have been letting them do their thing. I even added another clone, Blue Dream, which is in the pot. I decided since this is a learning grow, that I would put one in a pot, just to see the difference. I have a couple questions though:
1) As you can see I put the small Blue Dream clone in a pot, is the pot an ok size for now? Or should I have started with a smaller pot?
2) If you look at the pics, there are two with my hand behind the leaf; the smaller/skinnier leaves are that of clones, and the bigger/fatter leaves are that of seeds I simply put in the soil. My question is: why do the plants look so different??? The clones are much darker green and smaller leaves. Whereas, the plants I grew from seeds are naturally a lighter green color, and have much bigger leaves... Does this denote a different strain? Indica vs. Sativa? "Brown" vs. "Green" bud?? I've looked at many pictures on line and have yet to find plants similar in leaf size to these.
Any feedback is appreciated. Happy growing!

it all has to do with genetics of the plants are those 2 plants with ya hands in there are they 2 diff strains or are they the same

They are different. The plant with the smaller leaves is a clone I purchased, and the other was a seed I had from some decent smoke. They just look so different...

yeah thats cuz they are 2 diff types of weed every strain is diff i think only clones look exactly like the mother plant when they are done

Cool, thanks. What about the pot I have the littlest one in? Is it too big?

well it kinda is but im sure the stress from trans planting it so soon after being rooted will prob do more harm than good id just leave it in there and let it do its thing till its time to put it in a bigger pot

...to help balance the molasses, my hydro supply guy suggested some calmag, from biocare/organicare, which seemed to make a difference as soon as I added it.\
The thing I LOVE about molasses is that it is available in nearly every grocery store, and the price on the good stuph is under four bux. The calmag shite was like eleven bux.
Mmmmm. Yummy calmag and molassesssssss arhaharhaeahegherherrgh...

OK, so it's been a while (about a month or so), and my slow-to-start plants have taken off!! I have posted some recent pics. I was being over-attentive when they first began to grow, but the more I have left them alone, the more they have grown! They are now almost 7 feet tall even though I have topped them repeatedly to keep them short and bushy. I am still feeding them Fox Farm nutrients, and watering as needed. I have 4 clones, and 2 that I grew from seeds.
The two I grew from seeds are playing with my mind.. I have been keeping an eye on their sex, and they appeared to be 100% female until this morning.. I am looking at the stalk of the plant, and their are red hairs. However, I am not finding white pistils (like with my clones), the pistils are red. And their is ONE tiny (almost hard to see with the naked eye) ball that has formed next to the hair/pistil.
I guess my question is: How do I know whether or not this is a calayx, or a seed pod? How long will it take before the "grape bunches" appear and it is obvious if they are male? And how much time do I have to determine the correct sex before it pollenates my females?
I have been doing lots of research on line, but I am still questioning whether or not these will turn into males.. I wish I could post some close up pics, but my camera isn't focusing close enough. There are definitely NO seed pods, or "grape bunches." But the one lonesome ball is screwing with my mind.. Maybe someone can post pics of their experience with early males???? Any help is appreciated!
Happy Growing!

OK, so after doing some more research I looked at the little ball formation that I noticed with a magnifying glass. And they are indeed BOTH FEMALE! :D Yay! I looked, and the little ball had one or two white pistils emerging. If I hadn't looked with a mag. glass I might have pulled them!
Thank goodness for the internet!
Happy Growing!!!
