AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
As promised. 6 gallon bubbleponics. 400W Lumatek E-ballast. GH flora and bloom nutes. My strains are as follows:
2x - Jack the Ripper
2x - AK48 feminized
My AK's started a week early. The jacks have just popped out of their seeds. I haven't added any nutes yet, and probably won't until three weeks after the Jacks bloom, just to be safe. My light is on 250W right now, getting accustomed from the Aerogarden the AK's started in. Pictures as follows.

Good idea not starting nute right away. To many people think there seeds need nutes right away, when the seed itself have everything they need for 30 days. I just got one of those tubs and cant wait to set it up to grow 4 plants like yours. Is that a cfl or hid lighting and whats your plans to flower with? Also are you running veg at 24/0 or 18/6?
Looks great man:rasta:

AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
I have a 400W Lumatek switchable. Right now it's got a Lowes special MH bulb :smokin: haha and for flowering I have a Hortilux Eye HPS.
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
And also 18/6. I was running 20/4 but they're a little small for that. I may increase later depending on how they react in the next few days.
Also, I've been putting up mylar, and am working on light-leak-proofing the set-up. The mylar has helped a little, but there are still some spaces in between that need tightening. All in all it's been a pretty productive day. Time to relax :rastasmoke:.
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
Mylar is not light proof. Use panda for that or black plastic.
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
Yeah I noticed that after holding it up in front of my light. Thanks for the info on the plastic -- I'll have to go get some of that today as well as another fan. Light-leaks are no good.
There is significant growth since yesterday, but not enough to really show off. I'll probably wait until tomorrow to take more pics assuming they've come a little further. Still keeping my lights set on 250W until I get a little more foilage to take in more.
Stay tuned.

Ph is staying strong at 6.5. I used tap water that sat out for a day and a half. Updated pictures will be following in an hour or two.

First JTR popped above the substrate today. I'll have pics up day after tomorrow. Switched lights to 400W. We'll see how big of a difference it makes soon.

Very nice pictures DJ. At first I wasn't too excited about the freebies that came with my auto's but then I started researching and JTR looks like a great strain. In fact I was so excited about those I completely dropped my auto's and decided I wanted to keep a clone around of Jack all the time. Hopefully one of my two will be females, but only time will tell :p.
It looks like you're going to have a lot of fun off of that yield skizzle. Keep up the good work, and if you have any advice let's hear it!

haha wow! i got these 2 jack the ripper clones from a dispensary, i recently just took a cutting from each one to clone them so hopefully i'll have some JTR for years to come aswell!
They've been under 160W of floresent lights for 8weeks veg.. the only reason i let them veg for so long is because I was in the process of getting a 400W HPS system, just purchased yesterday actually.. so as soon as I get my clones rooted I'm going to put them in flowering.. hopefully like you said they will have a nice size yield!
This is my first time using a hydro setup I used the 6inch rockwoll cubes up until they needed more room, so I purchashed a rockwoll mat and just put them in that! so far they have been wonderful!
as far as nutes I've been using Fox Farms: Hydro GROW BIG and will probably follow up using Fox Farms: Hydro Big Bloom
so as far as advice i'm just trying to give you some kind of idea as to maybe what size your looking forward to!

Back with more pics guys. My ak's are looking a little yellow. I'm thinking that may be from choking back on the nutes? Also, my JR's didn't even finish their cotelydon lol but oh well I think they should be just fine. I'm seeing a little stunted growth, but if you guys have any advice I'd gladly take it. I'm going to dump the res tomorrow probably and start them all on a very weak nute solution (probably half of the Lucas solution.) Let me know what you think!
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
Also, my water pump's tubing feels like it has a coat of slime on it. It's almost soapy, like basic. Could this be due to light getting in my reservoir? I just flushed and refilled today. Hopefully that will do a little something about it.
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
Added a light nute solution on the 18th, then added a little to it yesterday. Also trimmed away the yellow on the lower sets of the leaves, and they are all looking great today. Root mass is incredible. Thinking of supercropping to see if it works. Anyway, I'll probably update with pictures, and after that if there is no feedback I'll probably close this as nobody seems that interested in my ScrOG :stoned:.
Hope everyone is growing well

AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
Are you using clear hoses or Black ones for the pumps? Clear hoses make water get in there and it does a coat of algae on them. I try and keep my water temps a lil down in my bucket as well as keep the ph adjusted as best as possible so I don't have to swap out the RES as often. I'm only running one DWC right now but plan to get a recirculating setup going soon. Love the set up man can't wait to see the end results.
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
I'm using clear hoses. Is it something to be concerned about?
Yea I can't wait to see how it turns out. I've been stealthing out my ops for the past few days, and I think it's hidden pretty well now. My temp is rising because of me closing it in a little tighter, but I don't think it's any hotter than 80 degrees now. Ph has been staying at 6.5 since last time I checked it, but since I changed out res yesterday I'll check it out today. All new growth is strong and green, none of that yellow shit that came after prolonging the nutes. So far I have seen no nute burn, so I'm guessing my measurements went ok. Going to top off the res, as it's about a gallon or two short.
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
whats up??
You can get black hose cheap at petco. The clear acts almost like a fiber optic cable... bringing in the light to your res. That slime on it is probably from the light.
PH 6.5 is a bit high for hydro. Its perfect for soil. Try aiming for 5.8...
All that yellowing was definitely from lack of nutes. My hydro girls always want nutes much younger than soil because the lack of nutes in plain water compared to dirt. I will use 1/4 str nute solution when they are small and watch how they react.
Theres also no need to cut off those yellow leaves. They are yellow because the plant is using up all the energy stored in them. When you cut them off its basically a waste. When the plant is done with them it will fall off.
Well I hope I could help!
Good luck with the grow!

AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
OK just read some more...
ak48 is automatic and JTR is not.
In my oppinion it wasnt a good idea to put them both in the same tub. Automatics grow best under 20/4 light schedule from seed to finish. The JTR will veg just fine under the 20/4 BUT it will be stuck in there after the autos finish. The roots will all be tangled up so the only way is to cut the autos at the base of the stem. That is going to leave the rotting roots of the autos inside the res with the JTR. That will probably cause major problems down the road... probably right when the JTR starts looking yummy in flower.
Plus you will be needing to give the autos flowering nutes... the JTR will still be in veg getting massive doses of flowering nutes...
If the roots arent tangled completely yet I would think about seperating them into two seperate res'.
Oh ya one more thing... I wouldnt try supercropping or any method of training/topping the autos. It will cause them to get stressed for awhile and stop growing. Autos time are basically set so if you slow their growth they will still start budding at 3-4 weeks but be much smaller than they could be.
Just my .02 cents... Hope it all works out for you!
remember to pass it this way my friend! :stoned:

I don't believe the AK-48 is auto, just the La Diva, which I have not planted yet.

AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
Sorry I just read your first post as well. Thanks on the info about the tubing I will definitely switch that out this weekend. I had already trimmed out the leaves but will definitely keep your advice in mind in the future when I miss a feeding. I also invested in some chemicals for adjusting the pH.
Be sure to stop by soon, as more pictures will follow. I need all the help I can get.

Moar pics.
Slight nute burn on the JR's, which was to be expected as I had to start them on nutes kind of early to compensate for the AK's (my first mistake. it won't happen again.) However everything seems to be doing much better. My AK2 is looking a little yellow and droopy and I'm not sure why, but maybe it will look a little better tomorrow. We'll see.

AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
All plants have pretty much caught up to one another except JR#2, whose top has turned yellow. I'm not sure if it's dead but it's looking that way. Nodes are coming in nicely and I topped the other three today, which are about 5 inches tall. Trimmed some fan leaves as well to promote light exposure to lower parts. This is because of the ScrOG process, I need as much juice going to the nodes as possible so hopefully they will be as tall as the tops themselves. The topping should help with that as well.
Pictures will be posted tomorrow. Happy smoking

If you have 2 different strains in the same tub, you might run into issues. One strain might be a heavy feeeder, while the other likes small amounts of fertalizer.
This can become a problem during flowering, because it's when you bump up your PPM's and use the most nutrients. You could burn the shit out of one strain, while the other strain is still getting underfed.
whats your PH? If you check PH and it has gotten more acidic, the plants are using more water than nutrients. If you check you PH and it has risen since the last time, the plant is using more nutrients than water. This kind of tells you whether to use more nutrients, or to tone its down a bit. I like to push plants until they burn a little at the tips, thats when i know im feeding them as much as they can take.
Also, its not neccessary but a Cheap PPM pen would do you some good. Its the only way to really know how concentrated your solution is.

AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
PPM has been rising gently (was 550 last time I checked), while pH has been falling (6.0), over the past few days, so I added water yesterday to even it out. Noticed first pistils on a few nodes today, so I'm pretty excited. So far I haven't seen any nute burn except on two leaves on my biggest AK, so I'm thinking about bumping up the nutes a bit. More pics will be coming Friday, and I'll update with definite PPM and pH.
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
P.S. Wait til you guys see how much they've come up and filled out. I've been trimming a significant amount each day.
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
PPM has been climbing, and the H2O has been disappearing as quickly as I can let it sit (for Cl dissipation purposes.) Pistils are visible, anywhere from 2-8 per node. I finished my first week of flowering tuesday, so hopefully growth is right on track.
Noob question. My lights go out at eight A.M., which is usually before I wake up since I work late. When I do wake up (around ten A.M.) I usually turn on my light for a quick five minutes to examine growth and what-not. Is this bad? I didn't think it would be harmful, but then I realized maybe the plant is considering it all one light cycle, which would put it over 12 hrs. Any advice is gladly accepted.
Now for some vague pics.
The one with all of the leaves is usually what I trim every day from the top of the plant to allow light penetration.
I think I mentioned this earlier, but I have decided to not make this a scrog, as I am still getting used to the growth of the plants (since this is my second grow.)
-
AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
I also forgot to mention that both JTR's turned out to be female (whew.) They are a little slower in showing signs than the AK's were, but I'm sure it was because AK's are "fast flowering." Also when I switched light cycles and bulbs, They grew a lot vertically, and seemed to stretch quite a bit. Is this normal? I'll update more pics in a minute.
Thanks again

AK-48 and Jack the Ripper 400W ScrOG
More pics of stretching and the forest. I can't even really move them anymore.

Got out the pocket microscope today. They are very vague pictures and took me many tries to get them as "clear" as they are. Pictures were taken on a phone lol.
Anyway, pic one is the top of a top. The white strings are either incoming pistils or normal hairs associated with growth, as the ones on the bottom sides of the leaves.
Picture two is of the incoming trichome development. As you can barely see, they are still quite clear, but it's a good sign anyways.
I took these pictures merely for the entertainment of those who would appreciate them. If you're here to tell me how shitty my camera is, you can shove off anyways, as I'm probably doing more to show the development of these plants than you are, and have little time to worry about camera settings and other pointless shit.
As always, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is always appreciated.
Enjoy:rastasmoke:
P.S. Hopefully stretching will end soon, as I can't raise my light anymore, and I'm looking forward to bringing you guys some pics with some REAL results.

Turns out one of the JTR's were a male. Here's a pic. Cut it down today, and Tuesday will make week 4 in flowering. Lots of pistils coming in, and everything is filling out nicely.
I bet the remaining three will appreciate the felling of the male JTR. Now they have a little bit more room to stretch :D.

Forgot to attach pic of male flowers.

Well, today makes week four of flowering, and I'm here to show results.
