First time growing, input wanted
Hey, so I just bought some seeds and have a couple questions.
1. The seeds I ordered were rated medium growing difficulty. I was wondering what the difference between a medium difficulty and lets say an easy growing plant, and if I'm supposed to treat the growing process differently or not?
2. I don't know whether to treat this plant as an indoor or outdoor plant. I'm growing it in my treehouse, which is five feet wide, six feet long, and about 6 feet tall. It has walls, and a white tarp roof. The walls go up about 3 1/2 feet, and the tarp is layed over a center beam that's about a foot and a half/two feet taller than the top of the wall. That creates two open triangular windows on each side that are 2 feet tall and three wide. Basically I'm wondering whether or not this will provide enough sunlight, or will I need some light systems?
Unfortunately I have virtually no money to invest in this now, because of some financial problems. But my moms an avid gardener and therefore all the nutrients, soil, and other materials I need I already have access to, but I'm worried that I'll have to buy a lighting system.
But because the plants will be potted in dirt, not hydroponically, I was thinking I might be able to leave the plants in the treehouse overnight and such, then bring them out to bask in the sunlight during the day.
3. Here is how I was going to go about it. I was going to germinate them for 24-48 hours by placing them on a wetted paper towel on a plate, then covering them with another wetted towl and an upside down plate. (how often should I mist them with distilled water??). Then I was going to get three (growing three plants, one per pot) two gallon pots filled with sterile dirt, and place the germinated seeds 1/2 inch under the surface, then loosely and carefully fill the hole with dirt.
Now that's where I get confused. How often should I water it? Will it be able to stay in the pot until it's fully grown and ready for harvest? What else should I know about the rest of the growing process?
That's all the questions that I can think of right now, I know it's an earful but I'm really excited about doing this and would like as best results as I can.
I'm not so worried about getting super rank dank weed, I would be fully happy with a supply that is smokeable and will get me high lol (for my first grow, just to get used to the process).
Input anyone? I would greatly appreciate any feedback anyone has to offer, and thanks you in advance :).

I'm on my first grow too, so definitely no expert but...
If you are only using sunlight you will be waiting untill the sunlight hits 12 hrs of sun, 12 hrs of dark before it will start to flower. Don't know if that is a problem for you or not.
I have read elsewhere, but don't know from experience that bringing a plant outside for light works. The thing is you will be tied to the plant at sunrise and sunset for the summer. Don't miss a day here and there, and don't bring it outside out of sequence. IE don't bring it out at 7am one day, 8:30am the next, and then 7:45 the next day. Same goes for lights out. Unless you can handle that rigid schedule yourself, get a timer and some lights.
I would suggest, especially if you have access to a ton of gardening supplies, planting in a small pot, and working your way up via transplants to bigger pots as it grows. Don't make the mistake that I made and plant it in a big pot that it will end up flowering in. You will find out why in the next paragraph :D
Other than that I would suggest reading through this faq. It will answer some questions, and probably raise a few more for you. Do yourself a favor though and read the info that pertains to you, and even more will be helpful.
If someone else gives you some other info that conflicts with some of mine, take their advice first :D

Oh alright, thanks for the input. I live in Canada so I don't know how much the price would differ, but how much do you think I would have to spend to get the lights and timers going?
And where would I look for them? I have no idea where to start with the lights lol

All humility aside, that's good advice up dere from F.F..:postgood:
I just dropped in to ask If you have considered opening the tree house roof for the duration of the grow?
Jus' roll it up and keep one eye on the weather.
Stitch on some velcro and it becomes a one door convertible, yah?:D
If you use lights in the tree house, it could attract unwelcome attention.
I'm jus' sayin'
Not everyone is ethical.:(
Long story.
And the very best advice you can get is all in the archives here.
It saves alot of Q&A and will he'p you spot bad advice before it costs you.
If you run into problems after reading the archives, you will know who, and how, to ask fo' he'p.
Best of luck on your grow, brah.

Hey, thanks for all the replies. And about opening the treehouse up, I don't know if I could do that without damaging the frame. Just the way it's put together we ribbed the tarp with braces that are further braced onto the walls (I did that so the tarp roof would withstand slightly higher winds and snow, considering you never know how saskatchewan will end up weather wise :P). However, I do have an opening on the south side of the house for the door, which actually opens up about half the side of the shorter ends. I was looking into it yesterday and I think it might even be able to get direct sunlight in there :)

Another thing I was wondering about is our weather. Because saskatchewan (prarie provinces, Canada) is known to have moderate to high winds, and the sky can be overcast for like a whole week in a row. If I didn't have any back up lights how much would factors like those come into play?

Kinda strain dependent.
Northern strains expect dat kine sing.:)
If you wish to grow tropical strains, it would be much better to have lights on a timer.
It will also allow a harvest every month if you plan for it.
Canadian sunlight? One harvest per year, with luck.:(
'Course, your long day summers can grow monsters.
What kine lights also depends on several variables.
What do you pay for power by da Kwh?
Could you light-proof the treehouse to completely block outside light?
What's your budget?
Long term growing, or just a few grows?
How many plants?
Once you know those things, lighting choices become obvious.
My power cost is $.50 per Kwh. I plan to grow for at least 20 more years, and ambient temperature is about 80 F., year round.
That's why I use LEDs.
Even though the initial lamp cost is quite high, it amortizes rapidly with my greedy power company.:D
You, could probably benefit from the excess heat generated by MH or HPS lamps to warm the grow room in da winter.
Out of pennies for the mo'.
Will pontificate later, upon request.:D

I've heard of closets, basements, attics...but in a treehouse...? How old are you, anyway?
Since your mom is an avid gardener, have you bothered to ask her any of these questions? Have you got her permission to grow on her property?

I'm 19, and the reason I'm thinking of using a treehouse is because it's away from the house and few people would consider looking in a tree house. And I have gotten permission. If you don't mind me asking how are those questions applicable?

Personally, I was poking fun at the situation as you were describing it, which sounded like an adolescent hiding his porn in the treehouse.
But regardless, the applicability of the questions is, that this is a medical cannabis-oriented site, and there are some rules stating...well here ya go, you can have a look for yourself:
-Messageboard Rules-
There's also a post here somewhere called "Growing in your parents home", I think. Good reading. Not sure where it's kept, but I've seen it around. You can do a search for the post by Bob Bong. Tiz around here somewhere.

Despite your disrespect, I'm currently applying for medicinal and won't be growing unless I get it. And you should really learn who a person is before shooting off your mouth.

I didn't mean that as a threat, only. That I'm dissapointed people like you actually are around. Came here with simple informative questions and got compared to a porn hiding kid. Enjoy floating through life as the guy who peaked in high school.
P.s. You sound like a cop.

Hilarious!! "You sound like a cop!".
Anyways replying to your one unanswered question about strain difficulty, every strain is different and can easily be prone to molds and bug infestation. I had a bunch of mothers getting attacked by thrips and 2 strains out of 6 stayed healthier than the others. Strains can be resistent and strong to some elements while others are prone to herm/mold or can be weak to a pest
and about the tree house that's away from your place is dangerous. Other kids or hunters prolly know it's there and may just go there to skulk around. Your better off using a gps and a trail. Rusty is giving you shitcause if I heard about tree house idea I and everyone here will think the same. I would be cool to rusty because he is a true experienced grower on this forum and is the type of person to help you out when your having problems. He is very well respected in this forum

Disrespect...? Oh you poor misinformed child. You aint seen disrespect...yet. If you last here long enough (doubtful at this point) and learn how to play by CanCom rules, perhaps you'll learn:
A) How to sucessfully bring your meds to harvest.
B) When to keep your mouth shut, or at least how not to let your adolescence shine so brilliantly.
C) That punks like you are a dime a dozen, and are used as target practice. (yup...my rep function still hit the mark)
D) That idle threats are just that...idle.
CanCom Cop. I like it. Any chance I could get that under my username?
( oh...and good luck  )

first off...read all the outdoor threads you can find regarding your situation! next...you need to realize how many "kids" before you have come on here wasting space asking juvenile questions because they want to grow a few plants out back sneaking a grow....growing in a tree house is a great idea for stealth....but as you comment on your situation how can you blame others for asking questions....your responses do show your youth getting bent out of shape instead of laughing and getting to the point of why you came asking for advice here....learning to grow!! :smokin:

Lol thanks eveyone else for your input. And call me a kid all you want on here, I really don't care if or how I'm judged. Especially by someone who I'm sure would only have the balls to do it over a forum.
Lol and as for being cool with rusty, I did come here for help and he might as well have spit in my face. You're lucky you don't live in a place like I do lmao I see cocky ass holes like you making headlines everyday.
I apologize if I cAme off rude to everyone else , I do appreciate the rest of your advice.

By the sound of your prepubescent pot-shots...yes...you do give a damn. Saving face can be such a harsh thing. But if you are going to get your panties in a wad over my inital statements, then you deserve however it is I made you feel. I mentioned I was poking fun at your statements and you get all personal. Buddy, your kind is, as previously stated...a dime a dozen.
How does this make me feel, you might ask...:D? Well, you are just as disappointing as all the other members with more attitude than brains. More defensiveness (Overcoming Defensiveness than thanks.
Anyway...gotta run. Tell mommy Rusty said "hi", and I'm sorry for not handling her baby with kid-gloves.

Lol you reallly think you can offend me with a repetitive argument like that? You obviously don't have anything else which Is why you feel the need to throw big words and complicated wording out there hoping someone will respect your what, knowledge of the English language? Lmao it sure takes a brave man to insult someone on a forum. Now I'm sure you'll come back with a comment you thought about all day to piss me off, but I ain't that guy and won't inflate your ever growing ego by responding again lol

So you would rather be cool and stupid than good looking and intellectually adept? Good luck with that.
I'm not sure you've noticed...but you are the one that wanted help, and you've muddied-up your own attempts at direct, honest answers by thinking you deserve more than you get, and that someone spit in your face. We don't cater to children, and we don't advocate growing behind their parents' back...regardless of the tantrums they throw. Really, it's just too bad if you feel assaulted by a couple of simple counter-questions regarding site policies and rules.
If you want respect in here, it's not me you need to respect...it is the membership, all of which follow the same rules and courtesies. The disrespect has come from you and will continue to be your downfall if you exhibit this anal behaviour.
Been a slow week here, I can do this back-n-forth thing all day if you wish...but that gains you nothing but the wish that you'd paid more attention in school, and less time in your treehouse.
Bummer that you are not very good at arguing with your elders. Your attempts are borderline humorous, albeit lacking in effect or flair.
See ya around.

congrats on trashing your own thread buddha
you could've gotten some good advice except you chose to keep arguing instead of getting on with the subject....other members are not going to help with your treehouse if you keep pissing vinegar :wtf:

Lol to clarify I was an honor roll student and mo longer in school. Also, I had permission to grow as long as I got legal permission to do so. Further more it turns out I won't be growing anyways because my Medicinal application was denied and I have no intention of breaking the law. So I won't be needing help anyway. Moderators feel free to delete this account as I won't be needing it anymore
