tinctures are kind of gimmicky. not really worth the price. I tried some ok homemade stuff, tasted like honey. Id rather smoke full melt bubble
tincture's nice- for it's purpose.
the glycerin tinctures taste better but the alcohol (green dragon) really seems to hit you right between the eyes.
i use the alcohol tincture to make candies, a tasty and efficient way to medicate anywhere/anytime.....
i would recommend, rather than shopping for a brand, get some trim or cheap buds and a bottle of glycerin from whole foods/wherever and make one you can brag about.
I do not use tictures but my son-inlaw does not medicate any other ways but tictures and ediables.
Truer words were never spoken about the inconsistancy of this product. It seems ediables have come a long way in the last year and tictures are getting more consistant but have a ways to go.
I have purchased tictures from several places in town and have found plant matter, consistancy and textures to be varied and different. Taste and effectiveness also varies.
Recently I have found one that seems to be very consistant from Herbal Connections in Cherry Creek. I can not remember the brand and the bottle is impossible to read really. This is a flavored alcohol ticture and is sweeten with either honey or agave. Because of some extensive dental surgery both my husband and myself have used these very effective tictures. Smoking is our favored method of medicating but with the dental surgery that was not possible.
Wish I could remember the name but I am sure the folks at Herbal Connections in Cherry Creek can assist. After purchasing tictures there 4 or 5 times I can say each time the product looked tasted and worked exactly the same way.
Tinctures are often snake oil......and you can't judge it by inspection like you can w/ bud of course.
The best I've had is Sugar Leaf Premium Tincture, the 2X(double strength). Glycerin based, purified by four filterings.
Don't mix tincture. Apply directly under your tongue w/ a dropper. The effect is much different than edibles, closer to smoking but quite a smoother buzz. Fairly quick reacting within 15 minutes.
I've experimented with tincuture w/ no other smoking or any other medical application to obtain pure results. With the Sugar Leaf product, a small 1/2 oz bottle can last me a week (I am a low to mid medicator). You can pack this in your toiletry bag & fly with it (just remove the label to be safe). There are situations/environments where it is so hard to smoke & tincuture works well for that.
If you overindulge, you get sleepy but also a quick, very low-level psychedelic passage - which is quite cool. Then your dreams are unreal & crystal clear. This last part shocked me because regular to heavy smokers have always told me they dream less when medicated than when not medicated.
I can't even picture smoking the equivalent dose I did w/ that tincture experience but if I did, I would be out and probably not remember any part of a dream. Would be interested in other's experience w/ different tinctures sans bud or w/ bud.
I really get fantastic pain relief for my lumbar spine with green dragon, I tried it at a dispensary in Denver and was a believer from that moment on. I live 3 hours from the metro and after that drive I went to a dispensary for some sort of relief from the damn pain,( Cannabis Medical ) I believe is the name of the place and the owner had me try a dropper under my tongue. In less than ten minutes my back pain was gone. It was a glycerin based tincture and I purchased a small bottle ( $25 at the time for what was probably a half fluid ounce ) and used until it was gone and worked well on my pain. When it was gone, a day or so later my pain started coming back hard and not wanting to drive 6-7 hours I looked it up on the net and found out how to make it, I use everclear or 151 and a bag of trim for $ 50.00, can produce a good 8-12 ounces for a very reasonable price. However I have noticed as well, the potency is really dependent on the quality of trim, if I can ever afford it I will make a batch out of good bud. With the pontency variation I just had to self titrate and adjust as needed based on the batch. I find I can function well, not much of a head high at all, but a fantastic pain relieving body high, but it is strange as it seems to have the best effect only on my back pain, some ( very little ) relief for my pains in other areas, and as a sleep aid, a dropper full before bed and I am out in 20 minutes for a decent nights sleep
Tintcures work excellent. You should make your own using grain alchohol. If you can get Everclear or Clear Spring. You used to be able to get 190 proof but that may not still be readily available.
My friend found some and added buds of killer Afghan Goo. He let it sit for two months then strained the alchohol. He added more buds and repeated the process.
Now two drops of tincture from an eye dropper will get you high in just minutes.
It tastes terrible and is nice in a fruit drink.
Another person I know made tincture and added keefe at the end sort of like Keefeschlager. It was effective too.:stoned:
A brand of tincture that I have found very effective for me is one produced by Dixie Elixirs.
I have yet to find any decent tinctures in any dispensaries. Of course most of what you find in dispensaries are glycerin based. Personally I don't see how a glycerin based tincture can be effective - what are the compounds binding too?
Now I've been making some homemade tincture, alcohol based, that is incredible. It's doesn't cloud your head, great for body aches & pains, and just a general good overall well-being feeling.
For me it's not practical to use product purchased from a dispensary as that would just drive the cost of making it too high. I only use what I grow or what friend's have given to me. I use a combination of both bud & sugarleaf. Personally though using just bud gives the tincture the best flavor & effect. Using sugarleaf gives it a very "green" taste due to the abundance of chlorophyll.
I basically use the Green Dragon method, but have over time altered it to improve the taste. Regular straight green dragon simply can't be taken directly. Too much burn & god awful taste!
I've had several acquaintances who run dispensaries ask if I would be interested in mass producing it for them to sell at retail. After calculating how much I spend in time & money in making and how much it would have to sell at retail so they could turn a small profit, I don't think there's a big enough market for a nearly $75-100/oz tincture.
I do provide my patients a 4oz bottle of tincture monthly, but most of what I make is just for myself & my girlfriend.

we make it at home with Everclear using the green dragon method. Green Dragon isn't going to produce a noticible high if you are a regular user of edibles.
thc pills (finely ground bud, coconut oil capisules) are perhaps the most medicating method.
The problem with ingesting my herb is I find it sends my tolerance through the roof for smoking..
Maybe I ought to try it then. I know I don't like the glycerin based I've purchased in the stores, but I could up the potency on my own. I'll have to do more research on it. One thing I don't like about glycerin is how "slippery" it is. It just slides right out of droppers.Quote:

The glycerin tinctures are worthless. They don't even say the % of CBD/THC. I make CBD rich alcohol tinctures and usually have good results. 50/50 at about 7% works best for me. I use the quick method of heating ground cannabis in alcohol. I doubt the age it in a closet technique works any better, just takes longer.
Glycerin has a very low amount of alcohol, so it takes forever to extract the CBD/THC.

Well, one of the main problems is that most of the tinctures you see out there are glycerin based.
I think that is because hippies hate alcohol or something?
The fact of the matter is that if you cant handle the taste of some alcohol, you are a pussy.
Glycerin tinctures suck. Period. For one, glycerin is a laxative. For two it is not a strong enough solvent to carry all the goodies.
Alcohol is THE ONLY effective solvent for tinctures. I make mine with 190 proof everclear, evap off about half of the alcohol on low heat, mix in some honey and seal them in 5ml glass ampules. I use about one pound of trim to 1.75 liters of everclear.
I often take one before bed, and when I wake up in the morning I am so stoned I can hardly walk to the bathroom to take a piss.
They are killer.
while it doesn't leave you stoned off your ass as the same amount cooked whole in a brownie, the pain relief qualities are remarkable. i did my last glycerin run in 260 degree oil bath. It's a hobby trying to get better extraction/conversion for me. I only use dry sift kief. The higher temp with the oil baths made a big difference, but I think there's much room to get better. I've done plenty of green dragon, and agree the extract is much greater/stonier but I find the pain relief and speed of relief to be better with glycerin. ymmv
I use an oz of kief to 1 cup glycerin, so I'm not sure that it would be cost effective to sell it. I use a teaspoon dose for spine issues and muscle spasms.
i,m doin a homemade tinc w/a z of good bud and 3/4 liter of sailor jerry spiced rum 92 proof w/some orange extract and a couple large spoonfulls of good honey.....brewing now for 2 weeks.....what do ya think ?

AND......i wanna put my magic flight launch box in my checked in bag(cleaned)....think they will zero in it......help me freaquent mmj fliers!!!!
Sounds like a tasty mix grobro. Not sure about flying though. I brought some weed to Alaska 2 years in a row in my underwear. I brought just under one ounce each time. It was pretty nerve racking but nice smoking in AK.
I am always disappointed in edibles from dispensaries. My edibles put you to sleep. I can't feel the edibles from the clubs even if I eat the 4x.
I've taken tinctures, edibles (lollipops, Cheeba Chews, brownies, cookies), and prerolled joints on trips. Never had a problem but Nothing's labels and all are in packaging that doesn't raise eyebrows when going through security. Remember TSA is looking in your bag for explosives. Make sure your tincture is in the proper sized bottles.
My buddy gave my wife a bottle of his tincture for Christmas. Now that is a gift that keeps on giving. 2 ml will rock you.
I prefer a pure glycerin extract too pretty much for the same reasons. Finding one on shelf is hard to find though.Quote:

Here it is, it's known as a propylene glycol based tincture and only takes a few hours to make. Mixing vegetable glycerine and ethanol (everclear) will give you propylene glycol, a known food additive. I also add distilled water and Loran propylene glycol based flavors (hard candy flavoring) to the hash. Good stuff for sure as this tincture is tasty and potent.
I like to use the bubble bags to make hash out of the MJ, making sure to press all the water out. I find it's easier to measure how much is going into the tincture. I have also found that one quarter of some good stuff is about 1 gram of hash when ran through the bags. I use 2parts glycerine to 1part distilled water to 1part everclear as the base.
If not able to use bags, then convert the bud to hash using the green dragon method, again using the 1 quarter ounce to 1gram of hash conversion, not as accurate as bubble bags but not too far off. One plus is you won't have to mix it as much to break down the trichs by using the green dragon method of extraction. Boil off as much of the everclear needed to get the right mixture.
For example, if I use one gram of hash, it gives me two one ounce bottles of tincture, just multiply using the formula, if you have more bud or hash to make tincture with. So for one gram of hash I break it down in 2 ounces of everclear then boil off 1-1/2 ounces in a hot water bath, then mix with 1/2 ounce of distilled water and 1 ounce of vegetable glycerine for a total of 2 fluid ounces.
I like that I can make it in small amounts if necessary. I have seen others use one gram of hash for a one ounce bottle of tincture but prefer two bottles tincture with half a gram each instead.
I start by putting the hash in the oven at 300*F for ten minutes to decarboxylate and then add it to two ounces of the ever clear to break it down. I shake it in a canning jar with a wire whisk ball inside to help break down the hash, which usually takes a few hours of good shaking.
I then reduce the everclear by boiling most of it off in a hot water bath (use much caution, research it if you're not familiar with this, it's easy just be safe and again, research) to one half ounce and add one half ounce of distilled water and one ounce of vegetable glycerine. I then shake it well and add it to my little dropper bottles. I also started adding the Loran flavorings, good stuff, I like the pomegranite and watermelon. I add about 4 drops of flavoring to 1 ounce bottle of tincture.
Excellent to use sublingually and the flavorings make a huge difference. My wife uses it for migrains, usually one half of a dropper is good for her, 15ml I believe.
Thanks for filling in the details. This looks like some good specific information. It also sounds like you are able to make some decent strength product. While my alchohol based tincture will get you stoned with just one or two ml your glycerine based product that uses just 15 ml sounds reasonably strong.
I also make bubble hash. The last time I tried coating some killer buds with the hash while it was still wet. The results were excellent. When the hash dried on the buds it held firmly and made for some really good hash joints when cut and rolled like regular buds. It is way easier then trying to add hash to a joint.:smokin:
I make my own tincture, and that seems to be why mine works and the kind you get at dispensaries doesn't.
Whoever said that it's not an efficient way to use weed is absolutely correct. Vaping is the most efficient. I am fortunate to usually have ample material to make tincture correctly.
Lots of people use trimmings for their tincture, whereas I use only buds. I measure everything carefully and make it the same way (same strain of bud, too) every time. I also let it evaporate at room-air until it is half the volume that I made it - sometimes a 1/4 or the original, if I have time. That gets rid of a good deal of the alcohol. Then, I measure it and put it in my coffee and have some toast with butter at the same time. An hour later, I am much happier, more productive, move better and am pain free! That'll last 4-6 hours. Seems to me that tinctures may be a bit less impairing in the thinking department, too.
The reason I like the tincture is because I get a consistent, predictable product, that has a longer shelf-life than buds stored in a glass jar. If you keep it right, you can probably use tincture for like 5 years. (Think about it- when was the last time you worried about how old the gin in the liquor cabinet was - never - it really never goes "bad" - gets weaker, but most folks would still use it)
I think tinctures are getting a bad name, because people aren't making them right or concentrated enough. They travel a lot better than weed and are easier to keep in "plain sight".
I am sorry about the typo, the one is supposed to be a . (period) lol, as each dropper is approximately one ml and she takes one half a dropper. So it should read my wife takes .5ml and not 15ml.:thumbsup:Quote:

Thanks for clarifying the dose of your tincture required. At .5 ml that does sound like a good product. I believe that .5 ml of the alcohol tincture I have would get most people stoned. If you get stoned on any of the medibles you buy at the clubs then .5 ml would work for you.
I agree too about the body versus head high of tinctures. You get the body feeling without all the head high. However I am usually smoking joints when I take the tincture so it is hard to separate the effects of the two different methods of ingestion.
