Question Over Roots? LED Lights and what not!
Heh
I am growing about 150 autoflowering plants, all various varietes under a combination of led and sodium. they are all potted up in 7" pots at the moment and i really didnt want to disturb their progress but wanted to give the roots a run off. I was going to put all the pots on bread trays elevated from the floor and let the runs run down maybe into a medium like perlite etc? will the roots run down and out or will they just continue to root bound. They are only fifteen days old and looking like little monstors. Pictures and grow log soon to be up.
Thanks

Aloha:)
Might I ask what kind of LEDs?
Wee 'zard
Question Over Roots? LED Lights and what not!
My guess is that they will do both - continue to develop in the pot until root bound while at the same time growing into the secondary medium on the bread trays. I guess the question is, if they are getting adequate nutes and water from the bread trays, will it be enough offset them being bound up in the pots? Perhaps.
Post some pics, yo. I want to see what that looks like.

"About" 150 plants? You don't know...?
LED's and HPS? How do you keep the LED's out of the HID's way? Why the combination? If you've got the HPS, LED's are unnecessary and are in the way.
Rootbound and nutrition will be a problem. (one of many if inexperienced)
Is this your first grow, and which dispensary are you filling?
If this is your first grow...good luck. Hopefully your successes will outweigh your failures. If this isn't a dispensary grow and you are nothing but a scumbag dealer, there are other sites that cater to your kind. If this is for personal...going this big presents a variety of problems avoidable through downsizing and experience.

If this is a personal grow, you only need 1/20th that number of plants so there should be no confusion about that. Start small - say 1/10th your current estimate. Get some experience. Ramp up if that is your gig. Unless there are external pressures to start big that have not been shared here... I too would like to hear that this is a dispensary grow rather than something else.

Ok then to try and answer some of the questions and put a bit of background to it.
Initially the lowryders were all under total LED Light, a total of about 2000watt then moved to HPS after about a month. Why? I am growing 55 Armageddon clones at the moment, same principal as above and the bud sites and growth, resin, and thc developing on them a month off is amazing and stomps all over any HPS grow I have seen. So i adopted the same approach for my lowriders.
OK, yes 150 was far too many. Have lost 12 NYC diesals ryders all turning to Hermies, and I have eleven Pakistan Kush Ryders that are nearly three feet tall and not flowering. (my 12-12 room is full with the 55 armageddon) I have grown every variation of autoflowering plant there is and so far they all look incredible. Have had to do a lot of tieing and training as they have ahabit of growing like bushes, the AK-48 are looking immense and not so low as thats not in their genetics, the posion dwarfs look incredible and the smurfberry is a totally unique looking plant.
I have three other pure LED closet style rooms in my house with about twenty lowrdiers in each.
I have repotted everything out into tomato pots but still not big enough and within a week of repotting roots were showing and growing out of the pots. With only four weeks left I am going down the root of they will have to be fine as repotting is getting seriously expensive and stressful to the plants.
I will have pictures of all and everything soon. This is my first grow and I have learned so much but in all fairness every single last one of my plants looks very very healthy, more love than experience but certainly not so much look.

Oh and as for LED lights in my 12-12 rooms. I have four UFOs and two rectangular 120watt. Mounted to wheel based pieces of woods, used as spotlamps, moved around every other day, concentrating light at canapy level to encourage more growth and resin production on the so-called popcorn buds. It seems to be working as all of my plants branches are turning into lollipops from bottom to top. I even have buds practically growing on the soil, healthy ones at that. What I can visibly see is tighter, more resiny and more growth through using LED in the veg stage and using as supplementary lighting in the 12-12 stage. My next grow will purely be LED and the decent new ones with 6w diodies rather than the 2w diodies i am using at present. I also know to add more infra red light and wihite light into the equation although currently very happy with my electricyt bill as a consequence of LEDS

Your comments about LED for veg are interesting. I am planning on using LED for my flower room but was thinking that fluros for the clones and mothers would be sufficient. Well I know it would be sufficient but now you have me rethinking...
Tell us about your 6w panels. What is the color range, watts, size, number of diodes, and cost? Are they single diodes or refracting? Do they have lenses? What is the light distribution angle?
More and more LED growers are showing up here. The more info the better. Looking forward to some pics! Incidentally, there are other LED growers here who have made the same observations about quality.

LED Grow Lights : Buy LED Grow Lights, Procyon 100
I am going on this site and these products as the base for my next grow. Just smoking some armageddon grown 70& led and then finished with both for the last 4 weeks. Absolutely incredible. There is a lot of crap about LEDS and the marketing is very clever, until you start using them and watching do you notice that. yeah one 90watt LEd will fuck all over a 400HPs, for one or two plants etc, but there are a million and one variables that are not discussed or mentioned. i realised within four weeks that i needed to oompth my power, the cheapest and most reliable form was HPS. As i say next one i will be going for proper stuff, industry standard. Holland are already using a lot of these and variants of to grow standard crops. The EU Commission states that by i think 2014 maybe 2016 none of us can use incandescent bulbs any more because of carbon obligations. LED lights and PLASMA lights have to be the future as HPS are no longer it. The sooner people accept that fact the quicker progress and evolution will be in a field that we as growers should all be fascianted with not ignorant over.

Question Over Roots? LED Lights and what not!
I have seem many leds used to grow and i personaly have 2 real led grow lights.I have not yet flowered with these but what i do know is plants durring veg look great.Almost look like plastic the color is so deep!!But been waiting to see plant in its final stage but i only see itty bitty buds. You half to grow 150 plants just to get a pound it seems.I am not bagging on these lights but worried about blooming with them do you have any pics of the last few weeks of your grow of something that is MATURE and worth wile to brag over...By the way 150 plants seems a little over the limit?Kinda funny seems like youd be in the whole in elecricity as where all us here in humboldt stick a few in the ground and come back and get a few pounds off a weed left in the woods.
Question Over Roots? LED Lights and what not!
there is more than enough evidence around to say that LEd and other lighting methods work if you use your head and watch your plants. Its the idiots that are unsuccessful and those that believe everything written on the manafacturers website, yet obvously none of them can tie their products in with cannabis as they are legit companies.
Spend your time reading the masses of literature that is on the internet and you will see you are wrong. Im getting a little tired of this negativity attached to other lighting methods. I just cant understand why anbody would not want to evolve and progress their operation growing better bud for less money?
Question Over Roots? LED Lights and what not!
I've heard that Humboldt line more than a few times on these boards. That's wonderful if you live in Humboldt. In that case just stick to the method that works for you. Those of us with more significant limitations are looking for other solutions. I don't live in Humboldt so the pound growing in the forest isn't an option. I don't like the idea of a HID burning in my basement with my family asleep above or me away from the house. No thanks. I also have venting limitations that would present real problems running an HID. I'm not growing pounds for whatever use you put that to. I just need a few ounces per grow for personal use. If yield is off by a few grams do I care? No. If it takes a week or two longer do I care? No. Does it provide for me needs - that I care about.
Seems that many here tear down LEDs as though it is a challenge to their manhood. Get a life. If it's not for you so what? Walk away. Nothing to see here.

Lot's of people are using LED's now....it's been proven many times that they work! Check out some grow logs on this forum...you have quite a few to choose from! And once you see how great they can work for veg and flower, also being energy efficient and produce no heat....you'll be wanting to make the switch too. I am only 2 weeks into flowering on my first round of LED's and so far I am really impressed! I was working with a 600w hps before and there is a huge difference with bud development. Also, I am able to leave my house overnight without stressing out that I'm going to blow a fuse or that my a/c would shut off and my temps would go through the roof. Now (without an a/c) my grow space stays between 76-81! And my energy bill is about $50-$60 cheaper every month!!!
Oh, and if you want actual bud, you would never "just pop some seeds in the ground and come back and get a few lbs". I've grown outdoor, maybe not in "humbolt" but in northern California. If it was that easy EVERYONE would be growing outdoor plants! You gotta worry about soil, watering, pests, theives....
yes, pot is a weed that will grow just about anywhere....but if you want good smoke, you have put the time and effort in! Nobody wants seedy schwag....
