i recently built myself an ez clone box. everything went fine up until day 11 or 12 when they all wilted. they are just starting to form roots and still alive but just barely. my water temp is 68-72 and so is the air in the room. i'm also seeing what i believe to be powder mildew. i'm definately relying on my clones to succeed. some one please help.
I don't know about the mold, however the water in the cloner should be closer to 76f-78f. Ph is alot of people have good results with anything between 5.5 and 6.3. Its wierd that they wilted after 11 days? You outside temps is fine. If something was wrong with the cloner I would assume it would've wilted before that. Did the pumps shut off at all? pumps never shut off at all. i was under the impression the pump should take care of the water temp as long as the room was controlled.
Unless there is some type of thermostat on the pump then no. Pumps such as the one used in the EZ cloner some times cause the water to raise over 80f. This could be the downfall to them after showing signs of roots. Maybe they got cooked? Again I am no pro so hopefully someone else can chime in. But my bubbler clone is on the money and for the most part its zero maintenance. The water is NOT the same as whatever the room temp is so if thats how you have been determining the temp:(then you should grab yourself the thermometer and get it in that water. :thumbsup: Good luck
i had them about 6 feet from a 600hps. i think that was a big part of my issues. they are now 5 feet from a 400mh. i hope this helps a bunch. i'm thinking they just used up their stored energy before they had a chance to root.like i said before, their not dead yet, just wilted. they now have a few roots but i'm not sure if they'll recover.
I think you have solved the problem by your last post. Get them out from under the HPS lighting now!!! Your are cooking your clones. Clones only need a 23watt cfl or t8 floroes placed a couple of feet above your plants to develope roots. There is no reason to use HPS at this stage.

what is in the tank,are u using a cloneing starter solution like clonex? not the gel but the transition solution? 5 ft away from a 600 is fine,thats not whats causing your wilting.when u checked your water temp was it after your water pump has been on for some time? that pump if run 24/0 will heat up the water by 10 deg.....
the pump is on and has been for a couple week without stopping. as for my water im using a tablespoon per gallon of water of dyna-gro k-l-n rooting concentrate with b-1.
has the temp been checked of the water??
i need to go to the store and get a themometer i can submerse in water. all mine are battery power:(
so my water temperature is at 72. i expect that's where it has been since the only change i made was my light.
I have a cloner that I made as well. I found that intense light will make them wilt. I keep my dome covered and in the same veg room with my other plants. The aquarium heater submerged in the res. keeps the temp. like it should be. I clean and refill my res. once a week. It has a dark base and no light penetration as algae would grow without being that way. The mildew you are finding is due to not enough air circulation. Drill a couple of 1/2 inch holes in the top.Be sure and keep the humidity high!! I use KLN rooting hormone in the res. It's a liquid you add to the water and not the stem. Hope some of this helps.With a cloner that is homemade,there are some little tweaking that should be done.You only find problems when it is in operation. Then work the bugs out from what has happenened.:thumbsup:

right on. it has definately been a challenge to get those kinks out. i feel like i'm getting pretty close though. i've got a fresh set of ten in there now so we'll see what comes up for me next.
Lemme ask ya this.. What size are the airstones and how many do you have? Is your air pump variable? How many outlets?Quote:

i'm not using any air stones. i felt like the misters added enough air to the water. maybe i'm wrong with my assumption? i have 10 ez clone misters backed by a 500 gph pump. it's not variable. i'm not sure what that means exactly but i'm pretty sure the pumps nothing special. i got it at my hydro store if that helps. i'm going to pick up a tank heater tonight. anything special i should look for?
You have a water pump and not an air pump..Variable is: that you can control the amount of air you pump through the airstones. You can see the speed of the bubbles as you turn the rate of air up or down. That's not Webster's def....lol!
i took 10 new cuttings a week ago and they still look like they did when i took them. so far so good. i managed to get the temp of my water up to 75.
Your sure to see a difference in the performance of your cloner,for sure. Temp and humidity are key factors in great results!

I use ez cloner under t5s ho. Ever heard of superthrive?? Drop a gallon, use it throughout everything I have 100% success on clones. Its 8 bucks for a tiny bottle that will last years
that seems really warm water for a ez cloner. with my ez-clone recommended temps would be 68-72 degrees. when my ezclone water temp gt 75-78 i would get poor root growth comparing to other times when i could get the temp stable to 72.Quote:

not sure that water temp is that big of a problem....I can't keep my temp below 85 f. I cut my clones and drop them...No problems. I imagine I get between 95-100% success with my babies. I also use clonex.
keep water temp under 78 degrees, never shut off pump, i use humic tea, and g-rex from cutting edge solutions also keep air circulating on them. I also spray with a lite clonex feeding solution and hum tea. i just got done clonging 30 in my ez clone and 29 out of 30 were perfect. i found that cutting the end of the stem in half and scraping the side of the bottom of the stem worked best. got heavy roots in 7 days. good luck
Put new cuttings in ez-cloner yesterday. Checked on them this morning only to find that half of them were wilted and down for the count. I thought "wtf". Lifted the cover and the pump/manifold had leaned over to one side only watering one half of the cuttings. I fixed the problem and am now praying to rudy that they all make it. I hate it when 'dumb shit' stuff happens. aarrgghh

one more thing, for temp problems I change the water every few days minimum. Works fine for me. Gil
