Nute Def? Heat Stress? Please Help! ton of pics
Hi all,
Well I've done the majority of my research here for my first grow and would like to thank all that contribute!
I started with 8 hybrids (white widow, and pure power plant) and 1 indica (blue hash) and they've done extremely well but I'm noticing what looks like some sort of deficiency maybe...
They are 85 days from seed and have been flowering for 33 days now.
Now for their environment:
homemade 3' x 4' area covered with panda film,
fox forest ocean farms soil,
3 gallon grow bags,
1k hps light at about 24 inches from canopy,
co2-1500ppm,
plenty of ventilation,
the canopy level temp is a constant 80f,
humidity is constant 45-50%,
im using nearly all of advanced nutrients 'boosters' along with their 3 part nutrient base, and for watering I am alternating between plain water, and nuted water (~1000ppm @6.3-6.5 ph)
I was thinking originally that it was prolly a Mg deficiency so I added a light dose of calmag for my last watering and its still getting worse... or so it appears.
If anyone can help me nail this problem down it would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks guys
The first 2 pics were from 5 days ago, and the last 2 are from today.

Looks like nutrient burn my friend. Flush...flush...flush. Then back to the nutes.

I agree with Marty....nute burn! No worries....you can fix it!

awesome, i hope this nails it down. with nute burn do I have to flush or can I just use plain water for my next few waterings? if i do flush is 3x the pot size absolutely necessary? cuz that would be 3gallonpots * 3 = 9gallons * 10pots = 90 gallons.... thats a ****load.
can anyone else help to confirm or deny its really nute burn? i think that could be right though because I was thinking it was Mg so instead of giving only water last watering I gave a light dose of Mg along with a light dose of standard nutes... and 3 days later theyre lookin worse. Hopefully its just nute burn and I can get this straight within the next week or so.
Again thanks for the fast response and for the help

i'd say its nute burn too,you say you alternate water and nute/water,how often do you water?i water every other day, every 3rd water has nutes!

hi busybee, ive only been watering every 4-5 days so they get nutes every 8-10 days which i guess should be ok? or should i give them less water more often? i hope nute burn is my only problem, imma give them only water for my next 2-3 waterings and cross my fingers... this sux it's my first hitch since seed and its at a crucial time. oh well its a learning process lets just hope i find my problem, if after my next 2 waterings without nutes they arent lookin better, i'll prolly flush em thoroughly but hopefully they just got too many nutes... im prayin to the bud-goddess. thanks busybee

I'm on my first grow as well. I also nute burned once, but just before flower.
I actually DID flush thoroughly with RO. However then I was deficient. I couldn't save any of the already damaged leaves either. However it did recover once I got the soil nutes right again.
Since then I nute every third watering. Then plain PH set, the other two. No issues since!
Good luck

i say nute burn.to help correct the guessing game you need a ph,ppm meter to test.

I disagree with everyone else.
In your pictures there are no signs of nute burn. This is not nute burn. Nute burn affects all of the major leaves, not just the leaves in direct exposure to the light. Move your lights up and increase your circulation! You have light burn, period. This can be compounded by under-watering. Check your soil and water only when the pot is light in weight. If the soil sticks to your finger, it's wet. If not, water until 20% of the total water drains out of the bottom of the pot and check every 2-3 days.

I have a ph pen and a tds pen... so nothings guess work and as far as light stress, that makes the more sense than nute burn because nute burn should be worse away from the light because theyre not absorbing as much as the plants directly below the light. i think a deficiency or lockout could be the problem since the plants directly below the light are the ones absorbing the most nutes and so maybe thats why its showing the worst there... i really wish i could get this dialed in but according to the three forums that ive asked for help on, i have heat stress/light stress, nute burn, lockout, phosphorus def, Mg def, so who knows...
for the sake of massive buds are there more than 2 expert growers out there that can agree on my problem/s?
Maybe this will help, I hope :)
How long has this problem been going on? ~10 days
What STRAIN are you growing? white widow/pure power plant/blue hash
What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?) seed
What is the age of your plants? 85 days
How long have they been in the soil mixture they are in now? 65 days
How Tall are the plants? ~4 feet
What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in? flowering
What Technique are you using? (SOG, SCROG etc) SOG
What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot) 3 gallon pots, 1 plant per pot
What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using?(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?) fox forest ocean farms 4 parts, to 1 part perlite
What Nutrient's are you using? advanced nutrients 3 part + their ferts
How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? my input is less than 1000ppm *Knowing the brand is very helpful*
How often are you feeding? once every 7-10 days
If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients? 1st week of flowering
What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect) i mix all my ferts and then add the grow micro bloom at 1-1-1 until ppm is ~1000
What is the TDS/EC/PPM of your nutrients used? ~1000
What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"? 1100-1700 last watering

What is the distance to the canopy? 18-20 inches
What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity) 40-50%
What is the canopy temperature? 80
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range) 80/70
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) closed environment but a large box fan is constantly blowing across the canopy
Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ? again closed env so its kept at temps by AC
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? oscillating under the canopy and box fan directly over the canopy sorta angled towards the light
Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist? moist and i let the pot get light before next watering
Is your water HARD or SOFT? pretty soft ~60-70 ppm
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water? tap bubbled for at least 24 hrs
Are you using water from a water softener? nope
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched? nope
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when? nope
Are plant's infected with pest's? nope
that should do it, hopefully the above questions help out.

Ok, that helps a bit. I want you to check out the pics on my recent post. Click them again after they load for the full size...THIS is nute burn, and Iā??ve never seen it like thisā?¦
http://boards.cannabis.com/plant-pro...-pleasure.html
You MAY have nute burn that is just now showing up, and in those areas because the nutrients exchange fastest under the light where photosynthesis takes place, but, your pics look like my plants did when the canopy was 80-90 degrees during light time and I didnā??t water enough.

well they do look very similar, if no one else changes my mind, imma go with a 1-1 ratio water-potsize, and do a semi-flush so thats gonna be 3 gallons of water per pot, ewwww 30 gallons of water, thats gonna be fun lol, but better than losing yield. if anyone has a solution besides flushing let me know and save me a lot of time and effort. thanks bobo

and plus,if it was light burn, the buds would have been burnt also, not just the leaves!

I beg to differ sir. If it was light issues we would be seeing the buds and the leaves surrounding the buds with the majority of the damage, since they are closer to the lights than the leaves (in most cases). In most cases I would agree with you...but, the pictures say a completely different story.
Nutrient application is not being done with every feeding either. Sporadic usage of nutrients, feeding inconsistencies, etc....all lead to nute burn because it is being hammered with nutes once...the plants never truly get the benefits...
I can understand how you feel this would be lights (but...it is the lights burning the leaves due to nutrient overload).

i was going to say if it was'nt nute burn it was prob heat not light burn lmao"light burn"roflmao.but you said they were 24inches from tops of plants which is plenty of room unless you don't have any fans in the room or venting out of the room.

-----that sounds like the best advice i've heard so far, thanks marty. i believe my semi flush should help out. after i flush, should i wait until next watering to add nutes/ferts or should i add a mild solution to prevent deficiencies?

oh yeh its at 18-20 inches and its air cooled, along with a ton of ventilation across the canopy, i've lowered my canopy temps to 77 and it controlled so i was really thinking heat stress was silly, i thought perhaps too much light but that didnt sound right either. i really hope my semi flush helps out, ive got my fingers crossed. thanks guys

Alrighty guys, today I watered and hopefully this will give us an idea of whats goin on.
My input water was a mild solution of advanced nutrients ferts and my input TDS measured at 500 ppm and my input ph was 6.6. My runoff measured in at 1700+ and ph of 6.4-6.5... Is it safe to assume that I've got nute burn? and can nute burn be responsible for deficiencies? After checkin my runoff and seeing it that high I semi flushed each 3 gallon pot with a gallon of water only with h202 added to help prevent oxygen deprevation. After semi-flushing my runoff's ph still measured at about 6.5 but my ppm was dropped to 900-1100 depending on which pot. I feel like I'm on the track to recovery but I would like to hear what the experts have to say given the new information? and do you guys think I should begin adding nute/ferts again next watering or do another straight watering?
Thanks guys for all your input and my ladies appreciate it too!

It's called nutrient lockout. So, yes over nuting can cause lockout leading to deficiencies!

Flushing is a touchy subject for most also...I would flush for 24 hours if something like this was to come up. But, that's me with my system.
I think you would be fine with your "semi-flush"
Post a grow log my friend....and welcome.

Same thing happened to me with my mother, she was showing the same signs and i believe it could be nute burn as well as temp stress.
Problem got solved by flushing her and pruning all of the dead parts on the leaves. Took a while to recover, but I'm sure your girls will be fine.
O ya and nice grow...

Looks like Nute burn; I had a similar problem myself. I got nute burn then PH dropped and I got Nute Lockout. I flushed with clean PH adjusted water for 3-4 days. I then added nutes back in slowly and she started to get back in the groove of things. With nutes, less is more!!! Find your plants tolerance and stay close.
Look at new growth; the burnt leaves are burnt and wont get better. if the new leaves are not affected after the flush, you know whats the problems was.
cheers,
MJ
